Neutral fan,,, there was nothing in that tackle , ref had good view and no-one claimed foul, var gets worse every week.
Literally, all the Palace players put their hands up.
The corruption is real, a sending off could make the VAR operators mates a lot of money, it will come out in years to come that it was all part of a betting scandal.
@ushmush4074 Only 2 of them did and it was because they seen their teammate making a meal of it rolling about
@@ushmush4074 Did they? Must be a red card then.. not really
Foul no card, he didn’t touch the ball at all just let the player up and continue the game from a free kick… have no clue why everyone is so black and white on both sides yet so wrong…
Never a foul. Decisions like that just puts you off watching football.

And the non-entity punditry. I want to see an ex-pro spitting feathers and getting angry about our game being ruined by officials and technical bullshit.
@@MayorofMagalufStuds up and 6 to 8 inches off the ground. His lunging foot misses the ball completely and only touches the ball after CL has caught part of the opposing player’s shin. Not even a foul for you?
@@Jonas-gl9ke it's football. It's fast. It's won in fractions of seconds and millimetres. That's the beauty of it. Slow motion replays present a fale reality that puts the game in the hands of the kind of people who would be traffic wardens.

It doesn't have to be a foul. It was reckless play so a yellow defo

Palace player should get 3 matches for his reaction. Game is gone to pot
in a season when VAR has been truly awful, that is the worst decision i have seen this season.
No, no, no, no, no, no amigo. That was when Liverpool travelled to Tottenham and had a disallowed goal that was very clearly onside and then we were issued simply an apology. That stopped us being unbeaten this season. That was the worst this season.
It's bad for sure but Diaz disallowed goal vs Spurs was a lot worse
The refs have payed you back 10fold , dont worry about that @Darwizzy_9
Believe me every time a decision goes to var it goes against everton , its so corrupt they're not even hiding it anymore
@@Darwizzy_9that was a mistake in communication, between var and the ref. This was ref and var thinking that challenge was a red card.
Don't blame VAR, blame the weak referee for not standing up for his own decision and instinct which was completely correct.
Blame both. The refs in VAR are atrocious and the ref on field was a coward.
Absolutely disgusting decision
Why not blame VAR…. They’re the ones that referred the referee back to the monitor and put the pressure on. It’s a given now that a referral to the screen is an overturn 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed. VAR is ruining the game but refs need to start using common sense and not feel under pressure from the ref panel when it goes to a referral. It is getting silly now. @@chunkyfxdls1878
VAR are ONLY supposed to intervene when there is a CLEAR and OBVIOUS error by the referee.
So VAR is 100% at fault.
They had NO legitimate reason to be taking action. Then we have BOTH the VAR and the referee making a diabolically bad decision.
Not even a foul.
VAR is destroying the game and the referee has absolutely bottled it and just gone with their decision.
What do you mean don’t blame VAR, if there wasn’t any nothing would’ve happened!!

