The record for the largest comeback in NFL history was just broken by the Vikings against the Colts, overcoming a 33 point deficit. However, the title is "Greatest Comeback," not "Largest Comeback." Considering that this was a playoff game and a backup quarterback (Frank Reich) completing a comeback of this magnitude against a Hall of Famer (Warren Moon), I still think this is the "Greatest Comeback" in NFL History.
I forgot that the Vikings have the record for largest comeback. But in my defense, it just seemed uneventful. And honestly, forgettable, since it was by two run-of-the-mill teams. It's not fair to say, but IMO, it is what it is.
I was a huge buffalo fan 12 yrs old watched the whole game in the living room while my mom was in the kitchen cooking spaghetti. I remember I was bummed at half time. The second half I kept telling my mom they scored again! They scored again! I was starving waiting for the spaghetti to get done and when it was finally done it was late in the fourth quarter but there was no way I was eating until it was over. It was a day I'll never forget.
I was 11 years old. I remember this like it was yesterday. If this were in today's NFL Frank Reich would've been the most coveted free agent the next year and would've signed a huge contract. But he didn't. He stayed with us. Oh and one more thing....... Bills Mafia baby.
Reich was a smart QB, but wasn't a gunslinger or have the arm that Kelly had. He did become the starter for the expansion Bill Polian Carolina Panthers 2 years later. But he was what he was a solid #2 QB, and why leave a Super Bowl level team?
I and many believe this was the final nail for the Oilers’ tenure in Tennessee. Though many also think it was the game the following year against the Chiefs.
We had this game on in our break room at work. Luckily, my lunch started just after half-time. My lunch ended with the Bills having scored a few TDs and as I went back to work I watched Warren Moon throw the worst screen pass in the history of the NFL and I said, “The Bills are going to win this.”
I was there. Ninth row. It was great. I really don't remember anyone leaving. I do remember that towards the end the stairs to all the different sections of the stadium had people sitting on them. Crammed with people. I heard afterward that the gates were open and people were pouring in. I think security went to watch the game. I can't blame them.
This game. Always a GREAT example for young athletes no matter the sport. As cliché 'sh as it is; NEVER, EVER GIVE UP....FIGHT TO THE END...A game that belongs to the ages....
For all you Vikings fans. We had this title for so long. It was literally one of the only things that made us relevant. Enjoy the title. Y’all earned it. But the early 90’s bills was special. Don’t forget that.
I flew from Phila to Sacramento and drove a rented van down to San Fran listening to this game on the van radio. I stopped somewhere along the way at a bar and watched a little of it on TV. I remember the bar having peanut shells completely covering the floor. The next day I took my first trip driving down the coast highway and Big Sur to Santa Barbara. I'll always remember the trip very well in part because of remembering listening to this great game on the radio that day. When Frank Reich became the offensive coordinator for the Eagles and won the Super Bowl in 2018 I had a special love for the guy via that connection.
Imagine how Jim Kelly felt after Reich led this comeback.A back up QB kicking ass!!......it must have crushed him worst than The Orange Crush from Denver....I am from Texas and appreciate a good/great comeback even if they beat a Texas team....Good job Reich and the bills
The beginning of the end for Warren Moon in Houston, another playoff loss to Joe Montana and KC a year later, and Moon was packing his bags and was Minnesota bound.
I was 29 years old when this game was played. It started as a terrible day. My fish tank leaked about 12 gallons of water on my living room floor. I was cleaning it up watching the first half in disbelief cursing the whole time as the bills were getting demolished. The second half of the game I was jumping up and down celebrating almost every play. Somehow the fish tank mishap didn't seem so bad now!! LOL!! Incredible comeback that I will never forget!!
To all men in a fucked up relationship or marriage this game is a perfect metaphor for life, it's not about the first half of life, it's about the second half! ✌🙏🇺🇸😎

I remember this game. My dad was a Dolphins fan, and I was a Giants fan. We were watching and it was a blowout. He said come on, this is over, lets go clean the basement. A while later I came up to get a drink, and hollered down to him "THE BILLS HAVE COME BACK"!!! He ran up and couldn't believe it. So we watched the 4th quarter in shock.
The Greatest Comeback in NFL History but mostly the greatest choke in NFL history. Houston taking a nap on the onside kick and stupid interceptions in dangerous field position

Sucks that the Bills never win the super bowl with Kelly so it’s bittersweet for both teams. The good old football days, now it’s just flag football.

I was living in Florida ( Dolphin territory) and got the game even though it was “blacked out” in Buffalo. The bar was filled with Dolphin ( Oiler) fans and they were brutal the entire 1st half, laughing and joking about how the Bills were nothing without Kelly and Thurman. By the 3rd quarter, I looked around the bar, which was about empty, and all you could here besides the mayhem in Rich Stadium, were crickets !! Lol One of the best days of my life !!!
Hope this game was consolation enough for Bills fans, because the sting of losing 4 straight Super Bowls makes this accomplishment seem almost pointless.
Jim Kelly and the Bills had a decade long string of playoff wins, AFC East titles and AFC Championships. It was a fun ride every year going to the Super Bowl. I wouldn't trade that ride for a one and done Championship season.
So many comments from people saying they watched it on TV. They must have all been in other cities outside Buffalo. The game was BLACKED-OUT by the NFL from being shown in the Buffalo, NY area.
Some Buffalo bars had illegal cable boxes to show the game. I was at my grandparents house on Grand Island because they had a satellite dish that got the game. It was blacked out in Buffalo though.
Sadly the Houston/Tennessee got revenge with the music city miracle. The ball was thrown parallel not forward but the feet of the receiver was ahead of the passer. Hence, forward pass.
