Best advice I ever got on modes was to play the various patterns all starting on the same note (C for example). This allows you to clearly see and hear what the subtle note changes due to the sound. Really helped me understand it better. Good lesson BTW Travis!
Thanks travis i really enjoy your teaching cos even when you make mistakes you don't edit you just put it out like that. Thank you brother! Nathan from nigeria 🇳🇬 based in South Africa
13:02 by playing the same root on all of the modes, aren't you jumping from scale to scale? In other words, if playing within the same scale of C major, Ionian starts with C, Dorian starts with D, Phrygian starts with E, etc. In your way, you are staying in the same position on the neck for the root note, but you are changing scales by doing so. Is that right? Would it be easier for a newcomer to learn how to apply the modes by staying within the same scale, let's say C major?
Dont really understand this one....unless I study theory myself I guess. Only heard of these... Every cord is available at all times, so what is all the complication?

Kewl vid. I prefer to call seven Min b5 than diminished, based on the non-movement of the third in the root scale.
Thank you for a great lesson!!!!
Thank you! Amazing.
Dang bro you’re a great teacher!

Hello Travis, please is there any link between modes and licks?? does the building of licks lie on the mastery of modes???
