    The lock you found...I was on the USS Vulcan AR5 in1970. Look it up and see how close the arm and hammer looks. Cool find!!

    Michael, nice finds after a long day's hunt! The medal is British, I think. My Nanny used to nail a silver dime over the lintel of the front door when they moved into a new house, while Granddaddy nailed a horseshoe on the outside (they were share cropper farmers.) Usually neither lasted long, as my Granddaddy was a notorious drunkard and would soon steal the silver to buy more beer, and Nanny would chuck the horseshoe at his head....good times....NOT!

      Even a little is helpful,, which is all anyone can expect from another.
      Decades back when responsibility was a given, people returned home with their junk or threw it away in the proper manner. That helped in diminishing pollution. That's not the case with some in this generation, sadly enough, and as you said, not everyone has the luxury of driving here and there as they wish to in order to metal detect.
      Carrying your gear must be a real hassle unless you have a ride to those places. What some have done is to rebury big or heavy items they don't or can't carry back with them, so that might be an option for you. IF it's in a wooded area, leave it propped up against a tree for someone else who might be interested in having it.

      @rogergoodman8665 5 років тому +3

      From my "personal experience" bullets make nice large rounded holes, not tiny square ones!!! More likely than not the hole was made by a old square nail or spike. People back in the day used to nail coins in & above doorframes to commemorate something important to them. Similar to today's practice of sticking a coin in wet concrete, masonry work etc.

    • @truthbetold01
      @truthbetold01 5 років тому +2

      The square nail had not been in use for about 50 years by the time that coin was made though.

    • @rogergoodman8665
      @rogergoodman8665 5 років тому +2

      @@truthbetold01 : Your correct in the fact that square nails were not in common use in 1944 in most areas, but in rural areas they were still everywhere. I lived on a rural farmstead until 2011 that was built in the early 1800's & we had literally thousands of them in jars, buckets. People in rural areas tend to save everything for possible future use. Waste not, want not, but since the buildings on the property no longer exist, we will never know for sure.
