m111 does well for me. im not a fan of the dwarf rootstock. i dont know why you have struggled with apples so much. i dont have the same experience. its one of my easiest fruits.
Great video. I'm doing the same thing on my property this year. Getting rid of a lot of stuff that just hasn't done well in my climate and that I found out that I don't particularly care for the taste of. Replacing with things that thrive and require less care
You should look into backyard orchard culture. Also look up Dave Wilson nursery. There is information on planting high density fruit trees in these videos.
Ross love your videos. Tons of information. I had a small property in Arizona and got into a similar situation I just didn't have the land to do it all. We moved to east Tennessee and now have a ton of land. Are you thinking about getting land? It would be nice not to sacrifice for room.
Haha 😂 you are hilarious. While I totally agree and understand what your doing. It’s funny 10 Persimmon, 6 Jujube, 300 fig tree. OMG I have too many Persimmon and Jujube trees. I started a fruit forest and planted way to many trees and I’m ready to remove or replace whatever doesn’t work or is too much. Fun stuff.
We all create our monsters, then we have to feed them. I think it happens to most passionate growers. I’m guilty and it’s been a very hot dry summer. I love his plans for the property.
i cracked up a few times because i can relate to your ambitious ideas that, perhaps, may have been a little over-ambitious.. hah! cool tour! i'm surprised to see so much green at this time of the year.
Hey Ross when talking about your dwarf apple trees, said that you have taken care of your squirrel problem. Can u share how you do this? I have a lot of squirrels. Thx
Poison the big shade trees, I'm poisoning a few when I go back home for Christmas. There's two in particular right up the back of my yard behind a shed that are basically just a waste of space and sunlight for something else I could be growing there.
They're good when dried. Honey jar and sugarcane are very good fresh, but not as good as a high quality dessert apple. Li makes a great dried jujube, so I've decided to just stick with that one.
moving in the right direction. congrats

my guy is the container king!!!
I am near Philly too, I can come to buy your fruits 😊
Wow, alot of decisions. I hear you on removing fruit trees. I had to give away some stuff I grew in pots to make room.
Do an updated garden tour, please.
Aronia grows super easy but fresh its bleh but makes great jam. Cornialian cherry is good but grows super slow. In zone 7.
Apparently if you let the aronia hang on the tree for many weeks, the astringency goes away almost completely.
@@RossRaddi Eh, semi but wont me much left unless you net it and its for sure not great raw in any form

Absolutely. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just saw a video of your backyar orchard from 4 years ago with the 18inch hole and 4 apple trees etc is this sort of an update.
Happy Thankgiving Ross and Family .....🎃
Happy Thanksgiving!

This was filmed in early October!
@@RossRaddi Ah, that makes sense :)
The philosophy in my garden.
Do less but do it well.

WCS traps. They're amazing, Ron.
Still so green there. Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving! This was filmed though in early October I think.
You have shit tonnes of room mate, be grateful for what you have alot of people would love to have the space you have
When did you shoot this?
Plant the fruit trees in a row down the property line. Hedge like
Aronia is easy to grow! I have a “viking” aronia and it’s quite vigorous without much help. That’s a variety I’d recommend
Exactly what I planted recently.
@@RossRaddi The variety I have and it grows without anything touching it. Easy to create bushes from suckers too.
Have you ever canned or preserved your fruit? Maybe try it, fruit in January tastes pretty good.

I‘d have the huge shading trees cut by professionals and enjoy the sun on your southfacing patio. ;)
Thornless blackberries only. Hate the thorns
do you feel like jujubes flavor is kind of "meh"?

Omg. How large is your yard?
❤🎉🎉 exciting
One reason to grow apples is because they are expensive in the grocery store.
dude you need some acreage....a large piece of property you can experiment with
Cut down the shade trees!. I always say, you can grow one of two thing. You can grow trees.... or.... you can grow everything else!
Come on Ross you don't need that much grass....lol
Maybe just sell the house and move down south. Your plants would do better in the Deep South!
