I feel like every genre has their spotlight. Pop ruled for so long, then we had an EDM moment and now Hip Hop. In the 70’s and 80’s Rock N’ Roll was huge.
Ah, you put into words something I felt but couldn't quite put my finger on and place into words. I feel like this is definitely the case and we can only wait until for the half decades for it to change
I miss the era when you had different genres dominating not just one! I love pop, R&B , Soul, Rap and indie rock and many more . I loved when there was room for everybody to shine. Everything is so repetitive now
This happens every 20 years or so. Just like in the 90s , pop music was dead and it was all about rock and hip hop with Nirvana and Eminem. but then Britney Spears , Christina Aguilera , Spice Girls , Destiny's child and etc came to the scene and gave pop music a new life. it will happen in 2020 or so again. people always go back to pop.
@@jk-tw2ze wtf, Eminem came out with the album 'The Slim Shady in Feb 1999 and Britney came out with her album '...Baby One More Time' in Jan 1999, like that close, like wtf... To Farshid, it was not rock that was popular in the 90's - it was alternative, and grunge. But hip-hop was major and with a show like Yo! MTV Raps.
@@brockcutright9289 ...um... you are kind of all over the place but if you are saying Eminem came out after Britney but in the same era of music I agree. My point was that Eminem and Nirvana were not and are not the same era of music. Nirvana was the early 90s grunge era and gangster rap. But not without pop music as Mariah Carey became famous in this era, Celine Dione came out with her first album. Grunge was popular but people often forget there was a lot of pop, Ace of Base, etc. But really I think R&B ruled the mainstream charts more. And I would say all 3 genres are dead: grunge, gangster rap, and R&B. But I genuinely have no idea what you are saying, it seems contrary to my point but your syntax is confusing so the point you are trying to make is getting a little lost in translation.
This (most of Selena's "haters" are racists) Racist Bigot trashes Selena, who's music is simply and easily better than most of the artists' mentioned on this video and most of all top 40 hit radio artists, but praises and likes the cheaper music. Selena is no vocalist, that is sure, but neither is Taylor Swift, Madonna, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Chainsmokers, Justin Bieber, and they, among many one-hit wonders, are surely No vocalists. Yet, they are or were loved and sold huge numbers. IT. IS. RACISM that makes most not enjoy the music by Selena. Her REVIVAL album was easily better than 95% of all albums that have been released since in top 40 pop music. Easily. Some of her previous songs were also outstanding. Vocalists: That is not all that makes up a song. If the vocals are great but the rest is typical, basic, expected cheapness, then its all overall poor material. Shawn Mendes sings okay, his music is SO generic. Ed Sheeran sings okay, too, but his music is not that good and his voice, along with Mendes', are horrible. Ariana Grande started off with Good vocals, but over the past couple of years she can longer hold her notes/breath for more than 2 seconds, and her music is not exceptional at all. She goes high but anyone can do that, most simply choose not to. The best of pop are Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber (his "Purpose" music actually sucked but its Justin so it sold), Rihanna, all the EDM artists that we are familiar with, and The Weeknd (as long as he stops crying about his relationships).
nah it's more like 2014 WAS it's highest peak then shit went down slowly and then rock bottom somewhere in early summer of 2016. After that every damn song sounded the same with EDM beats n shit.
Yep. I remember the days when you listened to the radio and you could identify the song title and artist and everything was fun and dance worthy. But now all you hear are electronic/trap songs that all sound the same or similar and all the older pop stars are fading because they seemed to have reached their prime between 2010-2015.