The mob will shout that it's perfectly fine, but it was dangerous and reckless. It's at least a yellow card for that. I'd say it's not quite a red card because there was no "excessive force" or "brutality" as mentioned in the rules.
You clown it's a contact sport. And I'd tour going by the wver changing rules there was 0 excess force or malice in the challenge not to mention the contact was minimal so on them points it can't be deemed a straight red card just because studs are raised and Clyne should be called out for feigning ans exaggerating he never helped the situation. @@Crovon1
How they can't see the Andersen bear-hug on Beto ISN'T a penalty is beyond me. Jota brushed by Newcastle's keeper and falls down 2 steps later...pen. Player hekd back with two arms - nothing. Absolute joke.
Facts. Hojlund slightly pulled Rodri's shirt at Old Trafford and it was given for Man City. Shocking.
@@stephenalex4345 players shouldnt pull shirts though, thats pretty simple lol
Goalkeeper said it was a penalty for Liverpool. If a goalkeeper knocks one leg on to the other and causes Jota to trip it is a penalty. It does not matter whether Jota manages to take another step or does a somersault.
Any bear hug or shirt pulling common among todays poorly educated defenders should be a penalty. It is common these days for clubs to coach players how to do this without making it obvious but with VAR this should be picked up more often.
@@blairmeikle5192 but do you not see the inconsistencies in the refereeing?
Jota starts falling 0 steps later. It is hard to see from the first viewing angle on the telly, but from the replays you can see Jota stumbles with his left foot immediately after being clipped. A striker choosing to cheat would drag his right foot into the keeper and go down much sooner. The fall only looks odd because we are all watching Jota's right foot, and clipping the left in that situation is unexpected.
The championship is a great league - full of action and exciting good football. NO VAR.
i think the same thing is happening in european football that happened to american football.. where the NFL is just overly corporate, too focused on money, while tons of people prefer watching college football because its more pure and just about the love of the sport. people are going to turn away from the "top6" and big 5 leagues more and more as they look for something authentic
No VAR leads to even more dives, look at the FA cup 😂 it's an absolute shambles of dives and bad calls, even more so than PL
It's actually a yellow for Clyne for feigning injury.
Yet VAR did not consider the Anderson rugby tackle, with both arms wrapped around the waist of the Everton forward to stop him reaching the ball, worthy of a look?
At the time watching it live I said out load "Great tackle"...There was no malice in the challenge and the contact was so so minor...The slow mo has done for DCL here and between VAR and the ref yet again an incident that didn't require intervention has been fecked up!!!...Everton should appeal this defo bcoz to get a 3 match for this is hideous!!!...🙄🤔
Well, you were wrong then amd you're wrong now. That's a clear red.
It's a text book example.

The VAR official just decided he wanted Man City to have a goal, and threw common sense out the window and ignored the guidance for using VAR. Different teams, different rules.

I’d rather a ref get a foul wrong than someone watching it on a screen
Agreed. Would rather the referee got it wrong.
The ref was RIGHT THERE and saw nothing to penalise...
I was always under the impression that studs showing was always gonna be at least a booking and in danger of a red hasn’t that always been the rule.

I don’t think it’s a sending off but studs up (just saying) I’ve seen them given hundreds of times
Vinnie Jones has entered the chat lol. 10,15,20 years ago that’s a perfectly legal challenge. It wouldn’t have even made the highlight reel.
Agree with you studs up red card simple
@@marculinrise9914 Kavanaugh did not think so when he was in the VAR booth for the much worse studs high flying tackle that flattened Andy Robertson.
@@ComradeOgilvy1984 completely agree that was a worse tackle. It’s the incompetence of the officials that’s ruining the game
i disagree, its getting to the point where its impossiblr to make a tackle without fouling someone. its a physical sport and every player has studs on their boots sometimes theyre going to contact people thats just the way it goes. his foot was down, his leg wasnt extended, there isnt any way he could possibly have made a cleaner tacke in that situation. if we're suggesting he just has to not touch the opponenent and let him run away then what even is the sport anymore
The way things should work is that VAR is only used when the ref calls for it. To me this was 50 /50. The ref did not blow for it so no need to go to VAR. If the ref blew for it then fine. If the ref wanted a second opinion then and only then should VAR be used
The ref (Chris Kavanagh) is clueless. He made his mind up already despite being shown the replay many many many times.
VAR is there to correct mistakes. This could have been a yellow, barely a red. Dominic went in studs up and clipped the other player a bit... no malice, and he was unlucky to be sent off
You go over the ball and make contact the red is coming out. There is a way to make that tackle and keep your foot down and keep it safe. That could have been a catastrophic injury.
You people have obviously never kicked a ball in anger in your lives. Ask most people who have played at a reasonable level and they will call it for what it is, namely TACKLING.@@chrisjohnson3590
Although I totally agree that the game is going soft, I still see this as a bad challenge! He jumps in and goes over the ball with studs showing. I don’t think this challenge was as bad as others we’ve seen but it easily could have been if the Palace player was closer to the ball and was committed as well. I think it’s a fair red considering the rules of the modern game.
I'm giving you a red for that.
@@bushmonster1702 I wouldn’t bother with the red card, it will only be rescinded.
@raimesey Agreed! my daughters teammate broke her leg in half on a similar challenge. Momentum going in the opposite direction is a lot of force and the Palace player had his foot planted. Just a little more contact and it could have been really bad. I don't understand why people have such an issue with this red card. There is no reason to approach the challenge in that way. Keep your foot down and don't show your studs.
Why is no one mentioning Clynes actions in this
Seen kovacic make 2 bad tackles v arsenal earlier in the season 2 red cards and he stayed on the pitch
Watching it live it looked like a clean tackle. But as soon as I saw the slow mo replays, and the ref being asked to go to the monitor, I knew he was going to be sent off.
Just makes you wonder if VAR is armed with weapons, so if a referee disagrees, they get shot.
Which is why they`re too afraid to stick to right decisions in scenarios like this.
absolutely disgusting from VAR, hughes did a bad challenge on one of our players and guess what... it didnt get acknowledged by VAR at all
Dyche needs to moan like Klopp when he doesnt get his own way

