GABA Supplements Don’t Work?

- I know what you guys are thinking, why should I go see a doctor and get a prescription for a benzodiazepine when I can just buy GABA over the counter? It’s an interesting idea, and in theory if you use GABA, it should be binding to those GABA-A receptors and reducing anxiety in no time. The problem is when you take GABA it does not cross the blood brain barrier and therefore cannot get into the central nervous system to cause an anxiolytic effect. There you have it, I just saved you $20 bucks a month.

Gaba works for me. And i see immediate effects of it.
I don't have any issue with people taking GABA if they feel like it works, the truth is there isn't much evidence to support it's use in any medical condition at this time
@@ShrinksInSneakers Maybe placebo effect
@@ShrinksInSneakersThere is your proof bud. There are many thousands of comments on youtube about how Gaba supplements are a total game changer for folks. The proof is in the pudding. Not the “scientific” research.
Don’t be too caught up on “Gaba supplement doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier”.. it’s irrelevant in this case. Like in most cases. It doesn’t have to cross the blood brain barrier to work. Look into it before your next video
@@ShrinksInSneakers Gaba does cross if they have leaky gut/ weak barrier.
So does my autistic son! Totally different kid when he takes it!
Dr. Daniel Amen, a renowned psychiatrist who has studied the brain extensively, recommends GABA, magnesium, citrate, and L theanine. This video sounds in genuine to me. Anyone who would push benzos over a natural remedy is suspect.
Thank you
Where can I find the video as I am ready to start gaba right away
He is a new guy in his field. Read the channel description. It's saying don't believe that he says anything he can prove it whatever.
Adderall doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier either… yet it still works as a functional stimulant for adhd? I wonder why?
Ah. Critical thinking. So refreshing.
Uh amphetamine does cross the bbb 🤦♂️
A better example would be ibuprofen, it doesn’t cross the bbb but helps your pain
This is so wrong. 1000% wrong information.
GABA is available as a dietary supplement. However, much of it might not be able to get into your brain. (Technically, this is called “crossing the blood-brain barrier.” The barrier is a unique membrane that only allows certain molecules to pass through it to and from your brain). So, it’s not known what effects - if any - taking dietary GABA supplements may have on your brain. So far, there isn’t any strong scientific evidence to support the use of a GABA supplement for treating medical conditions. More studies, in larger numbers of people, are needed.
@@ShrinksInSneakersNeither does Tylenol, or ibuprofen or SSRI’s or much anything else so…… what is your point? They still work as intended. Why??
Because crossing the blood brain barrier isn’t necessary. It’s not part of the equation.
@@ShrinksInSneakersyou have neurons in your gut,
Gaba 100% works for me. I take it to ease the intensity of my tinnitus, which is worsened by elevated anxiety. I dont take it to manage my anxiety, however, as it's not that bad. But I can absolutely say that I feel it kick in within minutes, helps keep my tinnitus at a level that is tolerable, and makes me feel cool as a cucumber at the same time.
This guy posts a video saying "it doesn't work, there I just saved you money," then goes on to say "use it if it works for you" in the comments. Then multiple people in the comments talk about how it does work for them. Hopefully he takes this misleading video down.
Glad to hear it helped your tinnitus. I plan to start taking it for that very reason.
@gusthomas I have played around with GABA, Taurine, and L Theanine. I take all three but spread throughout the day. I've been very happy. It's not gone, but it's quiet enough to make me not feel the need to off myself on a daily basis.
L-theanine however IS a decent choice that's gentler than a benzo, and does work on gaba receptors.
So much for your degree. It has changed my life.
If you mixed it into something that does cross the blood brain barrier, would that work?
The best way to find out if it works is to use it yourself
I'm getting some of this based solely on the comments
Pharmagaba can cross the blood brain barrier. There is some evidence that L-Arginine helps gaba cross the blood brain barrier. Fiji kava is best for anxiety imo, but tastes bad and expensive
did a little research and read that gaba helps the nervous system and prevents the nervous system from overreacting people who have low gaba or if their body isnt producing it people have increased anxiety
Wow you have no evidence to back that statement up? A video beneath you said the opposite to you and then referenced research studies.
You seem amateur kiddo
Yeah, this guy has no competence and no clue. This video is purely misleading and he has no business posting videos advising people.
Gaba with nac will cross the BBB
Why don't they
Can’t I just dissolve it and inject into the shunt of my spinal tap?
Don't listen to the student, ask a doctor that's got the experience, if you can find one these days. I agree it does nothing for me but I've seen it work. My immunity is strong so it's good for a once in a while thing. A younger friend changes, so somethings do work for some people. Does not blood pass through the blood brain barrier?
Works for me
It does work if you have a leaky gut therefore leaky blood brain barrier. So that is why some people say it works for them. IN THEORY, for a Healthy individual without a leaky blood brain barrier, it shouldnt work.
Works for me 🎉
You don’t work
Most of your SNAKE OIL doesn't work, either!

Bull!
Bullshit. Works for me 100% of the time.
There isn't enough experiment on Gaba yet !
GABA has been a life saver for me
It might just be placebo, but either way I'm glad you found something that works
@@ShrinksInSneakers placebo effect for years ? Nocebo maybe is yours .
It works perfekt for my high bloodpressure in combination to my medication!!
ya let me become super doped out on benzos and help this great pandemic we have going on. terrible advice.
Make it into something that will cross the barrier
Good intel.
Thanks for watching
Helpful to know.

Its does work though😂
It works for me
You know nothing about pharmacology
