Mosky Audio King Rat distortion

- The new 'M Series' from Mosky features several modern takes on classic circuits, including this one that's based on several iterations of the Proco Rat.
The 'King Rat' features the standard three knobs found on all Rats, plus a toggle switch to jump between vintage 'LM308' tones, and more modern, 'OP07DP' based, Rat distortion. And if that's not enough for ya, there's also a selector knob to choose between four different Rat versions!
All of this amazing versatility is housed in a pedalboard-friendly, 125b enclosure with top jacks, and can be yours for only around £50! Insane. 🤯

For everyone wondering if there is two seperate chips inside (LM308/OP07DP). Sadly no. There is a chip labeled 24A30CM TL082CP on the board, a JFET OP Amp.
Thanks for the insight! 🙂👍🏻
So it has neither?
@@JustinEthnostate my best guess is that the chip inside somehow emulates the 2 vintage chips. Nevertheless, that should not keep anyone from giving this a chance. It does a pretty good job at it, I 've had tons of fun and no issues so far !
That’s the same Jfet op amp the OCD uses.
@@alexanderm6049 I love it too
Definitely the ultimate Rat clone, and for only $40, it's a no-brainer.
I'm definitely with you on that one!
Better than the black rat?
Broooo this shit sounds great!!!!
Great demo again Phil. I've never owned a Rat and keep thinking I should get one and this could well be the one I go for; so many features and very affordable.
Cheers! 👍🏻 Yeah, this is really great. I thoroughly recommend getting one!
Youve sold me on one of these, i love my big box rat but this'll fit on my pedalboard easier and I've been curious to try other rat types anyways. For $40 this is an absolute steal I can't wait for mine to arrive.
Just got it, compared it to the rat reissue. I dialed in tones on the 90s rat and then tried to match those sounds on the Mosky. They are extremely close. I noticed the Mosky had just a little more body on it so on average i had to turn the tone knob up a little more on the Mosky to match the proco. Mosky has a little more gain to my ears so i lowered the gain knob a little more than I usually would to match. Vintage mode 2 is spot on. The clipping sounds just slightly smoother on the proco, just slighty less fuzzy. I would say it's 95% there which I'm more than happy with, and then there's 3 other modes to explore! All in all, totally worth it if you're on the fence about it.
I’ve had the original Rat for many years, this pedal sounds just as great and does some extra things to, don’t know if will last as long, only time will tell.
Wow, thats a lot of pedal for like $40, could not even build it that cheap!
Loved the nod to Melvins' Revolve. Don't know if it was intentional, but it did fit very well XD cool demo, btw!
Not intentional at all, as I don't really listen to that band. But thanks! 😝👍🏼
amazing rat clone with a lot of spice. rery nice !
Great demo, just the right length to cover a dirt pedal. I have the Donner Nlavk Moyse or whatever it is they call it. I'd like to leave it in that gigging board set up. This looks like a nice second clone to try. 8modes in total! It'd probably set off my decision paralysis, lol.
I bet this much larger Mosky King Rat is much much better then the Mosky Mini Black Rat pedal I own. Is it ?
Nice! Could you review the Crunch Pro model? Mosky's mini crunch has become one of my favorite pedals and I'm curious to see if the Crunch Pro is also great
Yeah, don't worry! I'm working my way through them all, gradually! 🙂👍🏼
@@PedalExperiments nice, thanks! The crunch pro has also the best design of the bunch, imo. Would be a nice addition if it's good.
Mine arrived and can just say it's worth every cent a bargaibn. Sounds GREAT,although the filter isn't the best
this Rat is amazing
I have the green screamer of that series, brilliant pedal. The only reason I'm not going for this rat is that I like the proco design, so I'm gonna go with Little Bear R.Attack, it's a silly reason and I gonna lose the chip switch mosky have but whatever
Purchasing Now!
So inexpensive too……
It's impossible to justify NOT buying one! Enjoy. 😎👍🏻
Have you been able to compare this to a real rat, or even something like the joyo splinter, or any other clones?
And how do you feel it stacks up against them?
In a bind trying to work out wether to get the demon fx fat mouse and golden rat (fat rat and iriginal rat clone with a proper lm308), the joyo splinter, or this pedal,
at the current rate i might just buy all 4 to test - then keep the 2 i like and give my dad and mate one each 😂
No, I haven't tried it against a real Rat, unfortunately.
I would say this holds up very well compared with other clones, and covers a wide range of distortion tones. I just wish the gain knob was more linear, with a gradual decrease in saturation at lower settings, rather than the vague, on-or-off nature that it has.
@PedalExperiments thanks , I appreciate the information. Its difficult trying to choose from different versions of pedals but at least at this price it's worth trying it out
Keep up the good work.. really enjoyed the huge 40-odd pedal pedalboard video! I've collected a ton of pedals over tge last few years but never bother to put it all togeather as abig single board...
But your video inspired to order a few powersupplies and about 30 new cables from thomman lol
@conordyer2307 Haha, why thank you! I'm glad I was able to inspire some creativity!
I'm overdue for updating my own board, actually... 🤔
Is it analog or is it digital?
It's analog. 👍🏼
Does anybody know if there's a big difference between this and the super rat?
I hadn't heard of that one before. Looks like a few Chinese companies lend their name to that pedal, including Mosky.
It looks like a pretty standard Rat clone, but with a toggle switch for three modes that - I assume - change the clipping.
As far as the differences go between that and this King Rat; I highly doubt there are many. Certainly not enough to be worthy of a shoot-out, in my opinion.
Most Rat style distortions sound pretty similar, tbh.
£50 for this Mosky King Rat is great...but you'd probably be just as happy with an ENO Myomorpha for £25.
Love this channel
Thanks a lot! I aim to please. 😁
wow-wow.. WOW!!
That's one low down dirty rat, been on fence for a while, not any longer, really good sounds better than a big muff to my ears although technically not the same.
They aren't a million miles away from each other, tbf! I find that if you scoop all the mids out of a Rat, it sounds very similar to a Muff, and similarly, if you add mids to a Muff, it gets closer to a Rat. 😄