@RoyJoyce873 true though, moans about decisions, forgets about all the ones that go his/teams way
If that was Harry Kane he would not have been sent off. But I don't know why Harry Kane would be refereeing an FA Cup game
How can the referee go to the screen, see the replay and still overturn his decision.
That's the puzzling thing that I don't get, what are they looking at.
@@trevorsaunders580 I believe they are looking at slow motion replays. Everything looks more intentional and dangerous in slow motion. Plus there is the psychological pressure of knowing his mate in the VAR booth looked at this several times -- do not want to embarrass anyone.
Personally, I think it is okay to ask for onfield review here, but generally slow motion should only be used when there is some specific detail that needs to assessed (i.e. was there or was there not contact at all). But "recklessness" should be judged at full speed from the best angle.
Check out yesterday’s VAR official’s stats as a ref vs Everton btw. Speaks in volumes.
If he caught the player then yes.. but he got the ball and barely touched the player regardless of a supposed reckless challenge. The game has gone mad
He did still catch the player though, and he went in with his leg straight, and followed through, out of control.
He ended up with the ball, he didn’t win it…..and barely touching is still touching…he wasn’t in control so I can see why given. That said, as not excessive or endangering (not that it “could be” endangering as that’s a weak argument for me, as football isn’t what ifs), I think I’d caution on that one.
So he did catch the player then didn't he muppet
@pryan9892 he was in control tho ... that was one of the slowest and most deliberate attempts to win a ball you'll see... no intention to injure whatsoever , disgraceful decision,
He still touched the player before the ball so it's a foul. Especially when that touch is studs up
On a lighter side, Sean Dyche should demand a replay of the fixture for that bad VAR decision!
Could of played for another hour neather would of scored
The thing is in my opinion as the gentleman in the studio pointed out, no one on the field appealed, only one half heartedly
I don't get the point in an onfield ref with shit like this happening
Spurs fan - generally cannot believe this decision. When I was watching the game last night I thought he was blowing just to go check on the player. I did not even think it was a yellow. When he made that challenge it reminded me of Ledley King, the way to hook a ball from a player is an incredible skill of defensive play as I saw last night. When he went to the VAR screen I was livid and I am not even an Everton fan. It is a disgrace that ONE.... VAR couldnt make a desicion.... TWO the ref did not have the bottle to go against the VAR screen check. If a ref thinks that this is a foul let alone a red card, then these officials and VAR reps should be suspended and reviewed.
You can't go over the ball like that to hook the ball mate, it's not a red but those tackles are dangerous
And Udogie’s two-footed lunge, running full pace from 20 yards, on Sterling against Chelsea was given a yellow. VAR then decided that was sufficient.
Bare in mind people, this is Everton. This premier league want Everton gone. Ten point penalty for a few million on interest payments, in a time where interest rates have gone through the roof?? Really?? And a sporting penalty for financial errors??? And also, why are Everton the only team not given a penalty this season? Funny that. It's as though the conspiracy theories are true!

