- The pomodoro technique is a mainstay of study advice, but it might actually be doing more harm than you think...

I never liked the pomodoro technique, I just like to do what I need until it’s kind of done, or I feel like I need to take a break
Hey Emil, I’ve been plateauing at about 2700-2800 with UCAT mocks, could I still steeply improve to a 3200 with only 30ish days?
yeah definitely!
Super interesting video Emil! I feel like what you touched on is what I've been experiencing with the Pomodoro technique - I sometimes found myself ignoring my timer if it went off once I reached the flow state, or on the flip side, eagerly checking it to be released from study. I love the concept of the Flowmodoro and it seems a lot more intuitive - I'm going to trial it for my UCAT prep (only 10 days to go!).
came from your flow state vid; thanks!
Great video thanks for the tips, what’s your computer background btw
I need to check ahaha - it's on wallpaper engine and I'm using an element on top of it
Hey Emil, love your videos brother. Just a quick point about the breaks you take, I notice Dr Andrew Huberman from the huberman lab was talking about remembering things you study, and he said that some of the literature says the best way to remember the things is to, after learning the material, don’t think about it for some time, and then get back to it, apparently can help with memory encoding. Just something to think about. Keep up the good work
What Huberman is referring to is retrieval or recall, which is definitely useful. I usually have a sépare step where I do full recall, which means that applying this idea during flowmodoro doesn’t help that much The other thing is that if the break is too small, there won’t be as big of a benefit
Awesome! Thanks for clearing it up
came here from faye's channel. This video is super awesome!!!
Hey Emil, I noticed that you are wearing headphones while studying. Do you think it is a good idea to listen to music and if yes what type of music?
Hey! The headphones I have are noise cancelling, and I mainly listen to white noise as the comment below has mentioned. I think music is ok as long as it doesn't pull you out of your work. I think your safest bet is classical or white noise or something similar
:D i got subject slection at school, i was wondering what are the most useful/best electives for next year which is year 10
Just do whatever you like! It doesn't matter how 'good' an elective is if you hate it
flow, I have a spec exam tomorrow, yikes
good luck!
Would you say going to a private school helps you get into medicine?
Not at all, I wouldn't think an interviewer would even ask where you went to school.
It definitely helps in that you might get higher marks and have more assistance in the process. That being said, universities don't preference kids from private schools
THIS SHIT BUSSIN
HAHAHAH
