    This is such a great reminder. As an intermediate player myself, I find lately I'm chasing positions and thirds. Corey just played some super soulful stuff out of a single major scale position. He also reminds us all to bring the feeling and play it like you mean it, even when the content can seem a little vanilla. That feel makes it.

    Yo man, I've been using your channel for yonks now, some things are really hard for me, specific usage of pinkies (as i don't have them on either hand) and a really short bloody thumb. I'm a big blues player/fan so i do alot of improv and playing alone which your channel is great for. I just wanted to say after all this time, just so you know, you're makin me one hell of a guitarist.. One of my favourite things to play is SRV's cold shot solo. Sexy as hell, also found from you. The best thing is the doctors that took my pinkies after the OP said i'd never play an instrument, well we proved them wrong! been playing like 13 years now.. thanks for everything along the way dude.

    What is cool about this is that right next door is another C major scale which gives some other choices. So root on 8 then over to the D at 5 on the A string, E at 7 etc.. Once I made that connection I felt like there were more choices for this kind of progression without really having to think to much. Another great tidbit Corey, thanks!

    Corey Chameleon once again! Your skills as super dangerous session player, live performer and exquisite teacher continually surprise me. Some lessons I hear Knopfler, some the three kings, some JJ Cale, some -- fill in the blank -- but always through your unique and expressive voice. This lesson conjured the melodic greats like Larry Carlton and Robben Ford and so once again, not only do I learn awesome guitar stuff from you, but great humility and gratitude. I strive to find my own unique voice on the instrument like you so masterfully have. Thanks for your continued generosity in delivering these lessons. The effort to prepare & produce these is not lost on me. Your hard work is never in vain my friend!

    Wow i just found your channel through your blues rock videos. Your videos are great. I’m and intermediate and I find it hard to find stuff that I can learn from. Not because I know it all but because so much is for beginners but I’m finding some new stuff in your videos. I really like how you said the chord tone exploration isn’t always the way to go. I think that’s important that soloing/improv is not all perfect cut and clean.

    I recall being around a few a lot machines in Vegas and other places where the “music” they play is basically just major arpeggios. That’s often what I hear when I play straight arpeggios. This lesson is helping me get away from the slot machine sound so to speak. 👍🏼

    • @coreycongilio
      @coreycongilio  3 роки тому

      That’s funny because, apparently all machines in casinos play in the key of C as it’s said to be the most pleasant of all musical keys

    Nice riff a bit Bensonesque on the start of the progression, pleasant change and so useful to get out of the pentatonic world from time to time, i remember seing Matt Schofield saying if he had missed something in his formative years it was the major scale, it is the source of so many things and definitely not to be neglected, a great start down this road from Corey, many thanks.

    The statement you made @11:26 is so true. I am a self taught guitar player. Back in the younger days i composed my licks or solos based on ear, preference, and major scale of the key in am in. I love it! But, guitarists from others fellow bands treated me like an alien. They mostly played based on full theory like triads, chord tones etc. But not always sounds good to me. In fact sometimes i think it sounded more technical then melodic. Thank you so much for showing what i did all these years weren't alien at all🙏

      I play exactly the same. Have always been an 'ear' player. However, after 30 years I find my solos all sounding the same so am starting to look at theory playing a bit more, as a way of opening up more sonic options for me. The challenge, as you say, is to be able to add in arpeggios and chord tone target notes without it sounding like an exercise!
