Oh yes, I had forgotten about that. My grandma did that for me as a young child. Put the 4 nails in the wooden cotton spool. I would make metres of the stuff but until now didn't know what it was called. As kids we would use it for heaps of things, like playing elastics, tying in hair, using as jewellery but never sewed it to anything. I'm going to go make myself one again, for me and show my 6 year old granddaughter how to do it. Oh the memories and what fun, thank you
Hey, you're here even if you're not... Thanks for not leaving us all entirely alone for weeks.... Never know what ideas we might come up with without you supervising us and guiding our creativity 😎
When I was a little girl, I made a home-made I-cord "machine" by nailing 4 tiny brad nails to the top of an empty wooden thread spool. It was time consuming but fun. I used scraps of thin yarn and a small crochet hook and made I-cord, all while running from wolves, 8 miles to school! It's true. Except for the wolves. And it was only 2 miles. Thank you A & C for another relaxing visit and several LOLs.
My dad used a large wooden spool and some headless nails that he hammered into the top leaving about a centimetre or two standing proud of the top of the spool i am sure that there were more than four nails! I wrapped the yarn around the nails in a certain pattern and used a crochet hook to make the cord that came out of the bottom of the spool. Gosh that is about sixty years ago . The cords were then attached to my younger sisters mittens and fed through their sleeves so that they would never misplace them. Well hardly ever. I have a vague recollection of making coasters as Christmas presents too. Thank you for triggering some happy memories! 🤷🏼♀️👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🤔😘💞💕😘💞💕🙋🏼♀️
My father used to say he walked five miles to school, through hip deep snow, and it was UPHILL both ways! Lol. Thanks for a wonderful visit. You both look wonderful, which is so good to see. 🙂🙂🙂
8 hours to get to school and run from wolves!! 🤣🤣 and the way Arne said that so matter-of-factly...I could just picture it..you both are hysterical...thanks for the laugh! Maybe a video with just the i cord machine by the fireplace would be relaxing..like when Arne just knitted with no talking. Be well. Much love!
We used to use four finishing nails driven into a wooden thread spool and a small filet crochet hook to make Icord when I was a child.a one ounce fishing sinker was tied to the end as a weight. Wow. I really feel old now.
We had the plastic, hand held, version of the this as kids and we called it spool knitting. My brother used to do it while watching sports on TV. (My Mom gave it to him, to he keep his hands busy and stop him from fiddling around with all of her breakable glass, knick-knacks.) Needless to say, we ended up with a lot of i-cord, cause he watched a lot of sports and other TV!! haha! Thank you for another great video.
A Knitting Mill (icord machine) is an absolute MUST for any crafter👍. The icord has so many versatile uses! I've had a blue Prym Knitting Mill (mini) for years and looooove it😍! These days I've stash dived and dug out some crochet mercerized cotten and the immediate plan is to 'paint' a flower bouquet i 3D, a wall-hanging piece. My latest creation was a GOOD LUCK greeting card - on the front I had outlined a 4 leaved clover, and using a hot glue gun I attached a green icord. It looked amazing and was very well received. Was once given a great tip for using the mill: don't hold the yarn. You might risk holding it too tight (and make damage to the needles). Just make sure the yarn runs freely and of course keep an eye on it not tangeling 😉 Yet a brillant episode! Thank you so much Keep it up! Dille 🇩🇰😘
Thanks so much for another great video sharing your creativity and humour with us all. Would love to have a “slow tv” episode of one or both of you making i-cords with your knitting mills.
Hello Arne and Carlos. I love the slippers. The I cord machine is brilliant. I used to make it when I was little with my Nana. I never knew what to make with it when It was finished. Now I do. Thanks for your video, it was fun. See you soon guys. Take care xxx
We had a toy, similar to the spool and nails, called a Knitting Doll. She has a cute folkloric painted dress and kerchief, and a crown of four (nails?). We made yards of very skinny I-cord and then wove it into lanyards. Rennie St Stephens church in Glasgow, Scotland, built a giant, many posted i-cord loom-like structure and invited visitors to weave a row or two for peace. They ended up with a chancel-spanning tube-like mobius. A very fun interactive project!
ah yes , 8 miles , uphill both ways through the snow... That's what i tell my Grandchildren....lol The slippers look so cozy and you have given me some ideas for i-cord . Lovely to see you both, enjoy your week !
Just saw this video. Thank you Arne and Carlos for sharing your creations. And for the laughs. I have the same i-cord machine, but wasn't very successful the first tries. The idea of making cables is intriguing though and worth trying. I also have the prym maxi. Stay healthy and have a good week. 🥰🤗
I love the iCord mills, so much fun. I usually add a 'core' to mine when milling thread. Para cord or the cotton/poly stuff you find in the diy drapery section of your craft store works great. Then you have a stiff iCord that will not compact as much when you make baskets or hot pads or whatever :) Thanks again for the wonderful video.
Such a low key relaxing video. A few years ago I knit a garter stitch sleeveless seater. I made a spiral with wandering tail on one side of the front. Many people give me compliments whenever I wear it.
The slipper design is so sweet and it’s never too early to start Christmas gifts. Carlos, I think you had the I-Cord at the “hypnotic setting”..but it was nice to see how it picks up the wool! So much quicker than doing it manually That was a fun video and take care 🇨🇦 ❤️
When you mentioned using the I-Cord for faux cables I had the idea to take 3 long pieces and braid it to use on a sweater as a unique edging.....so many ideas and uses.
I've really enjoyed your slipper booties patterns. I knit a pair for my husband and myself. His were two color and mine had duplicate stitch with your rose design. So snuggly and comfortable.
I have your 30 slippers book and have made 5 pairs so far for my husband. He loves them and says they are by far the cosiest and the most comfortable slippers. I use ‘sock stop’ on the soles to prevent slipping. Jamieson’s wool from the Shetlands is a great alternative for UK knitters and felts beautifully and comes in a wide range of beautiful colours. All five pairs are quite worn now and a couple have even been darned so I guess a new pair may be required soon. XAngela
@@theresacortez1374 Sock Stop is a liquid that comes in a squeezy bottle in a variety of colours and you simply drizzle it on the sole of the socks or slippers and it dries to form an anti slip surface. Ready made slipper socks usually have it on them. It works really well and I’m sure you can buy it from Amazon.
@@angelaevans8632 Thanks! that sounds really cool, thank you again for taking the time to explain it to me, and can find it on Amazon. I have another question, about yarn, do you know of a yarn available on Amazon that's comparable to Jamieson's? I'm in the U.S.
Hi, I do my i cord by DPNS...for many years. I made a "K" in a wool afghan square...for my daughter Katrina. She has that blanket still, its felted now because she accidentally washed it. lol. But, I got the idea from some book I saw, some pattern. But I really do need that device. I'll check on line cause now I have a Grand daughter and I need to make her a blanket with different squares now, since her mom has one. Thanks for all the videos! hello from Tohajiilee New Mexico :)
Brilliant guys. Love the idea of icord on jumpers and initials on slippers. How clever. Think every home needs an icord machine.👍. Hope your jolly holly has given you lots of rest, walking and reading time. See you soon and cannot wait. 🍰
Hi, I always make my I-cord! by knitting, some time ago you was introducing the I-cord machine , I purchased one also , I am making small rug . It’s fun to make it , thank you 🙏
Love the slippers, now to figure who and their sizes. My Christmas knitting starts in July, now is the time to decide on gifts, order all patterns and yarns.
I have made 5 pairs slippers now from the slipper book, I found a great source for Rauma yarn to ship to Hawaii. I love love the slippers, and will look forward to not having to knit the icord any longer once I order this little gadget. Take care you two!
I still haven't finished the mobile phone purse I'm knitting as a mother's day present - in this part of the world, mother's day was a month ago. I'm thinking if I'm going to make Christmas presents I better get started soon so thank you for these gorgeous slipper ideas!!!
I woke up remembering today was Arne and Carlos! 👏 I have made one pair of felted plain slippers but yours are much more playful. Will definitely add this to my wishlist 🪄. Quick 🤗 to Helmer snoozing on the sofa too

