For me the tertiary colors are called like this, red-orange = blood orange, yellow-orange = ocher yellow, yellow-green = poisonous green, blue-green = turquoise, blue-purple = indigo and red-purple = fuchsia, in Itten's color wheel where the theoretical primary colors are red, blue and yellow, and in the The practical primary colors of the subtractive color mixture in painting are magenta, cyan and yellow (CMYK) and the secondary colors red, green and blue, and for me the tertiary colors are yellow-red = orange, yellow-green = bright green, cyan-green = turquoise, cyan-blue = sky-blue , magenta blue = purple, and magenta red = fuchsia, and with the additive color mixture in the light colors, the primary colors of the light are red, green and blue (RGB) and the secondary colors of the light are magenta, cyan and yellow, and the tertiary colors are also called exactly for me like this, red-yellow = orange, green-yellow = poisonous green, green-cyan = turquoise, blue-cyan = sky blue, blue-magenta = purple, and red-magenta = fuchsia, as an example,

It kinda of depends if you are newton'ing or not
RGB (Red Green Blue) can make all colors when you are mixing by adding light and a example of this are the screens of digital devices because they create light, making it brighter as you add more colors.
CYM (Cyan Yellow Magent) can make all colors when you are mixing by subtracting light and a example of this is paint because a mix of paints absorbs as much light as all of the paints in the mix togheter, making it darker as you add more colors.
CYM are the opposite of RGB, and because of that adding CYM colors togheter in a subtractive case is equal to adding RGB colors in additive case because if you subtract the opposite of a color you will actually be adding that color, so red green and blue are the primary colors and cyan yellow and magent are their opposites, the secondary colors.

I personally prefer cmy over ryb for subtractive color mixing. I can easily make red by mixing magenta and yellow. On the other hand, it is more difficult for me to make actual magenta as I would get a desaturated color if I mix red and purple. While I would usually receive purple when I mixed cyan and magenta, I can easily make blue by mixing cyan and purple. Speaking of purple, I receive a black or muddy color if I mix red and blue. However, I am able to create a gorgeous hue of purple if I mix blue and magenta.

You got it mostly right, but in the end, it's wrong. Color is created in the brain based on the wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum of electromagnetic radiation that reach the cone cells in the back of our eyes. The cones send messages to the brain about the proportions of long, medium, and short-wavelength light. We learn that when the wavelengths are mostly long, that's red. Medium, that's green. Short is blue. RGB. It doesn't matter how the wavelengths were created. For example, you didn't come to our homes with your magic markers, draw your color wheel, and shine a light on it. Our computer monitors excite phosphors that emit short, medium, and long-wavelengths of light. If our eyes are open and facing the monitor and the emitted light reaches the cones at the back of our eyes and the signal is created, sent, and received describing the quantities and proportionate amounts of the various wavelengths of light AND our brains are aware that people in our society have assigned names to some of the possible combinations, that's when color is created. It's all in our heads. On top of that, when you mix your magic markers or pigments or dyes or whatever, you still have not created colors. You created something that selectively absorbs portions of light created by another source such as the Sun or a lamp, and reflects the rest if it is present. Take the color wheel you created into an unlit closet and close the door. What colors can you see? If you say black, technically, that is not a color, but everybody thinks it's a color, so OK, fine. Here's the last test for primacy -- create white. You can't with cyan, magenta, and yellow. They don't even create black very well. Red, green, and blue are what we see, and therefore they are the primary colors.

      @TheBlueye13 5 днів тому

Additively yes. But when speaking in terms of paint you want pigments that only absorb a singe additive color.
Cyan for example only absorbs the Red wavelengths, which means the green and blue still make it to your eye. If you then want to filter out the blue as well you'll only have to mix in some yellow paint. One you filtered out red and blue the only wavelengths hitting your eye will be green.
RGB make for terrible pigment mixing colors because they absorb two ranges at once.
CMY make for terrible light mixing colors because they emit two ranges at once.
RGB are the secondary colors in the subtractive CMY model and CMY are the secondaries of the additive RGB model

I think the primary colors should be cyan, magenta, & yellow. Because when I mixed green & purple. I would get blue. And when I mixed magenta & yellow. I would get red.

I think both ways got 2 right or somewhat because the original way to me the green looks like green and orange looks like orange but the purple don't really look that right and the way you believe I think the red looks almost red but kind of more orange honestly and the green looks great but the blue looks 100% like purple so I don't think either way really mixes perfectly like they're supposed to honestly but the old way got 2 right IMO more completely and the new way got basically 1 1/2 right to me because the green and the orange honestly look fine to me mixing the old primary colors but only the green really looks right to me under the way you're recommending and the red looks closer to orange than red, the blue looks totally purple and under the old way the purple looks somewhat purple but not really that much but to me going by the old school way is more accurate honestly.

Ok, so… In my opinion, both ryb and cmy are correct in terms of paint. Then I learned about the rgb color model that is used in light. So tell me if I’m correct about the colors in each color model:
    RYB
    Red
    Vermillion
    Orange
    Amber/Marigold
    Yellow
    Chartreuse/Lime
    Green

    Chartreuse/Lime
    Green
    Aquamarine
    Cyan
    Azure
    Blue
    Purple
    Magenta
    Rose/Hot Pink
    CMY
    Magenta
    Rose/Hot Pink
    Red
    Orange
    Yellow
    Chartreuse/Lime
    Green
    Aquamarine
    Cyan

    • @Posiman
      @Posiman 6 місяців тому +3

In theory you get black. In practice it might be little off, slightly greyish or brownish.
That's why they also use black in printing (and also because black is cheaper to manufacture, so it would be really wasteful to mix it with three more expensive pigments, especially since a lot of what people need printed is just black text)

I have better names for the tertiaries:
A better name for Yellow-Green would be ‘Chartreuse’
A better name for Green-Cyan would be ‘Spring’(Not Turquoise cause Turquoise has more Cyan)
A better name for Cyan-Blue would be ‘Cornflower Blue’(Go into Google slides and hover your mouse over the colour between cyan and blue when picking a colour, that’s what it says)
A better name for Magenta-Red is ‘Fuchsia’
If you’re confused why I’m spelling it colour, it’s because it’s spelled like that in the UK and I live in the UK

      Or maybe:
      2-Red is complement to 1-Cyan
      3-Orange is complement to 3-Blue
      1-Yellow is complement to 2-Indigo
      3-Lime is complement to 3-Purple
      2-Green is complement to 1-Magenta
      3-Emerald is complement to 3-Ruby
      (1 = primary, 2 = secondary, 3 = tertiary)
Check out my COLOR CUBE PROFILE PIC (I Drew it on MS Paint LOL), Its a good COLOR WHEEL reference.
Notice the corner edges are primaries and secondaries, while the straight edges are tertiaries.
Left side of the cube are WARM colors (Red, Orange and Yellow are the Hottest)
Right side of the cube are COOL colors (Cyan, Blue and Indigo are the Coldest)

@@ethanalgicosathlonchannel1110 So can Chartreuse also be called Lime? Like Lemon is Yellow, Fuchsia is Magenta and Turquoise is Cyan. Your information while correct is not the full story. See, inks use translucent medium while paints use an opaque medium. In other words, your examples are only showing true because of the specific model you are working in. Medium has to be taken into account. This could be taken even further when one considers digitally rendered colors (pixels and such) rely on the RGB model.

It works with an opaque medium such as acrylic paint as well. You get the same results. Red, yellow, and blue still don’t mix to get the right colors. And cyan, magenta, and yellow mix to get the right colors. There may be other mediums, sure, but I know that paints mix this way as well.
