Its because very few companies can license and merchandise mechs that look like Gundam in the first place, so most have to go out of their way to make them look different. There have literally been massive lawsuits about it. But I'll tell you what. You go ahead and design your own gundam, add all the stupid little details from pacific rim and titanfall you want, 3d model it, post it, then we'll judge and critique it for you. Have fun.
First of all, its classic. Second of all, this is fan made. And then there is a why question. the design principle for most gundam is a elegance, its why whte/blue is the most prominent colors. Adding too much shit will make it more bulky. Lore wise it makes no sense for more details, because detail = exposed component, unlike titan fall with it's shield generators, gundams require armor to be placed everywhere thus uniformity.
Never saw a GM could stand a minute dogfight with a Gundam before (in UC, Gundam was supposedly an ace pilot unit unless unusual things happened) Pros: excellent shadow effects, perfect viewing angle, nice pre-combat opening. Cons: mainly, lore problems... that original Gundam model could be reshaped better, when Salamis, Musai & White Base suddenly arrived on combat space like Star Wars Hyperspace warp is... WTF. Melee combat is awesome but DUH it's too emphasized.
Really nice, makes me think a Fanfic on what would happen if amuro or char found the Laplace box

for space combat you wouldn't like to have small pieces of debris and trash to get stuck in your joints, if it's clean en sealed, it's better
