I'm from Big Spring...graduated HS in 1984. I moved away in '87 and visited last time in '94. So much has changed and so much remains the same. Thanks for the trip.
I've always liked this town. I first noticed it in Midnight Cowboy (1969 Movie) years ago. Been a few times. I'm considering retiring and moving here. Thanks for the video.
The Settles Hotel is Big Spring and Big Spring is the Settles Hotel. Thankfully they saved it and restored it. Big Spring wouldn't be itself without it.
Speaking of _Midnight Cowboy_ - the exterior shots of the opening scene (where *Big Spring Motel* used to be) was I think on the left right at the start of this video.
I lived in big springfor many years. Raised a family there. Wish there was some narrative. Driving by too fast for me to orientate and find places i remember.
@@DeceleratedTravel am planning on moving here in 2 yrs am looking forward to enjoying my soon to be new home town . Florida sucks...especially SOUTH FLORIDA...I won't be sad to leave when I do...Texas here I come...😻💋❣💋❣💖
I was born in Big spring but move to Germany in 64' so I only remember what my parents told me about where I was born in the webb Air Force Base hospital, I was only there a year but I remember being told of a tornado when I was just a baby in Big spring
@Decelerated Travel next time you are in Odessa Texas. If y'all would like to see something neat. 16 miles west of town is a community called Penwell Texas. If you exit off at Exit 101 on I-20, travel down the service road a bit to FM1601. Make a left and head south a few miles. There is a Dragstrip on the left hand side of FM 1601 Called Caprock Motorplex/Penwell Knights Raceway. That track has been around since 1966 and still going today. Odessa Texas is my hometown and I've spent alot of time at that place on the weekends when I went to Permian High School in the late 90'a when it was known as West Texas Raceway Park. I've raced out there nearly every weekend back then when I was off from work.
I had my vacation in July and Aug 2021. I visited Big Spring since I knew one of my favorite movies was filmed there. Sad to say that None of the locals I chatted with had heard of Midnight Cowboy!!! Made me feel so old! Stayed at Hotel Settles ... what a beautiful hotel and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Big Spring
@@DeceleratedTravel Yes I would certainly recommend Hotel Settles. It was beautiful inside the lobby area and my room was so nice. Decorated beautifully as well ...very bright and clean. I did have a nice stay in Big Spring ... was sad to see all the places from Midnight Cowboy gone.
Where I live such a beautiful place!

@@DeceleratedTravel yes so much there was a tornado 🌪 where my school is

Where is that Joe Buck? (opening scene from 1969 film "Midnight Cowboy" was filmed on streets of Big Spring)
I totally forgot about that!

When the viedeo started if he would kept going up 3rd street anther 3 miles is where the start of the movie was when he’s walking into town.

17:59 Six Points, mi barrio, beautiful Northside.
16 like nice sharing 👏
Thank you!
You skipped all the nice places! Of course, that would have made the video 30-40 seconds longer.
My mom owns train car btw
I think hotel settles is haunted there have been rumors it was
Yeah my cousin used to work there when it reopened
20:36 El Yoyo's home for sale on the right.
There is state hospital we working there put roofing
How nice! Ten cuidado!
Salt tap water my history.....!
Yep it looked milky most of the time
It look scary
This place looks extremely boring. Looks like an abandoned town from a western movie.
It was the filming location for the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy.
It is extremely boring. The park has ripped up tires instead of wood chips the tires makes it smell gross
Looks depressing
It is
There isnt much to do here
Big Spring and that portion of West Texas is butt ugly. It kind of defies logic. 🤪