Amando Pando back then bubble gum pop. Darkchild (had he same sounds for everyone) Pharrell and others had the same sound for everyone back then... although I miss it. Many things even back then sounded the same
You are forgetting that even though the singers are no longer in their prime, their producers can produce pop songs for the new generation, however it can take record labels over $1million to develop a new artist. I feel like it is the fact that Dr Luke is in legal trouble is why Katy is flopping. Dr. Luke prouduced a crapload of hits in the 2000's and 2010's but artists wont work with him due to Kesha's allegation against him. We also had RedOne who produced for Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga with Poker Face, Just Dance, Bad Romance. It is a shame that Lady Gaga had gained an ego so big that she thought she could write a hit with different producers(she flopped with Artpop which was when she didn't choose RedOne as the main producer).
harry styles’s solo music really isn’t geared towards mainstream pop. it’s rock music, so it make sense that we only saw sign of the times, a ballad, on the billboard charts.
Bleak Parade eh it sounds more soft rock to me. songs like woman and kiwi don’t strike me as folk much. mumford and sons, hozier, and the lumineers have a more folk sound.
Withro Anime Edits i completely agree! Folklore/Evermore is not generic pop thats all im trying to say! Her last pop era i would say was Lover. She isnt delivering singles at the moment and thats completely fine!
Katy Perry will never top her success of Teenage Dream, like half the album was hit singles. Firework, Teenage Dream, California Girls, Last Friday Night, The One That Got Away, ET iconic! Haven't been a super fan since that era, kinda over her
Vasilis Georgiou Vasilis Georgiou I think 3, don’t forget Birthday, that was my jam back in the fourth grade and it was all over the radio 😂 I don’t know about Unconditionally, everyone knows it but it’s not everyone’s favorite I guess, it’s definitely not mine 😂
its not just her, no one can top success of teenage dream. it was the peak of pop music (00's). i think only taylor could come close to its success with 1989.
Mayel T I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you with reputation, 1989 is considered Taylor Swift's best work yet and reputation even though sold more than 1989 in the course of three days has never been able to chart any of the Mega successes with 1989.
Lil Shiba-su Exactly and That’s just not it.When I see some people like Drake,Cardi etc dominating the charts when we all know they got 20 ghostwriters it’s just underwhelming and sad like I don’t feel the authenticity anymore in artists.
FINALLY! SOMEONE IS SAYING THIS! Pop music has been going down the drain. And it's so weird. It's literally been at the top of charts for years and now we have Drake, Post Malone, Cardi B & Childish Gambino dominating the charts. I think a lot of this is down to "locals". Rap is so popular within people my age. It's literally what's played at all the parties. And it's what they're constantly streaming on spotify etc.. Streams have such an impact on the Billboard Hot 100, and I think it was Diplo that said teens aren't gonna stream Look What You Made Me Do over and over again, it's not "cool". If you tell people you listen to Taylor Swift they're gonna laugh at you.
to be honest this is the truest comment on the video. everyone listens to rap and even though taylor swift is pretty good she's a joke to a majority of the people you'll meet.
Anyone remember when the Black Eyed Peas were at the top with like every aong on their album in like 2010 i think lol.. like they were busting out the singles!
I hate it when people overhype singers just to appeal to the younger viewers. Like no. Dua Lipa is NOTHING like Madonna. I’m very sad that OLDER PEOPLE who grew up with Madonna are writing these articles and comparing legends to upcoming pop stars that will die hard later on.
Meanwhile in 2023: -Midnights passed 1989 in international peak chart positions -Dua Lipa has #32 on all-time Billboard Hot 100 chart -All 12 of Ariana Grande's Thank U Next tracks entered Hot 100 -Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" broke an all-time streaming record -Harry Styles's "As It Was" nominated for 5 Grammys -Rihanna performed at the Super Bowl -Beyonce's "Renaissance" album won a Grammy -Adele's "Easy on Me" won a Grammy -Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" is top 10 on all-time Hot 100
there will be time that Jojo will leave Nickelodeon and establish her singing career that defines her. I bet she'll be the new generation popster in the making
Rihanna is collabing with EDM producers. Rihanna abandoned pop because she wanted to, in the same way Lady Gaga did. Look up Stargate. Stargate produced most of Rihanna's hits and she just abandoned them in favor of a dance-hall album.
