It's great to see a dedicated XC race tire in a 2.4" width. 2.2" just isn't enough for a lot of tracks.

The only problem with 2,4" tires that they not or barely fit in older hardtail frames. But 2,25" at back and 2,4" at front is a strong combo.

Running the Mezcal/Peyote 2.4” on the Front/Rear of my Specialized Chisel HT. Been running it through Scottish ‘summer’ on mostly gravel/light xc rides.
Absolutely love the combo. Impressive amounts of grip while rolling like greased lightning. I’m surprised at how decent the grip is in the wet and they only get out of sorts in the mud. I agree on your comments about how lively they feel, however I think the robustness works well for me (I’m heavy at 115kg). I run them full speed into sharp granite and I’ve had not a whisper of a puncture.
Going to roll with them until autumn/winter properly sets in up here then the Barzo/Mezcal is going back on. I’m shocked at the apparent lack of wear after several hundred miles on them!

I tried a Barzo/Mezcal 2.35" front/rear combo of my Chisel after seeing so very many endurance, bikepacking racers use them. They need fast, reliable and light tyres and I have to say, I'm very impressed and can definitely see why they get used so much by such folk. A huge difference is that I now don't hate riding an MTB on long tarmac sections and despite that, they are also very fast and grippy on the rough stuff too.
Most boring and drama free tyres I've ever used and that is a very good thing. They just seem to work very well, even in our soggy winters and on our rocky trails. Not noticed any of the potential issues you mentioned, but I may be running a few PSI higher than yourself. 20-22psi

I guess i discovered I am more of an XC guy rather than a send-it trail guy. The ZFS-5 120 suspension is great at knowing how to behave both on the climbs and the descents. It was a long and costly journey to find the right bike for the terrain I ride, but the ZFS feels perfect. I was eying a Santa Cruz Blur, but the ZFS was on sale here for 35% off MSRP and seeing how the two bikes were very close, I went with the bargain. Aspens are cheaper and more readily available right now. The peyote as a rear tire works but definitely not as a front.