The tackle was perfectly timed on this occasion.... but the tiniest of error would have broken the player's leg. I'm sure we've all seen examples very fast, motorway manoeuvres which have NOT resulted in a serious accident. In those situations, the perpetrator might brag about their F1 driving prowess but is that something we want to sanction or encourage? When an accident DOESN'T happen it doesn't necessarily lessen the recklessness of the action.
Football all about risks. Like you said tiniest of margins can result in injury but in that occasion there was no intent or aggression so should have not been a foul even less so a red.
Intent is not the only justification of a red card. While it might seem unfair, I can see why the card was given.
@@ifeoluwawinjobi5933 I agree, the studs were up, as they said themselves the player was endangered and it could have turned out really nasty

His boot is too high IMO, a lot of people are calling it a disgrace but if that goes directly into the shin then it's a different story and perhaps a broken leg too.

The Crystal Palace player who was involved in the incident caused this controversy by diving when there was minimal contact he should be the one they should look at more closely
An opponent comes flying in, studs first, the Palace player thought he was in for a clattering and instinct took over. Clear red
Zero intent if that's a red card then let's make football a non contact sport and use a 200 yard wide pitch so the players can't stand near each other
@@colinneile9955 doesn’t matter about intent, went in with studs first. That’s why it was a red.

How on earth the referees don't understand that we all understand?!
Everything seems much worse in slow motion and in still pictures?
Why have the good English referees become so bad with the use of VAR?
They are many times very bad at the VAR studio. And when the referee on the pitch is called to the screen they usually change their initial view, meaning a non-foul becomes a foul by looking those slow motions an still pictures!
After reviewing the incident, if it's not an absolutely clear and blatant foul, they should be brave enough to stand by their initial reaction.
The referee on the pitch is the main referee, or should be!
Watched Sheffield v Luton as a neutral, 27 Dec. Luton's 78th min equaliser (own goal) was a joke - Luton forward almost tearing the Sheffield defender's top off. Why not seen by VAR? Ridiculous.
Even the Palace players looked embarrassed. The game's gone. It's beyond a joke.
I'm a liverpool fan and it's ridiculous how that can be a red card but the challenge last season from Tyrone mings on gakpo with stud marks left on his chest was a yellow 😂 unbelievable
Wasn't Kavanaugh in the booth when Tierney gave Harry Kane a yellow for a much more dangerous flying stud high tackle on Andy Robertson? If the potential harm of a reckless tackle is a factor, then Tierney and Kavanaugh should already have been sent down to the Championship for remedial work.
Been far worse this season gone unpunished , it's a joke
I think VAR has been an absolute shambles this season, but that was potentially a centimeter away from being a leg-breaker, and I don't think that the decision is wrong
Never would of there was so little force and speed in his controlled lunge it would of not caused any damage. People who know the game know this. Clearly you don't....
Mind blowing that he gets sent off for this but Romero on Wilson was deemed fine 😂
It doesn't matter if he was "trying to wrap his foot around the ball", he went right over the top of the ball and caught the other player in the shin before his leg came down onto the ball. An inch to the right and he could easily have snapped his opponent's leg. It's a classic red card offence.
1st sensible comment I’ve seen so far he’s went in with his studs a foot of the ground while running we wouldn’t be having the debate if the opposition player was a few inches away it’s a leg breaker
I disagree, its not excessive force and there is no reason for it to bed a red card
First time seen it, red to me cant tackle like that
In my view, he endangered the safety of his opponent, which is a sending off offence. How can the opponent safely challenge for the ball in this case when CL has extended his leg over the ball towards the opponent and with his studs against the opponent's shin? @@CoasterManiac2000
He didn't take the player out, simple. If you're gonna give a red on not taking a guy out on a simple slide tackle the game is lost. No one can defend anymore.
Eden Hazard would have drawn a 100 fouls per game by your "definition". Bet you were not calling to protect him back then.
IDK, studs were showing, and unavoidable contact was made that could have injured the opponent. Therefore, it can be construed as a reckless/dangerous challenge. Btw, the Palace player was rolling around afterwards.
Evertonian for 64 years. I saw that on another channel and said hands up, that's a red.
Different angles, he klipped his shin pad slightly on the side with his heel studs. Brilliant tackle!