Thank you. I am very interested in getting a machine like yours. I remember as child having a “Knitting Nancy”. That is a very nice ash tray perfect idea.
I liked the i-cord machine you are using that I was able to purchase, and I like it much better than my old one. Arne‘s „we had to run from wolves“ killed me 🤣🤣 love you guys ♥️
😃
When we were kids our mom put four nails in a wooden sewing thread spool to make I cord. Worked great but very old fashioned!
When it works, it works!
We also used wooden cotton reels with panel pins in the top. I know it as French Knitting though, not icord.
I still do this with a bobbin and for tacks, with the grandchildren
A "celtic knot" done in i-cord would be neat! I think the rhythm and gentle clicking of i-cord machine is relaxing.
Great idea!
Good idea!
Ooh! I love that idea!

Yes! I would love an i-cord special too!
The sound reminds me of someone sewing on a treadle sewing machine. It’s very calming!
We should do an ASMR video with the knitting mill sound.
An I-cord trivet would be very lovely and practical.
😊
I bought a Prym I-cord knitting mill and I can't stop making icord now!! Sooooooo much fun!

😂Young at heart!
Loving how the yarn is so like the colour of your lovely shirt, Arne! Love to you both and the dogs x
Thank you Eizabeth.
I-cord ASMR? Yes, please! Definitely a trigger for me 😴

Yes, especially if you have a sweater that you've stopped wearing.
The icord machine is very neat! Thanks for sharing your pattern ❤️And I am happy you both have your own machine🥰

It makes it a lot easier and quicker, and calmer and more fun!😂
I am getting that I-cord machine for sure, and the pattern! Thanks 😊.
You're welcome!
When I was a little girl in school we made knitted cord with a wooden spool with four small nails in the top.

I liked the i-cord machine you are using that I was able to purchase, and I like it much better than my old one. I’m going to make an entire garment out of the i-cord because I have a lot of a fingering weight yarn that I no longer want to knit with because the plies split quite easily. It was interesting to learn they have other i-cord machines and if so I will try to purchase those as well here in the U.S.
That will be an impressive garment, we would love to see it when you finish!
I made several pairs of slippers from your book for my son for christmas, so he might have extra pairs for guests to his home
Great idea!
Love that most interesting! Like colour brown with the grey! Love all yarns! Xx 😘

I'm going to dig out the old eyecord machine my sister gave me years ago!
Have fun!
I ordered an I cord machine and can’t wait to create new fabric using my stash yarn.
