- The 50s is when science fiction hit the big screen in a big way. It paved the way for some great stuff. This mini series will cover some of the most notable films to hit the screen in the 50s. This is classic science fiction at it's best. Yes, there were sci-fi in the 40s, and we may cover that in the future but they are all (mostly) unknown or forgotten. In part 1 we cover;

Great video. I guess the part 2 will show "Earth vs The Flying Saucers" 1956, "When Worlds Collide" 1951, "The War of the Worlds" 1953 and of course the two masterpieces which are "The Day The Earth Stood Still "1951 and" Forbidden Planet "1956. To be honest, the remake of" The War of the Worlds "directed by Spielberg in 2005 was brilliant and renewed the original film which has aged less well. But the remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Still" directed by Scott Derrickson in 2008 has suffered compared to the original. That's why I hope the movie "Forbidden Planet" never gets a remake. This film was and still is what a great science fiction film should be.

I’ve watch everything as a repeat on tv in the 70’s-80’s, except for (plan?) 9 haven’t watched it yet.
You have to watch Plan 9 with a grain of salt. It's ok but the vampires and gools were kind of goofy, though it was made in the 50s so I get it!
This film was X rated (adults only) and regarded a a horror film when I was 13 years old in 1958 Australia.
I've been looking for this classic sifi but cant remember the title, space ship gets caught in a time warp or something like that, crash on a planet where there is 2 populations one above ground and one below, the above ground are Cyclops and below are normal, the space travelers have to create weapons such as a bazooka to battle the Cyclops. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
That would be Battle Beneath the Earth, released in 67 I believe.