Dangerous ? Not when you're good enough to play at this level.
I don't really know what the term 'excessive' that they throw around relative to the action actually means. It's easy to say it but I have no idea what they mean by it. How would it be excessive, what quality would it need to be so? I'm not really sure what they are talking about.
I don't think it was that bad a decision. Granted, VAR should just piss off, but if he connects there it's a leg breaker!
You can't add 'ifs' into the scenario. IF one of the teams scored a goal, they'd already be into the forth round. The sports become a joke as it is.
@howardkitchen2302 I think you can, otherwise nothing other than actual broken legs would be a red card.
These presenters are a breath of fresh air. I can't watch ITV in Australia so haven't seen them much before.
No they are not. Take them with you back to whatever toilet country you came from
I don't follow either of these teams, so I'm not biased, but in general it is a tough one to get right.
I mean, if you go in with studs, but you're in control, then it should be no problem unless you hurt a player.
But if you slide in with your knee bent and take a player out with your shin it's just as dangerous (eg: like the DVB injury last year) where you have far less control; but somehow this is considered less dangerous because "no studs are showing".
Refs seem to have an obsession with studs showing, thinking it's the most dangerous thing ever, when really it isn't.
But in this case DCL did go in with his leg locked straight, and his leg was still straight after he clipped him, so I probably would call this a reckless challenge because he could have pulled out of it if he chose to. But he didn't.
For me, if a player slides in with studs showing, but bends his knee mid-slide to avoid hitting hard with his studs then it should be fine, but if they go in with their leg straight then it should be a red if they hit the player, or the player has to get out of the way to avoid injury.
I think the ref got it right on this occasion because DCL just didn't have any control, and he did actually hit the player with a straight leg, and followed through with the straight leg. If he'd been an inch to the left it could have been a serious injury.
Thanks for informing us you know jack shit about the game.
I think Will Hughes did say 'Harsh'...i think so too
Unpopular view. By the way Calvert-Lewin (CL) went into that tackle, IF he had made full contact it probably would have been seen as at least a yellow, borderline red. The issue here is not just CL's speed, it's the combined speed of him and the opponent. I think the rule is trying to deal with the potential outcome of these types of tackles and not what actually occurs. Even considering all that it's a harsh red, but players know if their foot is high with studs showing, you open yourself to the risk of a red card.
Spot on.
makes sense but you have to ref based on what has happened not hypothetic like what could have happened
There was no speed tho... he was fully in control , and no intent to injure or hurt his opponent .... disgraceful decision
@@barry3346 you need to re-read what I wrote
@pranavkumaran8358 no, because the idea is to try and prevent career threatening tackles or even using that type of action to scare other players. If you only ref based on outcome players would do exactly what happened in this match; Look as if you're going to tackle high with studs, then pull out, so like a fake bad tackle which will gain you an advantage. If you only ref on the outcome, it's too late in the process and the perpetrators will still do 'fake bad tackles'
If you compare this to Kai Havertz going studs through Sean Longstaffs knee which only got a yellow we are talking about 2 different sports. The inconsistency is worse than ever.
Key wording in rule is it serious conduct and excessive force , I highly doubt it is glancing blow , minimum impact on leg at worse should been yellow .
At first i thought it was a foul looking at the replay, but in real time he was coming from the side in a controlled gathering motion as opposed to a stamp
Not a foul for me
When you see VAR interference like this could it be someone trying to influence the game.
The action is reckless... if that foot connects with the shin he can break the guys leg. But I don't think the force was excessive at all - he wasn't moving that fast. I think a yellow would have been appropriate.
Definitely not a foul neither a red card. These officials are a joke.
Question to all fans? If a player jumps out of the way from a leg breaking tackle and avoids contact what's the difference in the tackle as far as wreckless goes?❔
Question 2, if someone tries to punch someone in the face but the other person ducks it, is the punch a red card?❔
@furrybear9416 Yes it's still a red card. They've tried to punch someone.
Studs showing over the ball, correct decision.
few cm to the right and if the guys leg was planted it's a leg breaker, can't be sliding in studs up like that tbh.