I don’t have a name my radio doesn’t. They usually only play Drake or rap music all the time only on one radio station does but they play a bunch of old good random songs so they don’t play them over again
@A S hey, if we're talking about amazing pop music in this year, Bieber is not one of them. Yeah, his new album may sold more, but that won't stop the fact that he forced his fans to buy and stream his God-forsaken single, "Yummy", which is so down-right terrible. And the rest of the album, well, I haven't fully heard. The single "Intentions" is not good in my opinion. But if you really enjoy his new music, go ahead, enjoy it, and ignore my opinion. I think that Bieber's new music is garbage, while you think otherwise. So, do as I say. Have a good day/night.
2019: Ariana and Taylor are the main pop stars. Billie Eilish is doing great, Camila Cabello is fine. Katy kinda recovered but not fully. Amd the rest are still dead
let's keep it real, taylor flopped even harder than when she was in her reputation era. the only big females are ariana and billie even tho billie isn't that much pop
Taylor's lover sold well but it is no good as her old albums Lover is worse than rep ☹️ Katy that girl is underrated(never really over,365) she will release an album soon so let's wait and watch
Ariana Grandes vocals are underrated her most famous songs doesn’t really show her incredible talent 7 rings thank u,next etc ……… she is truly one of the best vocalist of our generation
2019 was a huge turnaround for the genre. Taylor put out a better album, Ariana came into her own and put out some amazing music, the Jonas brothers came back, Katy Perry released new music, it was a huge pop revival. And 2020 is only continuing that
No , they are just enjoying the last moments of true pop . They are all in decline and tiktok , social , meme , one hit "artists" are in the rising rn And the new sounds like HyperPop become popular 😬 like a personality trait Personally I want great singers with great ALBUMS not just singles with creativity and originality, that have an important message . And good performances, cuz they matter too It may appear as too much but we had MJ and Beyoncé , so the bar is already high ✨
We need someone to go full bubblegum. Way too many popstars are embracing the "mature, serious" sound to win over skeptics, & it just makes it all so boring. I want a new pop album so sugary it'll give me diabetes.
TheChazOtt Search Up Twice. It’s a kpop group that has some bubblegum pop to it! I’m sure you’ll love twice! I believe kpop is coming to rule the world soon!
So true!! It’s like there’s a stigma w releasing music which is full pop. Likeee they see it as shallow but the shit was lit. I miss the old pop erasss
The Scene music is terrible... literally anyone could’ve sung that. It wasn’t her at all, she didn’t really have any part in the creation. Selena’s new music is way better lyrically
In my eyes this is how pop is going to be saved: One direction coming back would be huge Taylor going to back to country but with pop elements like the RED album Gaga coming back to pop Katy and Justin starting to write more genuine songs instead of chasing hits Rihanna coming back to pop Adele coming back Nicki featuring on these albums
No, give space to the new ones. Most of these people already took their shot and made the best of it. Artists like Lewis Capaldi, Ava Max, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish(maybe), and many others. We've seen some bright stars but a lot are dying. Look into the future and we could see even brighter stars.
With one direction I feel like Harry and Niall are trying to make music that they enjoy and are not worried about their music becoming big hits (also I believe their albums are not pop, as Harry’s is soft rock), on the other hand I feel like Liam and Zayn are trying but sadly not really getting the hits that they want.
Catnip • You’re right, Zayn can be better than all the 1D boys but sadly he does no promotion of his singles so his singles can’t reach the top of the charts, they’re just popular among his fans and some fans’ friends
little mix, marina (and the diamonds), charli xcx and many other underrated artists that have been on the music game for the same time as taylor or selena and still don't get the recognition they deserve is so unfair.
I've put all my faith in Taylor and Justin at this point. Selena's sound and music quality has plummeted since her days with The Scene and Katy is on the road to irrelevancy if her next album is anything like Witness. And Harry Styles is really no longer associated with mainstream pop. Dual Peep is everything that's wrong with current pop music inside of one artist. She has it all: lazy stage precense, tired EDM sound, mediocre vocals, and unoriginal lyrics. Either somebody new has to come in and shake up the table, or the current pop artists have to get it together if they don't want pop music to die and evolve into something completely different.
