    The link's to tooling used.....
Silverline Spanner set including 2 x spanners needed amzn.to/33zV4Jk £10.71
The magnet I could not find (You need this!) - amzn.to/3tA5yDf £6.99
    Amazon socket set amzn.to/3o5JUFH £38.22
Note the socket set isn't the same one as mine but at £38.22 that's a stonking price and the quality is still good for even an intermediate home mechanic !!
This is a video to show how to easily change a cam chain tensioner on BMW boxers.
Mine is a BMW R850R but this will also apply to any BMW in the R series.
    All parts are from Motorworks.co.uk

Recently purchased my R1150R and this helped me alot! I was wondering where i was hearing this knocking sound on start up.. Put the new tensioner in, took me around 20-30mins as well. Thank you for the input and making this video! No more knocking sound!!!

This could prove beneficial to those that have a BMW R series for sure.

Yes, the chain tensioner is a common issue with the R series👍

That’s a good satisfying and worthwhile job done. I had the satisfaction of being a mechanic most of my life and getting job satisfaction out of things like this. Long live fettling.

yours came out so easy.....i've been on 3 hours and i'm sick, I couldnt remove the threaded cylinder because the spring is too high and still inside. very frustrating. oh and the large o ring on the throttle body intake was very large with age, and wouldnt go back, despite silicone grease, probably worth getting one before doing the job. Good video

I love that you've bought an older bike, I think it's a great looking bike, never considered a BMW as a future bike but now you've got me thinking 🙂

Thanks for that, really nice of you to say. I think many wonder why I have bought it, but I really like it👍🍻

@@exeterrider I don't get why it would be controversial, for what you paid it really shows you don't need to spend thousands and thousands to buy and have fun on a big bike.

Nice confidently presented video , and thanks for introducing me to the comprehensive Motorworks online shop . NZ doesn't have places like these for BMW parts. Being from the UK originally I don't mind ordering from NZ ,and have done so from Nippy Normans previously .

Thanks, yes I have no ties with Motorworks but they have been very good so far to me. Thanks for watching and I hope your getting on OK over there 👍🍻

Nice and satisfying when you successfully do a job like this yourself. Hate to think what BMW would have charged and guess they would have fitted a crappy spring tensioner oem part again. Recently renewed my socket sets. Went for Bahco 1/2 & 3/8 and Draper expert for 1/4 as do fair bit of spannering 👍

I'm just getting back into it. Part 2 I change the paralever and that was a real game to sort out due to siezed drive shaft splines 🤔😜

Will that hydraulic tensioner be available for my r1200gs lc 2014 from motor works. Thanks

I couldn't tell you. Give them a ring, the 1200 is probably a different set up, and may not need a tensioner

Starter cover can be easily removed to save it from scratches and tapping it every time spanner move.

      True👍

In fact, I cancel my advice. After removing starter cover someone can bridge exposed live wire to earth and get hurt. Never initially thought about this.

My F800 are engine doesn't look anything like the one being worked on. Would anyone be able to show me a picture of where the cam chain tensioner is on a 2011 BMW f800r

Good video. I have a R1200GS Adventure from 2010. Is this video for me as well? I just have trouble finding where to buy one these days.

Pricey I agree, but overrated I would have to disagree. I think they are brilliant bikes hence why I bought one 👍
