In my opinion, “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is the only pop sounding album she has ever released. “Room 93” and “Badlands” were more alternative pop, and her new album “Manic” literally cannot be categorized because every song on the album is a different genre. Yes, she’s been featured on “pop” songs but also recently she’s released a pop rock song “Nightmare” and released “Experiment on me” for the birds of prey soundtrack album where she literally screams her lungs out. I get this vid was made 3 years ago but i’m just letting people know what she has done recently in case they are just believing what this guy is saying.

Dank Potato chainsmokers were good until they where pushed to release an album and not masterpiece singles like they did before. The album was shit as a whole.
Sparkly Star I thought their album was great to be honest, tons of catchy songs and good dance production. I mean if you are looking for deep meaningful music then yeah you won't like it but it was a solid dance album and I like The Chainsmokers newer songs like Sick Boy and Everybody Hates Me
Cahan McLaughlin some of them where good but you can tell they were rushed and pressured to release multiple songs at once which wasn't their original style of composing. Yeah dance songs, sure, but if you take all their past singles and compile them into an "album"/playlist it's so much superior than their first real album. You take a famous painter who gets famous only because he takes his time with each piece to create a true masterpiece and flood them with commissions or a an offer for gallery showing with the condition of creating 12 new pieces in 6 months you're going to get an overall reduction of quality work. It's normal. But they forced them to make an album which took away some of their genius.

Tbh I used to wholeheartedly agree with this video, but she seems to have mellowed out over the years, and she’s always seemed like a good person imo. I personally really like Halsey’s music, her first album, which was about coming out of a dark place mentally, got me through a hard time. But I can easily see how she could come across as pretentious, she definitely does seem to try too hard sometimes.

Wow, a lot has changed in 4 years.
You were right in a way, I think Halsey had to fully embrace being pop instead of distancing herself from it. She doesn't really have the strong fanbase presence that many other artists of her caliber have, so she needs to rely on catering to whatever sound the general public wants at that moment. She adjusted very well in doing that. Literally a year after this video, she jumped on the collab "Boy with Luv" and a song doesn't get more bubblegum pop then that. Had she stuck to the Badlands indie/alternative sound I don't think her career would've gotten as far as it's gotten. Not to mention, it helps that she isn't as outspoken as she was before. She was incredibly unlikeable back then lol.
She's the epitome of "I'm not like other girls, I'm deep" culture and it's getting annoying to people who recognize that trope easily, as they've seen it before, but it's seen as cutting edge to those who haven't.

Personally I don't like her because of BTS, but I appreciate all the effort she put in this collab. Like she sang a few lines in korean she even learned the choreography of the MV beforehand. She was really nervous to meet them, she couldn't even look them in the eyes lmao. She really felt genuine, and not like she was only doing this for clout like everyone says. I didn't really know much about her until this collab but she seems to actually like them. So as long as she doesn't trash BTS' reputation I will respect her. It's my choice.

I love the difference between comments from 3 years ago and the most recent ones, plus those that says they disliked her before but like/understand/at least respect her now. To me, her persona just seems like a try-hard "modern" Electra Heart, aka, the former persona of Marina And The Diamonds.
While Marina's persona gives off a try-hard yet fragile girl simply tired of constant heart break and betrayal, and during the hay-day of Marina's career, aka during the Electra Heart phase, it felt like she *was* that character, or, characters? It's been a while since I've sat through and analyzed my view on the album, oops. Anyway, Hasley's persona just feels disconnected to herself, and the character just doesn't have any likable traits.
While with Electra Heart, the second the album starts, it gives off the impression the character *wants* to show, but in the same first song, we see how sensitive the character really is, but nothing of the sort happens with Hasley's persona.
I've listened to a few of her songs, and they just feel..heartless, the character's just a lustful druggie. Nothing redeeming, nothing charming, it feels like it was made for the media.
But hey, that's just my take.

Yeah I don't know about the word "sensitive". Maybe "tongue-in-cheek", an obvious commentary and so an obvious character, whereas this Halsey does seem to manipulate current topics to come off as deep, but it becomes psuedo-deep. I do like the "lustful druggie" phrase, because it seems spot on.

Okay, so, to reply to both of you questioning how I viewed Electra Heart as sensitive, yes, that line is accountable for my opinion of the first song, but then there's also that line;
"Girls, we do, whatever it will take. 'Cause girls don't want, we don't want our hearts to break in two. So it's better to be fake, can't risk losing In love again, ba-abe" clearly indicating to previous that the heartbreak she experienced is most likely what shaped her into who the character was today.
Overall, and although i do agree it is an obvious commentary on such an overused concept for pretty much anything in media, at least Marina is trying, (clearly much harder than Hasley has so far) but Electra Heart was based off aspects of Marina's life, but amplified to a much larger scale.
There's clear emotion, the songs are catchy, and Marina's voice just is simply unique.
Hasley even from the beginning was hard to get into for me, not only for her unlikable persona, but her voice.
Her voice is just..odd, to me.
Marina's accent, her voice seemed soft, but distinguished. Melanine Martinez had a broader tone, and was able to handle such odd tones difficult to explain. Hasley's just seems..I don't even know how to describe it, scratchy? And when it doesn't have an odd tone to it that throws me off, it's just bland, and mixes in with other artists.
She's simply unlikable to me. But I'm rambling again, so just, eh.