Dua Lipa is actually amazing she has her own style and different voice. Her lyrics are amazing too. And no stage presence? I went to her concert and she hella got a lot of stage presence full of energy so idk what you talkin about
I think because, nowadays, if a song don't blow up on tiktok, it's not gonna be that popular..and it's a really wrong direction for the pop music. Dua Lipa's new album, as well as some underrated artists are being overshadowed by this so called "pop" music. I just hope more artist will follow her style of music, because one artist is not enough to change the whole pop sound.
@@onlyme1875 good point. I think she can do it, but in my opinion, times have changed a lot since then, so it's harder just for one artist to change it..maybe. it's only my opinion, it might not be fact
I enjoy pop but man do I miss diversity with it everything sounds the same. Same beat, same lyrics, and same voice. Please do something different and all of these new artists besides Normani are getting called the new Madonna which is so beyond what they are. You could play modern pop songs to someone who hasn't heard it and they would think they were all made by the same person. *That's my opinion*
love how you mention specifically normani as if she's the only one not being called 'the new madonna', if anything it's her fans as well that are claiming her as being on some other level
This is what my brother and I were just talking about the other day. Neither one of us really listen to mainstream, not because we're trying to be "different", but because we notice so many of these songs sound the same. Nothing new or ground breaking- just the same tired formula. Music companies are too focused on making hits rather than genuinely good music. The same chords and instrumentals, with the same lyrics about the same stuff, all written by the same people for artists and performers who all have the same look. So repetitive, vapid and unoriginal. Music in general is at a low point and it's gonna take something big and genuine to change that.
No, what’s controversial is the pop artist thinking their shit is good with its doggie, straight out of the sewer, hot, sightly slimy, horribly rank smelling shat. They are entertainers who don’t do their job. Like come on, let’s call a spade a mother flipping spade.
Not really. Most people agree with him, especially the newer generation who think they're different because they don't like new music. Most people agree with y'all and don't like the music on the radio
@@isalafond5571 if cruel summer was a single it would have DOMINATED the charts however lover was good choice by Taylor that song is probably going to play at wedding
“Taylor Swift flooped”. Bish what u said? Artist and woman of the decade. Can still sell over 1 million copies of every album since her 3rd album. She just dropped TS8 and as reports go she sold 1,3 million copies in less than 24 hours (no promo btw). And let’s not forget that “Lover” was the only album to sell 1 million pure copies in 2019. And her “reputation stadium tour” is the highest grossing tour in U.S history with only 38 shows🌟
@@jimmyrahi427 what an album!!!🙌 I didn’t like it that much at first as like a lot of other people. But just like always when she performs the songs live it just elevates everything. I hated “getaway car”, now it’s one of my faves from rep🙈. What did u think about “folklore”?

I've already noticed in 2016 that pop didn't get as much attention as before. It makes me quite sad because I've grown up with the pop culture and those hits were always cheering me up.
Omg this is so true! LOL TBH you named so many albums that I literally never heard of!! So many artists are going into more hip-hop, trap, or mumble rap music. That’s why people loved Apeshit-yeah Beyoncé didn’t execute her singing skills as much but she tried something new and mainstream. It’s pretty sad that Kesha and Lady Gaga lost their popularity when their images were mellowed-they still have wonderful voices and talent!
Well; Gaga simply has moved on from her earlier avant-garde pop works now, but her new song Shallow is a BOP and it's also just reached the top 5!. I personally wouldn't say "Joanne" and "cheek to cheek" eras were flop, they just were not mainstream at the core. And seeing the love people are giving her for her new style now with her "A Star Is Born" soundtrack, I truly think Gaga is a legend and has proved that she's a trend-setter, not a trend-follower. :D
@@manriq928 tell that to the ASIB soundtrack being both #1 and #2 on the itunes charts (explicit and clean), being one of the most influential artists in modern music, starring in and having a huge role in development of a HUGE movie, her next album being one of the most anticipated albums coming up, ARTPOP currently having a kind of second coming, so on so forth

Lorde definitely deserves more public recognition, her second album flopped so hard in the general public, in 2013 my mom was OBSESSED with her, hell we had pure heroine cd playing in our car for a year. But in 2017 I had no idea what so ever she mad a second album. Sad!
pop music cant die its barely a genre. the sound of "pop" music changes all the time. it literally called "popular" music. its just whatever is popular.
