I had this one on PSVR1 and never made it that far into it, but did have some fun with it. Was hoping there would at least be an upgrade path with a discounted price, especially if it didn't turn out to be much of an upgrade. Strange that they are charging previous owners full price for such a lackluster port.
I agree as a psvr1 owner no path to upgrade ensures I won't buy the game from them, so they loose out on $10 due to greed
The problem is these lazy efforts is what give psvr2 a bad name and further adds ammunition for the opposition fanboys to take jabs at. Even though we have a substantial amount of solid quality titles with RE4 coming soon these fanboys completely ignore the good and focus on the bad to underplay the PSVR2. Such a damn shame. What's even more surprising is Skydance overlooked this mess and they delivered some of the best VR games ever made (S&S Ch 1 & 2). Totally unexpected this slipped thru the cracks under Skydance's eyes
Stop worrying about what fanboys on the internet say Not worth our time. Just enjoy the games you like. There are bad games on every platform that has ever existed. Thanks to Bryan, we get a heads up in advance.
@3Dealer17 Perception =s reality (even false perception). Bad perception =s bad sales. If new people are not buying psvr2 headsets then the headset will fail (e.g. game developers will no longer develop for psvr2 etc.). Meta's marketing i.e. public perception i.e. Brand is in MUCH better shape than psvr2. This fact does not bode well for those of us who are psvr2 owners. And lazy games do not help - they reinforce the bad psvr2 perception.

I so wanted this to be EPIC ... I seriously don't need yet another hack job with awful controls that will destroy the fun. This made me really sad :(

@@3Dealer17 Exactly!! Atleast im Loving Arizona Sunshine2 allbeit expensive love i dont mind supporting one banger until Resi Evil4 VR comes out in a couple days. We all wanted Arashi patched to modern standards - but "oh well" it wasnt.. Dont worry, move on Off to the next REAL banger VR-title in a couple days. :)
p.s. "Arashi MOVEMENT patch needed", to bad we cant post that directly to Arashi's PSN store web page.. Arashi could have been... Now its "just a skip", that didnt try hard enough. Movement is soOo basic too. LoL ;)
We really need some AAA studios to take on some of these games and bring next level polish to its game designs. Take re village for example. Pushing forward and pressing x, makes your character mantle. Couldnt something like that be implemented in these games to have a proper stealth kill? Or even sneaking up behind an opponent and using a thrusting motion to trigger a sword through the back animation. Something like that could go far in these games.
Funny then re4 came out and they used the exact mechanics that I talked about. Some of these other studios need to catch up.
Arashi, The final cut and paste job.
I was super interested in the PSVR 1 version, having played Tenchu so much. The bugs and seemingly poor combat physics stopped me from getting it.
I figured, the new PSVR2 version was going to fix all of this and was anxiously waiting to see this version. I'm disappointed it didn't turn out to be the full fledge upgrade I was hoping for.
Thanks for the review. Time to take this one out of the wishlist :( let's hope they patch it so it improves at a later time.
Major ooof. I would still happily get this game, but not without a cheaper upgrade path for people who already own the PSVR1 version. Charging us 30 all over again implies that a lot of work went into upgrading this and that's obviously not the case.
When i reached out and started climbing a ladder even though my hands were like 6 inches from the ladder i felt sick at my stomach for buying this again ughh!! Thanks for the review the one time i take a chance and i get screwed at least i got it right on Arizona Sunshine 2 thankfully
Arizona 2 has it's own problems and isn't worth full price.
Two disappoints in one day... So many people thought December is gonna be insane... Yeah nope.
Arashi started showing concerning signs and Arizona Sunshine II was held in high regard but with a lot of skepticism mixed with hope.
Come talk to me if Vertigo 2 and/or RE4 somehow bomb. Those are the two biggest games that should be sure-fire massive hits and potential 10/10s this month.
At least we still got RE4, vertigo 2 and Help Wanted 2 which are games I fully trust in the developers that will be good

Thank you for the review! I already thought that the game would come out unfinished. Only rendered scenes and no in-game footage were shown. I would buy it for 14.99 at most.

I appreciate your honesty in your reviews man. Hopefully once we're past year 1, these low effort ports and releases stop happening. I'm tired of disappointing release after disappointing release. I'm never pre ordering any psvr2 game.
Damn that's a shame. I held off on the PSVR 1 version because I felt like it'd be a prime game for a PSVR 2 upgrade, with many of its faults seeming like they could be addressed with next-gen hardware (especially the collision detection). I'm not sure if Skydance had an active roll in development or if they were just a publisher, but regardless, this is a bad look overall for both them and Endeavor 1. I like people who work at both companies so this is sort of heartbreaking.
Feels like this might've been more acceptable as a free upgrade, but with zero upgrade path or discount, it has to be judged as a full new game, and the last gen baggage seems really unacceptable at this point.
Good job with the review, though I'm sure you wish you could be the bearer of better news.
Wow. To say that I'm disappointed would be a massive understatement. I enjoyed this game a lot more than most, I think, on PSVR1. Yes, the melee combat was never exactly great, but as I would always endeavour (no pun intended) to take out all enemies silently and stealthily, that was never a huge issue for me.
I had really, really high expectations for this port, especially with the length of time it has taken, and my confidence was only boosted by the involvement of Skydance.
It seems that "Honor and the shadows" may not be guiding me to buy this game the second time around. 😢

I used to love Tenchu but also Shinobido way of the ninja, you ever play that? It’s kinda giving the same vibes and I’m living for it!
As a huge tenchu fan, that’s a shame. At least I got vertigo 2, as 2, re4, and asgards wrath 2 to keep me busy

Wow, I'm starting to absolutely hate all these low effort cash grabs that keep appearing on the PSVR2. It is such an awesome platform getting filled with crapware. Every trailer looks like a 9/10 game at least, every release we're happy if we get an 8. Sony needs to do something about this ASAP

Legit loved it on PSVR1, i only ever played it after the patches so never experienced the early jank.
Just quite unbelievable that they could put out a WORSE version after 2 years to hone it, and with skydance invovled.
Starting to get pretty irritating that studios putting out unfinsihed games are hurting this amazing headsets reputation..
But ill keep the faith, having seen just how mind blowing PSVR2 can be with stuff like, ironically, saints n sinners 2.

