Thanks, Leon. I was just looking at the Republican Romans as I just found my old copy of the Osprey book Armies of the Punic Wars. I had some 15mm DBA guys, but they are lost in the pile of no return.
Thank you very much. I've enjoyed painting the figures and reading the histories I've had. In my latest book, Athens just capitulated and Socrates is having his trial.
Thanks, Mark. The cloaks 1. Primed Mahogany with a Mr.Hobby primer. 2. I base coated them with a Americana color called Antique Maroon. 3. First highlight was another Americana color (which I think no longer is sold) called Brick Red. 4. Second highlight was Cherry Red. 5. Dark chocolate paint wash (basically dirty brown water). 6. Re-highlight with Cherry Red.
Thanks for the kind words. Good point about the poses, which I should have mentioned in the video. The poses are pretty static. Right arms have spears at the ready and attacking, a few different sword hands. The guys in the linen cuirasses mostly have the shield arm on the body but a few have a separate shield army. Breast plate guys have both arms separate. Heads were fiddly to get on certain bodies because of the length of their mullets. Helmet crests were separate too.
Thanks, Mr. Monkey farmer. I suggest doing 4 or 6 guys at a time (however big your stands will be) to stay motivated. Make sure they line up. Leave the command until last when yo know what you're doing with the colors. Newb mistake is doing the coolest guy first. You could also do the back ranks a little half assed if you want too. They are the first ones eaten by the Carthaginian Octopoid level 10 psykers with meltaguns anyway, right?
I like how the shields turned out. Gotta have a movement tray. Even if it isn't sexy.
Thanks, man. Remember the stone age days of WFB and moving every guy individually? Who says teenagers are smart?
Great work my friend. I Just started some Republican Romans.

First class Spartan figures, amazing paint job!😍😍👍👍
Thanks very much, Phil. They were a lot of fun to paint.
They turned out great. A really nice looking unit.
Cheers, Anthony!
Looking very smart there James. Love units that have proper rank structure like this!
Thanks, Cal. I had to mess around the ranking up a bit, but my wargaming OCD would not allow them be all mish-mashy. Especially not Spartans. lol
Dude awesome hoplites! Great work on these, great inspiration for me. Also thanks for the shout out!
Thank you very much. I can't recommend the Victirx stuff enough. Doing the Republican Romans now and they are going great.
Nice spartans. True warriors, nobody dared messing with them, not even Alexander.
Thanks, Lucian. I think the Spartans can be seen as the pinnacle of European martial discipline.
Nice and clean, James! Well done!
Cheers, Josh. They were a nice little break from the grey and brown of WW2.
Amazing Work dear James!

They look so good James,I'm working my way through some Celtic warriors
Thanks, Justin. Have fun with the Celts. You can let your imagination go wild with them.
Great colors, James. Please tell me what you used for the red/maroon cloaks. All the best!

@@jvcpaints Thanks James. Most appreciated.
Very good looking Spartans James.
Cheers, Cristoph!
They look really cool mate. Working on Pompeys legions myself.
Thanks, Paul. A lot of Republican Roman armies on the go out there. I'm a bit tempted myself to be honest.
Cracking job James they look excellent mate
Cheers, Sean.
Those look really good… are the figures very posable or it’s limited like that.

Nice, I’ll have to start on my 200 Romans haha. So not looking forward to it