@@marvenpraisoody6822 I think rap is starting to bleed into pop and in the future that may be all thats played on pop stations. I doubt theyd start calling rap music pop music just because rap has always been a very distinct sound, but id argue that artists like nicki minaj, drake, kanye, are creating a sound that differs enough from rap that it could also be considered pop. id go as far as calling them pop artists.
@IMarkovic1995 like pop music, the sound of any genre changes through time. you may not like the current sound of rap/hip hop, but that doesnt change what it is. (im with you tho old school rap is way better)
That’s actually quite incorrect, pop started out as a blanket term for whatever was popular, but then it morphed into a certain sound and is now considered its own genre.
4:07, "Her stage presence is god awful; awful, awful, awful. Jojo Siwa has more stage presence than her." OOF.... my heart.... the truth.... it hurts.😩😥😩😫
Pop is always going in and out of style, what bothers me more is that there is basically ONLY Rap dominating the mainstream right now, we need another genre, I don't even care what it is by now
@@Judiwithluv a genre that isn't just pop music in an Asian language please. Maybe we can get like lofi hip hop, bubblegum bass or future funk popular. It would be nice to hear that on mainstream radios and not just soundcloud. I'd love to hear one of Porter Robinson's or Shawn Wasabi's bops on the radio too
@@remremkyuun It really isn't as simple as pop music in a different language. A lot of the times, they don't really follow any of the trends western pop acts follow. Like for example, Vietnamese pop music is currently under a sentimental/heartbreak/emo phase with seemingly soft instrumentation. It's melodic composition is affected by traditional music and the language's vowel tones. I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese pop though since I find it too cringy. J-pop isn't really a genre. It's an entire industry, one of the most diverse music industries in the world. Rock is mainstream, eurobeat is...somehow making a comeback. Focusing on just "pop" artists, while some sound basically like western contemporaries like Koda Kumi or Daichi Miura, the vast majority of what I would consider popular Japanese "pop" (maybe???) music these days is kind of like an alternative take on country or folk music. I'm honestly not sure if I can categorize it as pop. Anyways, Japanese solo pop divas have been irrelevant since the beginning of this decade. It's basically the same issue that's happening to western music, but instead of a takeover of terrible trap music, it's alternative genres and acoustics.
It doesn't feel like there are as many big pop icons as there used to be. A few years ago it was Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Rihanna at the top of their game, and now when you listen to the radio it's just a load of one hit wonders sounding the same.
kittle kottle Thank God We Got Katy releasing a new album this summer, she’s been in meetings with her management and the capital records, they’ve been helping her with new music and keeping her on top when she is releasing this new album, I have a feeling that she will be on the top of her game when she comes out of hiatus, and it’s supposedly supposed to be a banger of an album with Zedd, David guetta,it also includes a lot of the writers from her Teenage Dream album, lady Gaga and Rihanna will eventually rise back up I think, just got to give them time to produce new music. This Depacito and other crap won’t last for long, it’s so unoriginal and processed along with the never ending other one hit wonders why try to be edgy, girl please, they better get ready cause pop is about to go back to normal. 🍵
first of all katy perrys trash. Second of all I guess ya'll have never heard Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, or Childish Gambino. That's extremely lyrical rap. If you don't want lyrical music and you want music that makes you feel a vibe then Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, and Travis Scott are good options.
I hope soul music makes a comeback. Amy Winehouse started making it big and the. She died and so did soul music :/ This year the queen of soul passed away too. R.I.P Aretha Franklin
2020: Taylor came out with the lover album, I love the songs and the whole album was a bop! Dua lipa has improved so much in terms of stage presence and future nostalgia is such a good album. Also the weeknd's album is such a masterpiece. Basically everything is a 70s are 80s sound and I'm living for it!
