The two most memorable moments from this series were the Game #2 Reggie Jackson vs. Bob Welsh showdown and the controversial play in Game #4. MLB Films must have learned from NFL Films how invaluable the mic'd up coaches and players were for these productions. Tommy Lasorda, arguing with the umpires after that crazy Game #4 play, was entertaining as could be. I also liked the late Dick Howser, in Game #5, telling Brian Doyle after his overly-aggressive slide/dive into 3rd base "It wasn't really that close, you could have come in the other way...."
The Dodgers played well......The Yanks.......just had a certain something....Dent,Doyle, Beattie....average players who played way over their heads... Nettles made un-human plays........I like Lasorda....glad he won in 1981 even though I like the Yanks........How Jackson got away with the Sacrifice Hip..............
yep, goose broke his thumb and things were bad even before thurman was killed i was at the game after he died and it was so sad, people were in tears, once the captain passed so did the season.
Figurora and Hunter forgot how to pitch. Gossage getting hurt...nailed the coffin. Jackson got hurt...Munson's accident . Then they traded Rivers. But still won 89 games which is amazing after all that. 7th best record in baseball.........

Reggie Vs Welch in game two one of the great duels of all time. I'm 63 (24 when the series took place) and I remember it very clearly. Jackson was super upset because the runner was taking off on the pitch and it was a known fact that when guys ran when he was swinging, distracted the shit out of The Reg. Might not have made any difference but you never know.
Watch when Reggie strikes out, he looks like he’s in shock he didn’t come thru, because like no one else in October almost always did. Mr. Welch(rip)game 6 sir.
The interference was obvious, but of course, that should never have happened because Joe Brinkman, the second base umpire, should have ruled the play dead when Bill Russell intentionally dropped the ball on that soft line drive that Lou Piniella hit. Had Brinkman made the correct call there, then Piniella would have been called out and both Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson would have returned to the bases they occupied, and there would have been 2 outs with the score 3-1. Then after Brinkman blew the call on Russell's intentional drop, Russell made the next miscue on that play by not tagging Munson and stepping on second, which would have resulted in an inning-ending DP. Then unbelievably, they came within a hair of resuming the game after the argument without the correct number of outs, because the still had just one out posted, when there were two. First base umpire Frank Pulli finally straightened that out, then action was restarted.
Reggie's was a "Head Smart Play" by a World Champion Veteran - Could not happen to a better Manager Lasorda is the MOST overrated baseball guy of all time!

To me Nettles is the Yankees all time greatest 3rd baseman. Made the diving stab routine won more games with his glove than ARod ever did with his bat.
Nettles' mitt was a huge factor this series, no question about that! Dent, though, batted .417 with 10 hits and 7 RBI while Nettles hit .160 with one RBI.
