    Hey long time viewer, and first time commenter. I very much appreciate thegoodrides reviews.
    I normally ride shorter 151-156 twinish, hard charging, poppy cambers. But im looking at expanding my quiver and saving my back leg by adding a binder-surfer to it. And just learning a new fun style of snowboarding. I'm very interested in the Pin Tonic and the Nidecker Beta apx. They seem like fairly similar decks. I'm curious how the 2 compare and contrast. I'm needing something for those long low-angle powtree runs that stay fresh days after a storm 🤫.. I'm mostly wondering how they differ in float,turns,trees, and small to medium-small natural jumps.
    Excited to hear your feedback on these 2 decks. Thank you!
    Also im 5'8 and 155 lbs. Utah ❄️

    Korua makes the best boards out there

    Would love to have heard about some other boards that ride well in low angle Powder. Mt Bachelor sounds like a lot of the Japan experience with flat zones to catch you out or low angle slopes with a lot of powder. Travelling overseas a board that can shred both powder and groomers is great to allow the rider to travel with one board for all situations.

      Good feedback. It's hard to get too in depth comparison wise with a review of one board but we do factor low angle pow float into our overall rating as well as break it down in every review. I'll try to make a low angle favorites vid this fall but check our pow favorites here as well thegoodride.com/98487-2/

      @@thegoodridesnow it would be awesome to see a low angle powder board top 5, keep in mind some of the deepest powder on the planet (Japan) can have variable angles with weird resort designs with runouts on flat terrain or on the sides of volcanoes which can start off steep but back off the gradient at lower angles. Flying internationally you want one board that will hopefully be easy to live with in deep powder but have edge hold and speed for the groomers and getting across the flat spots and out of the trees. Most people don't take dedicated powder boards but something that can cover it all. Burton Flight Attendant seems like the default board for many riders for years although various Jones boards have become very common. Love my Burton Skeleton Key but want more float than my 159cm. Longer (+160cm) boards like this Korua makes sense to me for Japan. Keep up the great work.

    How does this compare to the Korua Pencil?

    Pin Tonic or Giant Mantaray? You can only chose one.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Місяць тому +1

      I'm not you so my choice won't help you. Since I know nothing about you it would be a wild ass guess. Go Pintonic if you like a longer stiffer faster board that floats better in powder. Go Giant Mantaray if you like a more mellow/easier turning board that has a super fast base. If you want to do this right hit me here shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/

    Would you say it’s nimble through the trees?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  11 місяців тому

      Through the trees in good powder? Yes. Very nimble for its size. In tracked up not so good snow its still doable but there are narrower and shorter boards better for this.

    I’m a little confused between choosing this board and hovercraft 2.0, and I’m wondering about the differences between them on piste and in powder……

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  7 місяців тому

      They are super different boards with a very different riding style in mind. The Pin Tonic is made to ride longer and rides much further back on the tail. It is also surprisingly more turny but it prefers a very posi stance. So is the pintonic 164 a "pencil 159" but with a longer tail?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  10 місяців тому

      No. It's more a peer to the 164 Pencil but really has it's own ride unique and feel to it. I did same day tests with the 164 Pencil.

  • @Anukulous
    @Anukulous 11 місяців тому

    Would this board be an ideal sub to the Burton Power Wagon? Have you tried that board? I am waiting patiently, but eager to know how the it rides. The 166 has the same sidecut radius as the Jones Freecarver 9000 of 9.0 m.
    Nice reviews. I like the extra b-roll of you and davey hitting some pow and groomers. Keep it up because i like it. 👍🏻

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  11 місяців тому +3

      Working on the review right now...just soo behind... Not like the Pin Tonic or the Freecarver. A 9m sidecut in a 156 is very different than a 9m sidecut in a 166. The Pin Tonic's only similarity to the Power Wagon is the pin tail. That's it.

    Korua seems to have some of the most unconventional shapes. Its great to see more reviews like this to help de-mystify them!

    What a beautiful board. Reminds me of my Terrapin, just the shape because they are so different concepts (and the Terrapin is a bit of a nightmare in groomers lol). I love the absence of graphics in Korua's boards, just the white top sheet and the red sole without any logo. Also, I loved this video because you showed other spots than the usual ones, tons of pow and sunny.

    Hello. Consider and buy pin tonic in 172. I have darts in 160 love it in powder. But want a board for low angle powder. Looking for something that carvers and floats. And can charge hard. What do you think about alternative boards? Recommendation?Some boards i Have owned flagship, japow, orca, solution, excavator. I still have some of these. Spec 90 kg in gear, shoes 11.5, height 184cm
    Best regards

      Gotcha. Ok then there should be little overlap with your quiver and the Pin Tonic rides pretty different than the Japow too. This should be a good choice.

    sounds awesome. how would this compare to the Rossi Sashimi?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  11 місяців тому +1

      Not very similar. The Sashimi has more taper and rides shorter. It also doesn't feel as stiff or have as much pop. I like the base, turning experience and float in powder better with the Pin Tonic as well.

    Thanks for the comprehensive review as always! Looking at this shape and the pin tail deisgn, it reminds me of the Elevated Surfcraft Step Up. Both in the 163-164 range, with seemingly similar strengths. How would you compare the two?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  11 місяців тому +1

      No problem. So it's nothing like the Step Up. That has a tail wider than the nose which is very unique to the industry. The Pintonic has 31mm of taper which is huge so they are two very opposite boards in terms of ride/on snow feel.

    • @timlims
      @timlims 11 місяців тому

      @@thegoodridesnow that makes sense. Both pin tails but completely opposite tapers, so the difference in ride experience makes sense. The Pin Tonic seems super interesting and something I’d love to demo