Like he said "based on her standards Reputation is a FLOP". It doesn't mean it's a flop compared to other albums released. Reputation did 4.5M pure WW while 1989 did 10.4M. I feel like this is her Speak Now era. Not much of big hits on the HOT 100 with beter sales compared to other artist but with a much bigger Tour.
@@XAVIER-xz4qn No. That is highly unlikely. A year after its release, it is still selling over 21,000 per week. If that trend continues, in 4 years she will have sold over 8,868,000 albums. Even if that number halves starting next week, she will still have sold 6,684,000 albums. She's definitely going to top 5.5 million
It's now 2020 and Dua Lipa has officially saved pop music with her new album "Future Nostalgia" and Lady Gaga is about to make a major comeback with the Chromatica era. Harry Styles is also killing it.
Look y'all I love kpop with all my heart, but kpop is not going to take over the American Music Industry, most entertainment companies actually aren't trying to market their artists outside of Asia. Along with the amount of restrictive contracts that artists sign, and Korea's more sensitive media compared to the West just is not going to mix. I think we all know that Korea is pretty censored with its idols and the fans are ruthless, also historically it has actually been western artists who have gone worldwide and rarely has it been others. No tea no shade, but that's just how it has happened. Kpop, while I'd love for its artists to break through into the American Markets it's just hard, extremely hard. Oh and did I forget language barriers, yeah can't forget that, translators are expensive, idols learning English takes years.
Not to mention the career span of a kpop group is extreaml7 short compared to western artists. Like rihanna has been dominating since 2005 and bey has been in the game since 1997. Kpop careers are like 5 years long.
@@jiorama5459 yeah except for a rare few like Super Junior, Shinhwa, Shinee, TVXQ ,and Girls' Generation out of like tons of groups only they have lasted pretty long
I agree with most of it but still kpop (especially BTS) is getting lots of recongition. It's a very disscused topic since they won bbmas for the first time. And don't tell me translators are expensive with their bank account :))
@@ABCetcy Yeah, but the reason why I don't think BTS is going to last a long time in the western market is because this has happened before with Girls' Generation. GG was on multiple US shows during their "The Boys" era, yet you don't see them everywhere anymore. I mean yeah they are still huge in Korea but not in the US anymore. Eventually BTS' time in the US will end, I just don't know when.
tasha well I think what happened is that they let their chance go, I mean as bad as it sound, with fifth harmony out of the way, it was their best time to make something I gain a high spot as one of the only English pop girls groups that actually trend, plus with the rise of kpop and the complete absence of pretty much everyone, fans move on to other artists and some forget the old especially when it’s not brought up anymore.
ariana is thriving, dua lipa glowed up, katy and selena are doing fine, taylor released lover and folklore (the latter of which is an AMAZING album), miley’s gone rock, harry’s also thriving, still waiting on the album from rih and nicki’s + bey have been quiet, working on projects and collabs rather than albums, and billie eilish is running the charts rn tbh. also adele lost weight
harry's album was a masterpiece, it was heavily inspired by music from the 60's and 70's (which I personally love) I think that rock music is going to make a come back in the next few years, hopefully one day his album will get the recognition it deserves
I agree, the songs are just so fun to listen to! Zayn's two albums are amazayn as well, and Liams one is cool, Niall's is pretty good too, but LOUISSS WHERE'S THE ALBUM?
