    Hey there, friendlies! I've finally finished that Puukko blade I got from the talented Saku Honkilahti.
    Saku's work is great and reasonably priced for what you get. If you want a blade blank or a full knife of your own, check him out on instagram: / sahonki

      Do it! Then show me pictures.
      Making a handle for this blank wasn't the same as doing up a whole knife from stock of anything, but it was something I'd never done before, so I'm happy about it.

    Great work - the oil really brings the bark and brass out.

      'Finally?' Is that a little bit of attitude I detect, mister? 😋Yeah, it's great to have it finally done.

      It's time-consuming as hell, but it's not actually all that hard. I'd like to make the next one better in the final finish department, but I'm happy with this one.

    Very nice Jes! I found that working with dollar store epoxy is quite good.. It can be brittle but when used as a glue, it's amazing for the price! I've used it to make micarta in the past.. I really like hos you nailed that oval shape. If you're not constantly checking the shape when sanding, you can get a extremely lob-sided handle..

      The nice thing is that the epoxy or glue doesn't really matter once the knife is all done up. Traditional stacked-birch handles have no adhesive of any kind; they depend on the sandwich effect of the metal bolster and pommel to keep everything together. I just felt better gluing up the birch. Hilariously, after starting with the epoxy, I switched to wood glue because I found it easier to work with.

    A few thousand hammerstokes later...
    Yeah. Make a full sized one. Try a shaped wood handle?

    • @RaindanceBushcraft
      @RaindanceBushcraft  5 років тому

      Tyler Rodriguez it was an unbelievable number of hammer strokes. That’s part of the reason it took so long.
