  • I bought a Volvo V70 2.4 SE from Facebook Marketplace. Here's a look at the car, some history on the P80 and my take on the current Volvo market. There's also some police cars, a bit of Saffron Orange, me throwing a deckchair, the buried treasure of Cortez, spiderman, a small fire and more.

    Another cool feature about ordering a specialized Volvo from Sweden that isn't mentioned in this clip is that the steering wheel is actually mounted on the correct side.

    Personally I think the P2 V70 is the last 'real' Volvo estate and in my opinion is the best looking of the 3 generations of V70. However, because of its good looks, it is compromised on interior space, has a poor turning circle, and not so much easy access for working room under the hood. They are also a lot harder to park because of terrible turning circle!

      I disagree, the MK2 is a better looking car simply because the shoulders make it complete. When people say MK 1 is the last proper Volvo I don’t really understand that because the MK2 was a refinement of the MK1. Ford’s ownership of the company just before the MK2 came out and design by Peter Horbury of Ford seems to be an argument against the MK2. In my mind the best Volvo cars were made in the 70s and 80s and I own a 2004 MK2 V70 2.0T which I love.

    Still possible to grab these for cheap, but they got high clocks by now in 2022.
    I just picked one up for $1,200, clean title, runs great, 220,000 miles. But i love it already!

    We have a 1998 V70 2.5 SE 10v, colour is metallic dark grey, bought it in 2013 with 56 k genuine miles for £1850
    Just replaced the cam belt (again) with a Gates, water pump also, now has 81k on it.
    Exhaust started blowing in 2017 so had a full stainless system fitted by tony Banks in Leeds with a lifetime warranty, no baffle boxes, just resonators
    The sound is glorious, not loud, more oomph - better mpg
    My wife loves this car & it's my job to make it last forever, it's due another waxoyl this summer
    Heat the tin in a hot sink of water & spray on hot
    Inside all doors, inc tailgate is treated with ACF-50
    Friends sometime jibe us with remarks like - "when are you going to get a newer more economical car"
    My wife replies - WHY? car does around 2.5k miles a year
    A truly underrated fabulous car
    Oh - we have been told it's worth around £2500 now, great vid

    Had one in silver W reg classic , great looking car especially the backend, great sounding 5 cylinder diesel engine, ice cold aircon, roomy comfortable and quality sounding stereo, unfortunately the water pump suddenly seized up around 287,000 miles, had no warning noises or anything stripping the teeth off the cambelt hence pistons hitting the valves gutted 😭. Great video 👍

    Hi Geoff, just discovered your channel and being a lover of old Volvo’s, I love it.
    One thing though, the 850 wasnt the first front drive Volvo.. the 480 was, (launched 1986) and the 440/460 on the same platform.

    I have a 2001 silver V70 with 170k , a stack of history from the one owner, who bought it new and I love it... proper guzzler tho. No rust but peeling lacquer on the roof rails and a rather worn leather interior. It came with a winter pack, basically arse roasting seats and extra thick floor mats. I have a cd player and cassette player but no ashtray. No 7 seat option, cargo netting though. Turning circle of a coach .... a bargain at £500

    Exactly. Used and refurbished. More fun, greater value, simpler maintenance, no nonsense gadgets, more fun, better driving and parking visibility, did I say more fun? even greener than the greenest possible today. I drive a '91. Puch/Mercedes g, 2.5l 84hp. A workhorse just like Defender. Have it for last 13 years. When bought engine was overhauled and has never let us down. The mileage is unknown because it has a five digit odometer. I spun it onece but who knows how many spins it had. I am second owner. First ones were fire fighters

    Ooh is that a 20v manual? I had an S70 20v manual about 10 years ago, I kind of thought it was a bit crap - actually (had more luck with P2's since) - but it made a lovely noise.

    Great cars. Had one in that exact spec for the carriage of my newborn eldest. Sadly, the rear seatbelts were too short for the next car seat, so it went (I think for a W211 Merc). Fast-forward about 15 years, and I picked up a fairly tatty, 225k one for £300. Drove it (abused it really - was used for wet dogs and tip runs) for 18 months and sold it for £250. I’ve also had a P2 and a P3 (and an S40 and 7 Saabs. And I like IKEA. And Abba. But not Roxette) 🇸🇪

    • @GeoffBuysCars
      @GeoffBuysCars  2 роки тому +1

      They are great! How did you rate the W211, P2 and P3 against the P80?

    • @rhysparker6504
      @rhysparker6504 2 роки тому +1

      @@GeoffBuysCars They’re all subtly different. The W211 spent a lot of time having its rusty tailgate repaired (under warranty). The P2 was probably the best all-rounder, with the D5, but that was really the successor dogmobile to the tatty P80. P3 is competent but unengaging. The thing about a P80 is you can pull up anywhere and they still look ‘classy’ (if that’s still allowed to be a thing) - especially in the darker hues.

    • @GeoffBuysCars
      @GeoffBuysCars  2 роки тому

      @@rhysparker6504 Totally agree though it's hard to argue with a P2 in that dark blackberry colour but whenever I find them they're petrol with beige interiors... Always fancied a purple with black D5.

    Wow, I like the green! Two days ago I bought my secondish/firstish car: a 2000 Volvo V70R, it's just black, I would prefer this green or something else, but the paint's not bad and I still love it. It needs some work, mostly basic maintenance and the AWD needs to be fixed, it also really needs to be cleaned, but it was still a good deal for $1400 USD, and the best thing about it is that there's very little rust! That is amazing in Minnesota, apparently the car is from Missouri where there is much less snow and ice and they don't salt the roads; I will do my best to keep it rust-free and in good shape

    It's easy to put out the service light on these. Press trip, Switch on ignition pos II and wait for the light to flash 5-8 seconds approx. Take finger of trip button and switch off ignition. Leave it for about a minute and then start car. Light should go out with rest of the lights. Engine light? That's a whole new ball game. I have 2000 V70 XT on a V plate in the other green the more olive colour, an auto. Similar black interior. Non 7 seats and no dog guard but do have a load cover. Better wheels of the type you showed. Your wheels came on some R's but not my choice either.

    I am a ex Volvo master tech, tried to buy a nice older P2 or P3 recently but due to the crazy over inflated prices these days and the fact they are all 200k ended up with a rust free 2.4 10v petrol 60,000ml R reg P1. Needed a clutch which was for me a walk in the park but to others a nightmare, done it in the first weekend of ownership and as a 3k a year driver hope to see a good few MOT's with it. Don't make them like they used to.

    @1:41 That one with the awfully expensive headlights but fortunately you can get OEM quality headlights online without the variable displacement motor.
    @2:00 For me, any proper Volvo has no speed govenor is rugged and practical, otherwise it is a Vulva. The problem with you reasoning is that the Volvo P1800 was never boxy to begin with yet is regarded as one of the iconic Volvos ever.
    @5:11 That is easy Geoff, you'd buy a brand new car instead if you hate money or dislike Volvos. 😊
