- Great Loop Travel Day 1 - Demopolis to our TN-Tom River anchorage at mm149. Got a late start due to lock repairs needed in the morning , we finally got started around 12:30 but made good milage , 64 miles

The folks at Demopolis were the best, the marina owner's grandson was a true gentleman and a great guy who came aboard to diagnose a problem we had and wouldn't take a penny for his work and advice.

Purchased our boat a year ago to prep for a 2020 move aboard... parents health issues paused our plan. Boat has been sitting a year. Just getting started doing interior refit. We are a year behind schedule. Looking to do the loop in 2025. Watching your and other videos will keep us inspired. We will start vloging and sharing progress soon.

The drone was a great idea!
It was a nice video. I would have liked to hear about the trip and area without music. I watched most of it with the music way down low and that made it watchable.

I kind of disagree with that sentiment. Still, it is helpful to hear the radio comms with the locks, and would also be insightful to hear radio chatter with the barges, e.g. passing situations.

I wanted to watch and listen to you describe how you made the Great Loop - Not to listen to music and sped up videos. I hope you enjoyed your trip.
Nicely done, you keep things moving and fun. So as the first time watching your channel can I ask what boat you have and any recommendations on what boat for the loop, as well as the drone? If the insurance criteria will ever change I hope to do this in retirement in two years.
Thanks , need to get back do doing more , been sidetracked . Drone is a DJI mavic pro, DJI has the best software /Hardware IMO . If you get one , make sure you get Personal Article insurance and have it covered , not a question of if but when you will put it in the water ,crash or have a malfunction. The boat is a 2000 Ocean Alexander 510 Classico

Try to balance music with audio from the camera. Way loud.
I've ready several comments about the music being too loud.. It's not too loud in the mix. I think people just can't get into the music mood.
What make/model is your vessel? My wife and I are in the beginning to look at purchasing a looper. Do you have a video tour of the boat?

Is the barge on the left because it's on the outside of the river bend? I assume so.
At what point in the video? At the beginning there is a Tow fueling at the fuel docks which was on the left hand side of our vessel , late in the video after l landed my drone we had a barge pass us on the right , our starboard side to his starboard side

@@vicpinto1970 oh yea , no it was just his preference of where he wanted me as he passed headed upstream. We had AIS and where transmitting our location , I had stopped /slowed to catch my drone , he reached out as he saw us in the middle of the channel around the bend on AIS , wanted to be sure we did not have any engine issue or problems , in that conversation I asked how he preferred us to pass 1 whistle to 2 , he preferred 2.
Most of the time on the Tombigbee tows will reach out if they are uncertain of your intentions, if they are aware of you via AIS. One of the reasons I recommend AIS transmit capable Equiptment for looping. Did not have the same interaction with tows on the St Lawrence , but all along the ICW and in the river systems in the USA it was very useful. It is especially useful at night if you find yourself in a situation where you must drop anchor on the river, which we had to do on two occasions , south of Demopolis on the Tombigbee there are very few anchorages out of the channel at normal pool.

what was your speed on this leg?
We got a late start that day due to a lock maintenance issue , ran most of the day at 1500rpm , which put us at 13MPH with the 3.4 MPH current we had heading down river, if I recall the river was at yellow stage meaning it was higher than normal and dams where releasing high flow to drop the levels as fast as possible
