Insinuating Kobe planned on retiring just to do a farewell tour is incredibly disgusting. The mans body gave out on him sooner than his spirit. Nobody thought Kobe couldn't do it anymore entering that season. This whole part of the video rubbed me the wrong way because Kobe was a competitor and a man who always put everything on the floor, no possessions off. He wasn't a loser and definitely not a quitter. His body just gave out on him. That Achilles was damning. As a Nuggets fan Kobe is my goat. The man is the only player i've ever watched that struck fear in my heart every time he touched the ball. RIP!

Well Kobe actually stated after starting the 2015-16 that he realized he couldn’t play at a high level anymore. I’m sure at the time he said he wasn’t going to retire that season, he really meant it, but Father Time tends to hit you pretty fast. Especially coming off serious injuries. As for the farewell tour, he obviously had no control over that.

@@lemonlazer5687 Kobe wasn't supposed to announce it in a mere interview. He planned on announcing his retirement in his piece "Dear Basketball." Bill and Jalen were likely not notified to not ask him that question.
As for the farewell tour, it's like what Cosgrove said, Kobe has no control over the fans showing him appreciation.

I thought the same thing. Like, what was he supposed to do? Fans gave him love, and the media swarmed him with attention; that's the ideal sendoff for any player. It's not like he pulled a Jeter and got expensive gifts and enormous checks to his charity after every game. Also, what does it mean that he "went back on his promise"? Midseason, he realized that he could no longer give it his all either mentally, physically, or both. Would it have been better if he kept playing merely to earn a paycheck?
I totally understand Kobe's comments. If you're thinking about retirement, you're already retired.

I take issue with his Kobe example. Retiring is, in large part, out of a player’s hands. The body gives out making it challenging for the will to be effective and realistic. In addition, the question was posed in front of Bill Simmons, the biggest Celtics fan ever. Even if he were being coy, Kobe would not give Simmons that satisfaction. Cosgrove didn’t know what the assignment was.

As a Blazers fan and Dame fan, Dame has been lied to by the Blazers for years... Never got him any all-star teams mates in 10 years. I wish Dame all the best and hope he gets a chip in Miami, but instead he's being held hostage by the Blazers. We need to let him go and get on with it - it's difficult to enjoy the young team when we can't even let Dame go off into the sun.
Honestly, if you're a top player, you should feel disrespected if you DON'T get a double team. If you complain about it, you're probably NOT it.
