The lipizzaner horses are born jet black and as they age they turn snow white. They have a beautiful silky shine to the fur. They are truly exceptional horses.
It is my dream since a child to visit the spanish riding shcool of viena, since my dad went there when I was around 10 and bought me a string of postcards with pictures of the school and horses. I am now 54, and I hope to be able to fulfil my dream this year, xx

I’m taking my first classical equitation class on Monday from a trainer in Georgia who spent time here and goes here every year after spending like 3 years learning this first year they all have to spend that year purely on a lungline to learn a good seat
These horses are being taken care of better than most humans are taken care of. Also the fact they´re all white means they´re not young horses, these horses get the time to grow and not forced into difficult moves at a young age. I´ve been in the stables and visited a training and I was amazed how carefully they handle these horses. They´re worth a fortune.

Though, these horses are not 'forced' to do anything, ever, but their natural physical abilities are carefully developed over time - as you know, but to make it even more clear to those who do not know or understand that all these movements are natural to the horse. The horses that lack the correct build or strength to perform the 'airs above the ground' - the most difficult movements - are not brought to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

My horse at 6 performed a cabriole. I was watching out my window. My jaw literally dropped. I was astonished. Never expected to see that. He isn't broken. I have seen foals naturally perform,but not adults.
I love the fact that they remain with the mothers until they go out in a herd and are only brought into school at 3 .they had time to learn develop and mature in theyre natural time and setting.
The lipizzaners stay in Vienna only during the performance season. They spend all summer on a farm in Styria where they can relax and enjoy the outdoors.

It's considered good luck to have a dark horse with the white (actually grey) horses. Sometimes a black or bay foal will stay that color. Yes, it is tradition. (Jan Griffiths).

The lippizaner is a breed off an andulusian horse and an arabian horse, Busted is one, but unfortunalty it is not a stallion, he has a good life now and is loved by it's owner Lotte van Houtert and the rest of the family, thanks for showing and kind regards .

How I hate that it is always said that Lipica is a village near Triest or something. Lipica is in Slovenija and has nothing to do with Italy. Lipizzaners are horses bred with mixing Slovenian draught mares with exceptionally hard hooves and Spanish and other stallions. Lipizzaner is a Slovenian breed.

It’s changed hands several times over the centuries and there are many Slovenians in the city and many Italians go to Slovenia for various reasons .My mom was Italian (from Calabria) and I grew up bilingual and have spent a lot of time in Italy but mostly from Naples on south. The Spanish riding school I wonderful but Italians have also contributed a lot to the history of the equestrian arts (Caprilli’s forward seat for example). You can call it Trst. I will call it Trieste and we can still be friends I hope. I’ve never been in the area but I hope it’s not a different version of the Gaza Strip. Have a great day. P.S. I’ve never heard any Italians claim that Lipizzaners were an Italian creation. There’s a very interesting book called “The Perfect Horse” which you might find interesting if you enjoy history. From what I could divine from a map it’s quite possible that the city has expanded and has a foot in each country and each one has its own moniker for it.