If no players protest, or anyone else inside the stadium for that matter, is it _really_ necessary to do a VAR check for a tackle? Kinda indicates that there was no issue with the challenge in the first place.
That’s the sort of decision and use of VAR that calls the whole system into question... Yes, studs are high, but he brushes with zero force. He’s practically come to a stop before making contact. If there was even a _slight_ bit of force in it, then absolutely a red card due to the height, but there just _wasn’t_ any force was there.

I also think the ref needs to explain these type of serious tackles to the manager. VAR in the NFL and NBA provides the opportunity to have a word with the ref. English refs are like Teflon…can’t be touched.
No you just have 3 minute breaks after every 20 seconds of play in the nfl 🤦♂️
I’ve touched Teflon on a many occasions over the years.
those leagues have the same problem. as an american the entire reason i got into football in my 20s is because it was the beautiful game, the worlds game.. the game flowed, the action never stopped, there were no commercials, no breaks for the players, just a nonstop display of entertainment. There was nothing like that in the USA. But that no longer exists in any sport i'm aware of. i find myself caring about sports less than i ever have in my life. theres no reason to watch football over the american sports i hate anymore so i just dont watch anything
NBA is just as bad.
Studs up, straight leg, shin height, always has been a booking.
i cannot believe this has been revoked, his foot is high, i don’t care if he meant to or not, he’s recklessly slid into that challenge and made contact, keep your foot on the floor so you don’t break a leg what a joke
Dont blame the Car. Blame the driver.
Its a "clear and obvious error"....by VAR!
I personally can understand it his leg was locked straight, studs were all on show which is in its self a yellow . if he had not missed his leg and hit it his leg would of been broken .
The only thing I can think is because he went in studs up with his foot above the ball, It shouldn't have been a red, but it is a dangerous tackle...
Tackling with studs up is considered dangerous. A studs up tackle is made when a player lunges into a tackle with a leg or both legs outstretched exposing the soles of their boots. Referees are encouraged to at the very least caution (yellow card) players who commit such challenges.
LIVERPPOL FAN HERE. THAT WAS NEVER A RED. THA WAS NOT EVEN A FOUL.
the fact that the entire palace crowd didnt react at all to the challenge says it all. not a single person in the stadium thought it was a foul
It looked bad on slowmo 😅 its going to be a RED fosho if ref were sent to watch the replay
If there wasn’t contact then why was the palace player rolling around like there was ?
Betto being wrapped up totally with two arms was an absolute penalty
lulz! U'd almost think someone had it in for Everton!
THATS A RED CARD. Studs up, dangerous place. Red card plain and simply. Doesn't matter that he doesn't make full contact with the player - its dangerous play.
How is THIS a red but Havertz against Newcastle not then? And I'm an Arsenal fan, so wtf
I seem to be in a small minority but I can absolutely see why it's given, foot raised and studs up, arguably endangering. And I am usually on the side that the game's gone too soft!
I'm well against VAR.
but that is a dangerous challenge at the end of the day, cant just give the red cards once injury's occur..
legs fully extended and boots up off the ground. that could have been a leg breaker!
Whilst VAR is in this is always going to be given as a red, i can understand this not being given on the pitch as in normal time it looks a great challenge.