It's hilarious how they could just make another Tenchu game and make millions easily but try to reinvent the wheel with stuff nobody wants and they lost money. Good story for future developers.

This only makes me wish there had been a Sairento re-release/remaster on PSVR2 with higher resolution, textures, and more shadows and lighting effects.

I looked forwards to playing this on my new 800 CAD headset and so far there have been few and FAR between good VR games that utilize the potential and features of the PSVR2. I was hoping this game would be one of the few older titles that would give a reason to jump into it being the PSVR1 version was so badly rated I didn't spend the cash to play it. So far every major title I was looking forwards toward has been a MAJOR letdown and makes me wonder why I even bothered to spend the money I did on an updated VR headset for game that are either direct ports of games from the Quest 2 or direct psvr1 ports with all the same terrible issues.
Here is hoping Undead Citadel *if it EVER comes out* Vertigo 2 and Dead Hook are good.

Wow so glad I watched your review. Thanks for the heads up. This is exactly the kind of thing the psvr2 should be avoiding. We need polish. New psvr2 Controls were a such an opportunity here compared to the move. Amazing this is considered passable for the PlayStation store. Sony should have quality control on game releases.
Have they had any patches for this game to get it any better,because I really wanted to buy this game? I watched this three months ago when you did the review. I hate to buy the PS VR version when I can get it on the PS PS VR 2 if it’s better.

Wow no upgrade path? One of the ones who bought this but never got around to playing it but not looking to drop a full amount for this game again. Might go back and play it on the psvr 1.
Man this sucks. I really want that game where I have a sword/lightsaber or something. (With the exception of beat saber) I mean to actually fight enemies. This one doesn’t look too good. Unfortunately
The studio recently announced a quest update to be regressed but no mention of psvr2 update..ughhh!! Very frustrating!! I waited so long to buy a broken game on a superior headset. An aggravating trend in all video games unfortunately. I did voice my opinion on a psvr2 update so hopefully they so respond back

The reason it exists is lot of people want ports of PSVR1 games to PSVR2. It may not be the best game for everyone, but for someone out there, it may have been their favorite PSVR1 game. The graphics definitely got a major improvement. The rest of issues feel like bad QA on the port. It might be why it delayed from November to December, and then the developer was unwilling to delay further and miss December to finish up rest of the work that is needed.
Fortunately, there are many other games to be playing on PSVR2 and I have no issue waiting for this to get patched further and maybe end up on sale to be a better value proposition for what it is.

I totally agree! As someone who loved PSVR1 and really wanted backwards compatibility, these ports make me happy. Let's hope they can patch it up and make it worthwhile again! :D

Nope; not even close. But it seems Arashi isn’t hitting it’s potential/hopes people had for it, so we’ll see if they can improve with patches.

I had high hopes that this would be just like Tenchu
I got a psvr2 not long after it came out & ive played Pavlov & Saints & Sinners & it would ok but since then & even after getting my prescription VR lenses, its literally been stuck in the box & i have no excitement or even the motivation to get it out, & this feeling is compounded because all i see is flop after flop & yh theres the odd good or ok game but Sony should be knocking out bangers bcoz right now it has all seemed a bit half arsed, & Sony could be going all in & making sure they are the market leader in VR but i just dont think they care enough.
& what the hell are developers doing by bringing out poor games that are optimised like rubbish, dont they test & play their own games, its actually shameful.
VR could have been something so special but i just feel let down & right now im considering selling my psvr2, i think having 4 or 5 good games doesn't warrant the investment i put in which was about £650 inc the vr lenses,
I should be excited to get my VR headset out but im just not & i want to be so bad & i dont think im alone in feeling this way.
I can’t do this anymore with the PSVR 2… I’ve been giving it the benefit of the doubt this entire time but today is the day I lose hope.

It sucks because not supporting these developers will lead to low sales and probably studio shutdowns/leaving the ecosystem, but at the same time we’re consumers first. So if a product is ass, no need for us to consume it. Hopefully more devs start actually treating VR like how flat screens games are treated cause the technology is definitely there
Luckily we have plenty of developers who are doing the right thing and releasing good games. I'd say it's natural selection, but people buy shitty games all the time so I'm sure the devs will be fine regardless :D

Stop buying psvr1 games on psvr 2 they should be free and all it does is give devs the excuse to not make anything new. Half the catalouge is psvr1 "remasters" at this point.

How is it that you referred to this game as above average but score it at 4/10? Wouldn’t 6/10 be above average? Also, how can it be above average when the graphics are blurry, the controls don’t work properly and it’s essentially a samurai game in which the sword fighting mechanics suck. Seems like this should be more of a 2/10, no?
I referred to the PSVR1 version as "barely above average" and mentioned that there's a pretty good game here beneath all its faults. Hope that helps Marc! :D

Unless sony supports psvr2 properly and consistently it will end up as nothing but an indie fest that doesnt take advantage of even 40% of the system’s capabilities.
