HBO's Video Jukebox was our MTV before there was MTV. I remember the segments becoming so popular that they eventually got their own 30-minute show. HBO was honestly the only competition to MTV since HBO was the only channel that would have exclusives that rivaled MTV's best. IIRC, HBO was the first to air Total Eclipse of the Heart and was exclusive to them for the first month.
They changed The Great Santini to The Ace when it debuted on HBO. In fact, did they debut the film on cable first? I know the film had a questionable release in theaters.
