Fun fact. Cobra and Beverley Hills Cop were based on the same script. It was decided that the original script didn't have a consistent tone, hence Stallone requested it be rewritten as a hard action movie. Another rewrite went the comedy route and was then pitched to Eddie Murphy as BHC.
His rewrite and recut of First Blood pretty much turned the film from being a dour, overlong snoozefest into a masterpiece. He literally lurched when he saw the rough cut and he took pretty much full control of the film.

Good movie, but I think it may have been even better had the MPAA not edited 40+ minutes of the film, what was cut you might ask, plot and character development and of course violence, I hope we get a special directors cut edition of this film someday.
Dude, I've seen a good 10-12 minutes of deleted scenes from a Canadian tv channel broadcast that someone uploaded here on youtube, and really, it didn't add much to the film. And I'm not talking about the deleted scenes on the dvd/blu-ray either.

I don't know why but Silvester Stallone manages to sell every idiotic line in this movie, in every movie. When Arnold is just likeable and charismatic, Sly has darker edge about him which makes his characters interesting. And also, you have Sledge Hammer in your Stallone movie.
You should try your hand at reviewing Space Adventure Cobra (the 1970s classic version, not the 20th Century revival). That series was an homage to the kinds of movie series that you seem to dig so you might enjoy seeing a take on it from the East before the tropes popularized in the 1990s well and truly took hold of the Japanese animation scene.

Always thought that cover looked completely bad ass, it stood out from the rest of the stuff I was renting. I was on an 80's horror kick though so I never did get to it but wanted to get around to watching it eventually. Then Blockbuster died :(
Are you going to review the original Red Dawn? That movie, from 1984, fits right in with 1980s action. What about any of the classic horror films, I Spit on Your Grave, Last House on the Left, Dawn of the Dead and Motel Hell?
I always thought the plot to these films were just a little underdeveloped. The (small) plot to Predator was perfectly balanced, it wasn't too detailed, but it had enough to keep us grounded. I'm not saying turn an action film into a soap opera, but give us a plotline to stabilize expectations imo. I would still take these 80's flicks over 95% of anything coming out today, so I don't think I'll complain too badly.

can definitely hear that polish in the sound, although... I think the timing in the first one with the edits was slightly more on beat than this one.... I know I know, plebs are never fuckin' satisfied. It's probably more my way of saying I loved the first version of this review enough that I watched it enough times to even pick up something so minuscule. either way... it's definitely obvious to see the boost in quality.

Look i gotta say this just because its the first dosent mean its the best i mean Jesús this thing aged about has well has a carton of milk, still worth the effort but kinda hoping we get a remake of this with the energétic razorfist of now. This remaster gets an A+ though,going back to watch now it's frankly better than the original.

Stallone can write and people often dismiss that, but the scripts he writes always produce watchable films. Can't say that about most writers.

can definitely hear that polish in the sound, although... I think the timing in the first one with the edits was slightly more on beat than this one.... I know I know, plebs are never fuckin' satisfied. It's probably more my way of saying I loved the first version of this review enough that I watched it enough times to even pick up something so minuscule.

Look i gotta say this just because its the first dosent mean its the best i mean Jesús this thing aged about has well has a carton of milk, still worth the effort but kinda hoping we get a remake of this with the energétic razorfist of now. This remaster gets an A+ though,going back to watch now it's frankly better than the original.
