There are instructions somewhere that say the bands need to be manually stretched out before wearing. I'm pretty sure most people don't know that, which is understandable, so far this is the only mask that I know of where you have to intentionally stretch the bands before wearing it. (And 3M could make that instruction more prominent, somewhere, maybe even on the mask itself). This is my favorite n95 mask. Thanks for the review, and thanks for the testing (it's nice to know it's got a really good filtration score).

I just bought these masks and they work great for me, the tight fit may not be the most comfortable but it's much more reassuring than kn95 masks which are leaky at least in my use. Thank you!

Agreed, not the worlds most comfortable N95, but if you had to pick between a slightly uncomfortable N95 or a loose fitting unsealed facemask, we would definitely recommend the tighter fitting N95. There are some very good KN95 masks as well, but the KN95 standard does allow for greater inward leakage than N95.

I've found that these masks have the most consistent fit for me. Yes they are tight and yes the strap do fail with repeated use, but they are the most breathable of the masks I've tried over the past two years. I also appreciate being able to check the authenticity of my masks on the 3m website.

Hi Andrew! Absolutely, the masks tested wonderfully for filtration and breathability. We're glad you enjoyed the content!

Curiosity got the better of me, and I bought some 8210 at the local Home Depot. 3M knows filtering material. All this one needs is adjustable straps, or a "big head" version with more reasonable strap length. You can try "pre-stretching" the elastic with 2 hands, while avoiding stress on the welds, but with my big head, starting out with longer straps would still easily provide a great seal. Short straps a bit frustrating, because otherwise this 8210 suits me well, and it's quite breathable. I will likely go back to living with something that smothers a bit, instead of strangles. The manufacturing odor is no big deal as long as you can air it out for a bit, before use. I liked the nose clip better than the AccuMed reviewer did. Firm external, with foam strip underneath (inside).

I've bought these masks, only one box to be fair when for when I had to travel, they do fit really well imo, although I could only use them for 3 or 4 different days before the straps gave out, after the first day I could see one of the straps a bit thinner from stretching.
Normally I use the 9820 which are a bit bigger but also feel a bit uncomfortable on the nose after a bit but the straps on that one seem to be more resistant because they've never snapped.

If you could test the Drager 1750 N95, that'd be great. I got some from the National Stockpile through Rite Aid, and really like it.

Jealous that you keep getting good ones from that program. I live in a heavily populated area, and have only seen really bad clunkers so far. Don't know if you saw A. Collins gave the Drager quite good numbers. That brand seems interesting.

Great breathability and PFE results, but if those are tight on your tiny head, they would dig trenches in my big head and face!

Hi! Would you be able to explain why some N95s such as this one that consistently have >99% filtration are rated N95 instead of N99?
