4th video I've seen today of his hammock, been waiting since dutch announced it. its really the perfect traditional style hammock for sure. so versatile.
Interesting that 2 nearly identical hammocks came out the same time with the Dream Hammock Sparrow first. Could be convergent evolution with the similar need driving the design or not. Nice to have new designs

The DreamHammock-Sparrow came before the chameleon. the chameleon "barrows" much from the DreamHammock-Sparrow. I thank you for saying so. I would hope that Dutch would say so as well. The only thing that I see as being truely new is the spreader bar mod to hang 2 hammocks from the same tree, without "stacking". Thanks for your true and honest review, I want to get your new book. Between you and "SHUG" I think you are the 2 kings of hammocks.
Purchased my Dream Hammock because of Randy's innovative features. Big fan of Dutch and use lots of his gear but don't really see anything in the Chameleon not offered on Dream Hammocks. Just saying.
I use all Dutchare hardware and straps but I use a Dream Hammock. I love my Dream Hammock. I used a Darien all through the rainforest of Panama and I use my Dream Hammock Sparrow in the Sequoias and other southern California mountains. Awesome hammocks! I dont know why but no one ever mentions Dream Hammocks. Glad you guys did.
How do you like this compared to the Envy, D? I've got an envy and about to get a chameleon only because Hammeck decided to become doctors or some crap ;) so I can't buy another. Chameleon a good comp?
I think so. The Chameleon is a great hammock. Another good comparison will be Dream Hammock. It all comes down to price and customization, really. Both those companies are competing head-to-head on very similar features.
Love your videos.. Quick question.. Does the BB XLC provide for a flatter lay than the Chameleon with its trapezoidal footbox or is it pretty equivalent since the Chameleon is 11' with a 58" width?

Damn, already raised 145k on the kickstarter, nice job. Might have to try it out someday but the last thing I need right now is more hammock gear, looks like a great system though.
I just slept in my Chameleon last night. It is a little shallower than others, and being an 11 foot, I think it works great. I felt nice and flat and didn't have my feet popping off the edge.
It's down. My host went belly up leaving me stranded. I'm sure I've lost content as well but I'm working with a backup and hope to get the site back up soon.
Look like it is just to warm for the jungle, the netting holes are too big and some tropical mosquitoes are small enough to get through. Its definitely not sandfly proof
hutzelbein Have you ever you ever use one of those in a sandfly infected jungle? I have seen the result of someone using those type of netting in the jungle of Borneo (not this product). He was all red and lumpy all over this body, bitten by both sandflies and mosquitoes .
Adrian J Nyaoi Well...noseeum mesh keeps out Scottish midges which are far smaller than mosquitos and pretty sure are the same if not smaller than sand flies. Perhaps you're referring to a mesh other than noseeum as that definitely keeps them out.
Stormcrafter Maybe you are right, but most mosquitoes that I came across that is made in the west are not really suitable for the tropic (ie Borneo), I use one that is locally made for the forest, a bit heavier and bulky but yet still airy enough. It keep out sandfly and mosquitoes. The sandfly we have here is very tinny and looking at that netting I am sure it will get through with little problem
No, I have not used my hammocks in the jungle. But what type of mesh do you suggest then? Afaik there is no net that is more tightly woven then NoSeeUm net. If you're right, you would have to use fabric instead of net. Not a good solution in hot and humid climates. If I were to go somewhere heavily infested, I would probably use an insect repellent in addition anyway.

hikehunter was dream around before Hammeck? I always thought Dutch borrowed from the Envy. It was his favorite hammock.

How is the hang angle of the hammock? I’ve found my DreamHammock to be too steep of an angle for my liking and am considering this one. THANKS!

Why shouldn't it keep out sandflies? It's the standard NoSeeUm net as sold by Dutch and Ripstopbytheroll. No-see-ums are the same thing as sandflies.
