    A lot of these exercises are great. I notice so many exercises done here are for strengthening and stretching the hips for mobility. A lot of this was out of fashion at the time and now being discovered again.

      I hate how much wrestlers and BJJ guys SHIT on stretching systems like Yoga... it will improve your mobility and reduce injuries.

      if you love this stuff check out indian wrestling workouts. not too crazy and not too easy. the perfect balance of cardio and weight training

    I remember I saw some photos of this workout on paper decades ago. Inoki asked Gotch for lessons in preparation for some big match. I saw movie for the first time. This is amazingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I am 55 years old and still having push-up in this style every morning.

    I went to Mr. Gotch's house (yes, I still say MISTER Gotch, even though he didn't stand on ceremony) for a workout with he and my father up in Lutz. He would've been 54. I thought I was in good shape since it was the middle of wrestling season. I was sore for a month. (His pitbull went through the same workout , lol)

    いろんな格闘技や武術やりましたが準備運動にこうしたゴッチイズムが入ってますね
    学生時代は柔道とレスリングやってましたがアップはまさにこんな感じでした
    あ!これオレもやってた!ってのがかなりあります
    多分日本人ならそういう経験部活であるはずです

      This is basic Pahlevani wrestling workout. Every wrestler in Iran and India do these before training sessions.

    Basic Pahlevani wrestling workout. Every wrestler in Iran and India does these before training sessions. I'm guessing Gotch also learned it from there.

      If it weren’t for Japanese Pro wrestling we wouldn’t have modern MMA as we have it since it started with some wrestlers who didn’t want scripted matches all of the time.

      Modern mma in terms of promotions and rule sets and organization. You can go back to the Roman Empire and before that Ancient Greece if you want to be a stickler but original comment is accurate. Modern MMA owes its existence to these guys/ Japanese pro wrestling.

      Exactly!!!...Plus a lot of stories from those old "Carnival Circus" days of wrestling. ..."Shoot wrestling that would get serious. Old time stories of guys eyes getting gouged, ears getting ripped and limbs getting crippled. They got very rough back in the day.

      No he did not. Though he was invited to be at Inoki's corner, he never trained Inoki specifically for the Ali match.

    Karl Gotch learned everything from HIndu Kushti wrestlers. He said, that when he was in India, they'd wake up at 5, take a bath, read Hanuman Chalisa and then do Abhyas (Training) for 5 hours straight and almost all of them ate a vegetarian diet except for Gotch ofcourse. This is what shapes you to be a legend.

    Gotch is a great trainer and god! Bob backlund would of been much better by training under this man! Not to take anything away from bob! He can still beat the current wrestlers of today! A dying breed!

    I see a lot of shall we say familiar--(or very close to...) yoga, chi gung, martial arts iron body, animal style floor exercises. To name a few. I'm sure I'm missing some.

      Heavy macebells and Indian Clubbells were also regularly used.
      Gotch was a solid heavyweight to begin with so the idea he made himself huge just by calisthenics is not true, although they did of course help him greatly in his ability to move like a much lighter person.