People are moving on to different genres. People are sick and tired of the basic nauseous EDM or Latin sound in today’s pop scene. They’re either moving on to K-pop, more Independent music or less popular artists in other genres. These bigger companies are trying to brainwash us into accepting these mediocre songs they’ve been putting out but it’s no longer working! I miss when Taylor Swift’s music sounded like it came from her diary rather than her robotically repeating lyrics and when Ed Sheeran actually had lyrics that sounded like he put love and care into their meaning. It’s time to stop the brainwashing sounds and put actual quality in music lyrics and their production
kpop is a blend/fusion of everything except country which is why i love it. you can have one song that switches up multiple times. check out WHISTLE by a group called Blackpink ua-cam.com/video/dISNgvVpWlo/v-deo.html
kpop is better than any of the western music out there. what they have done is unprecedented by fusing different genres. there is NOTHING out there like kpop.
@@emanueldelacruz1101 you say that but BTS is the biggest band right now and is dominating the international music scene. Mostly because the kpop genre is a focus on hip hop, rap, and many other genres.
I feel like Taylor doesn’t want to put out another 1989 album if you know what I mean, she seems satisfied with the fact that swifties love Reputation and attend her concerts. She doesn’t need the gp to love her music, cause she probably just prioritizes her fans interests and that’s it.
Lmao that’s cute that you think she doesn’t prioritize chart topping success. Think she just missed the mark on that album cause not all her fans liked it. It was actually quite polarizing to her fan base.
2010-2014 😭 I miss the good old days were both Katy Perry and Rihanna's songs played everywhere in a school program, malls, restaurant, salon etc. They literally shaped my childhood, generation this day will never know how they gave a massive impact in the 🌎
She's more successful than she's ever been. American Horror Story + A Star Is Born... even the older gens are appreciating her vocal work, acting chops, and presence. I wouldn't be mad if she decided to only do theatrical stuff. Though, I would love some new Lady Gaga music right before her Enigma Las Vegas residency.
What are you smoking? A Star is Born is the number one album all across the world right now. Shallow is entering the top 5 on charts all around the world, and Always Remember Us This Way and I'll Never Love Again are all going top 40. Plus, her movie is a box-office smash. One of the fastest grossing R-rated musicals/drama of all time, and on track to be in the top 10 highest grossing films of 2018, with the highest odds for best actress, best film, and best soundtrack. This happens every 20 years or so. Just like in the 90s , pop music was dead and it was all about rock and hip hop with Nirvana and Eminem.

'the same basic vocals over a kygo edm beat' SO TRUE
Internet Jules I love seeing my two favorite music critics showing support

Many things even back then sounded the same
👍Yep, I remember too
You are forgetting that even though the singers are no longer in their prime, their producers can produce pop songs for the new generation, however it can take record labels over $1million to develop a new artist. It is a shame that Lady Gaga had gained an ego so big that she thought she could write a hit with different producers(she flopped with Artpop which was when she didn't choose RedOne as the main producer).
harry styles’s solo music really isn’t geared towards mainstream pop. it’s rock music, so it make sense that we only saw sign of the times, a ballad, on the billboard charts.
also melodrama should have won album of the year at the grammys 🤷🏽♀️
Ugh the album deserved better :( it’s a work of art tbh
It's more folk than rock tbh
Bleak Parade eh it sounds more soft rock to me. songs like woman and kiwi don’t strike me as folk much. mumford and sons, hozier, and the lumineers have a more folk sound.
Kevin Llanto i love sign of the times but i agree that the song deserves more recognition. the entire album did

Reputation is doing really great IMO but I absolutely agree with you.Pop music became so generic and lost its identity.
Ofc Reputation is doing great. Some artists would kill for 1.3 million first week, but it's Taylor fkn Swift, you know?
SwiftieRunner .89 Lmao Rep didn’t sell more than 1989. Plus 1989 sold more in one week than rep in one week.

@IMarkovic1995 like pop music, the sound of any genre changes through time. you may not like the current sound of rap/hip hop, but that doesnt change what it is. (im with you tho old school rap is way better)

ROCK
@@remremkyuun we need to bring trip hop back
@@remremkyuun It really isn't as simple as pop music in a different language.

Preach!!
Not to mention the career span of a kpop group is extreaml7 short compared to western artists. Like rihanna has been dominating since 2005 and bey has been in the game since 1997. Kpop careers are like 5 years long.
