I was at that race as a teenager. We had a cabin near the track, and got free tickets. Loved every minute of it! The old school track and facilities back then was awesome!!
I remember the Summer 87 Cavalcade Replay of this Event on TNN!!! Good Lawd where did the time Go? I still Have my Diamond P VHS tapes, too. Fabulous Floppers 1, 2, plus And They Walked Away 2
Good Times! I did NOT know TA/D driver Bill Barney ran a TA/FC you learn something new everyday. And Gary Beck from the Miner teams getting bit by the old Karmic Circle for trying to throw or change the outcome of the race. We would later in 1987 see a repeat with Dick LaHaie
I seriously don’t know how Minor never got in serious trouble. Cajun Nationals earlier that year, this race, and the ‘87 Winston Finals (that LaHaie even admitted that Minor through that race).
I’m 26 and I love watching the history of the sport and as a drag racer myself it humbles me knowing what these guys went through before technology really came in to play like today.
I met Shirl in the pits at Pomona just around this time & it was many more besides Shirley I assure you. Half the pits was run'n round with the sniffles, including myself & my friend I went with, who was a crew member on a FC! Shirley was talking so fast, it was hard to understand her, she was with a guest that day you may have heard of, his name....Tommy Shaw, of the legendary Rock band "Styx" No wonder she was so lit 😆👍
Living in Minnesota, in 1980 in Sr High school "there were rumors" of these guys who bought a closed airport and are having street rod racing party's up in Brainerd, DUDE !!! We then of course found out it was legit and not an airport etc lol. We cruised Anoka,Hopkins, Lake Street,Porky's, Sears....... B.I.R became the gold standard and the weekend destination. And no thumping stereos ruining everybody's day and night either.
Ouch you're not obligated to watch bail out now and save the time you won't be able to retrieve of that short term life you're so desperately holding on to don't waste time with reruns or maybe impresse us with your new content yeah I'm a smart ass

I went to the first Nationals in 82 and have been going ever since.

I loved American Sports Cavalcade when I was a kid.
It really opened up the world of Motorsport to me.
I appreciate that this is in its original 4:3 frame size.

Wish this one had the period commercials like 1978 gator nationals vid. Still great racing though.
Put something on that's not a rerun

Beat it punk. I love these reruns and it's all I watch on this channel. What a time it was to be alive.
