Watching these videos brings a sadness to mind. I was born in Accrington in 1982, I lived in Oswaldtwistle and moved to Accrington in 1990. I lived there until 2001 just off Blackburn Road. Not been back there in so long, but it's slowly got worse and worse over the years. Such a shame.

@@scrollingthecomments.4043 I know York St. I used to have a mate live on one of the roads running off it, Princess St or Victoria St, can't remember which. Had a mate live nearby Canal St too, on St. John's Rd.
Me and my brother used to go in the derelict buildings on the main road, Commercial Hotel and the one next door, lol.
      Small world.

This was brilliant! I grew up on Ave Parade between 1967 to 1978. I was uprooted from Accrington to move abroad when I was 13. I weren’t keen to leave at the time and even now I have a soft spot for Accy but don’t get back that often ..
I loved watching this, thanks for uploading!

My great-grandfather had the first house on Queens Road built for him. He was manager of Bury Brothers' Fountain Mill. The family had to sell up c1928 and the house was owned by William Wiggins Cocker when he was mayor of Accrington (1949-50). Apparently Manchester Corporation installed a new bathroom in the house for Royal Family to use when they dropped in for tea and biscuits on a royal visit in 1949.
I can definitely recommend Trickett's ice cream!

I grew up on Alice street until 2001 and then Burnley Road, next door to St. John's vicarage.

I have a soft spot for Accy. Born in Blackburn Infirmary (because my mum was very young) but lived in Accy until aged 11 and went to St. John's School (thank you Mrs Baron, Mrs Balderstone, Mrs Thurman, and Mr Collins). I well remember the Odeon (then the Classic) on Saturday mornings for the cartoons and dramatic kids serials. Also the swimming baths with the beautiful coloured tiles and the individual changing cubicles. I'd like to go back to have some proper meat and potato pies and dandelion and burdock. Not so sure about the weather though.

It sure has , my gran owned the pots and pans shop across from peel St chemist , it was a card shop before that on the right as you entered the old market on peel St. God knows why they got rid of the market, peel St is dead now it used to be bustling

Of course the commentary is very amateur & corny to say the least....yet a wee insight into olde Accy. Glad I left in the early 1970,s and saw the best of what the town had to offer.
