"Nude Sauna" is just the wrong term, because that is just the original sauna. 😂
The other way around should be called "Unhygienic dressed Sauna" 😉

He didn't see anything if he didn't join an "Aufguss" 😂 Would've definitely be hilarious to see his reaction to that

But... how do people in the US do sauna? In the sauna, you are naked, period! Not only in Germany btw. I think all over Europe, sauna's are naked. With ladies only days and all.

You barely change the temperature when you put water on the sauna oven. The water gets very hot from the oven and you just feel the hot water, also the air humidity increases.
But you will see on a thermometer in the sauna that the temperature is pretty much the same before and after.
Also the preset saunas usually also have a "Aufguss" (putting water on the oven) during specific times. At a wellness place with saunas there are usually time schedules listed somewhere on the walls / shown digitally somewhere, and during these times often a Saunawart(an employee responsible for the Sauna) will put the water on the oven. Usually these are also special Aufgüsse with different themes.

My parents used to have a sauna in their basement, but it never was my thinking. I used our own sauna maybe 2 times and public saunas when being on vacation somewhere maybe 3 times in my life.
I used to with at two different gyms when I was still studying. They both had a sauna. So working out and then going to the sauna for 15 minutes before going home, is a thing in Germany, too.

German here. I've been to the sauna quite often with my mother and later with my ex boyfriend. Yes, there are mostly elderly people and sometimes, if there's an "Aufguss" (sauna infusion), there might be 20+ people in the same sauna at the same time, plus the guy who does the infusion. If it's your first time, it might seem strange, but you get used to it.
My parents also have a private sauna in their garden which my mum uses quite frequently especially in winter. Sauna scents are always a welcome gift for her birthday or Christmas.
One negative experience we had with public nudity was when we were at a Therme/ Solebad (thermal bath) like 15 years ago. So I was still a kid. It was all fine, we were swimming in the pool, relaxing on the deck chairs. But at point 9 a.m., they made an announcement that from this point on, it's nude bathing only. Everyone got undressed, but my father refused to and we got thrown out.

In Köln (Cologne) there is a cable car crossing the Rhein (Rhine-River). It goes right over the outside area of a sauna landscape. I've been there (at the sauna) when it was snowing. No problem...
So maybe start with the cable car first and then work your way down? 😉

Might be easier to start off at a nudist beach at a lake or something, ppl r just not as close and rarely care what everyone else is doing plus u could hide in the water lol. No big deal really.

In Germany we also have home Sauna‘s for rich people, and small ones at the Fitness club for just the after workout relaxation.
My experience, however, was that the Fitness Sauna was usually hogged by a group of men, just like Nalf described, and when I finally decided I‘d had enough not enjoying the Sauna the guys all went quiet when I entered, it‘s a small cubicle after all, and it was an awkward 15 min sweat, because they didn‘t pick their conversation back up because Sauna rules are mandating being quiet.
Usually, for a Sauna Spa day, you need a long Sauna towel, so you can lay down, or you can double or triple it when sitting. Then you need a clean towel for showering afterwards, 2 small ones for your hair…salty and fresh …and a bathrobe because usually people aren‘t relaxing in the nude. You also need bath slippers or flip flops/thongs.
Anybody going for the full Sauna experience should also try the Maroccan Steam Bath, the fireplace for relaxation and Aroma Aufgüsse…these usually happen every half an hour and you can see them written on some board.
Changing rooms and showers and toilets are NOT unisex, for that Germans also want privacy and women want to feel safe.
Do NOT stare at people‘s bodies, that‘s a huge Nono…it’s like with the Kaiser‘s clothes…pretend everyone wears them. It‘s all natural, but no staring!

Wearing clothes, except a towel, really can't be a healthy option.
Imagine all the chemicals in clothes. And the heat in a sauna is way too much for these clothes.
I don't go to the sauna to absorb chemicals, i want to sweat bad stuff out and relax

In Austria and Germany Saunas are pretty easily accessable and affordable through gym memberships. A lot of gyms around my area have sauna's included in memberships for around 40-60€ a month. There you could go daily for like 40-60€ a month

Of course he didn't show anything. Cameras are strictly forbidden in the Sauna. Would you like yo see yourself nude on UA-cam, because some random American guy decided to show some "strange European Culture"?🤦‍♀️

FKK - Freie Körper Kultur or Free body culture. I used to go to the sea a lot (lake) back when I still felt comfortable in the nude. You can even bathe in the nude on the river banks right in the middle of Munich city center.
