    Great series! like the "first Flush Diverter" feature! here in Denmark, we have tons of leaves and sediment building up in the gutters.

    Idea for an option for the bottle seal would be to put a back flow preventer where you reduce from 3" to 4". Put it in line so water can flow down but as it fills the lower "junk water" tubes the water will push it shut and should divert. Might have to use a spring type due to the vertical application. But if the bottle is functioning for you, why fix what ain't broke and your idea is a lot less costly!
    On drain the tubes, just drill a few small holes (like 1/16") into the face of your cap or even sides of the elbow. To help with keeping the threads clean, keep an old toothbrush laying their behind the pipe and you can use it to sweep the threads out. You might also want to experiment with wiping some vaseline on the threads of one cap. It should hel lube the threads and might help prevent some of the junk sticking. if it seems like it sticks just wipe it off.

    Great video series! Thanks for sharing. Have you, or could you, do one on the plumbing to connect the tanks together and vent them? And one on how you hooked it up from the tanks to your filter system?

      Sherry: First of all thank you, I have not finished the video over the plumping to connect the tanks. However I should have it up within the next couple of weeks. I will also show how I vented the tanks. To vent the tanks all I did was loosen the lids a little, that allowed the air to escape while keeping the lids securely in place.

    Once again: excellent video! A few questions: how would the trapment of impurities work with the 'barrel system' (behind you)? Why did you opt to go with the PVC pipes: it seems like more work? I'm looking into implementing a similar system using the IBC totes but underground to save space (hard to get by in Europe). Any thoughts or advice?

    Try drilling a small hole in the center of the cap. That will solve your problem.

    You place an adapter back to 3in pipe at the bottom or your first flush so the two liter won't get caught up.

      Hi Abel, Yes, there is an adapter from 3'' to 4'' so the two liter bottle will get caught up.

      Hey there Trenton!...Great work man!..I was referring to the bottom part of your first flush. If you place a 3in adapter along with a 3in clean out at the bottom of your fIrst flush the hope Is the bottle will sit on top and not get stuck. Eliminating the need for the rock..hope thIs helps..your system rocks!

    Hello sir. Im currently doing my research on the same system. Do you install any kind of screening filter on the gutter to prevent particles or leaves coming into the flow pipe or even any filtering system within the flow pipe itself? If you did filter within the pipe, how regular it will be to conduct maintenance? Thank you beforehand for awesome explaination.

    Do you think FF system is needed when we have good filtration system ?

    Howdy! How much water do you think your first flush system holds? If you took that amount up on the roof, would it really clean the roof off and flush it down the gutters to the drain pipe?

    • @TheKombuchaCompany
      @TheKombuchaCompany  9 років тому

      TheStavros1001 My estimate is around 8-9 gallons. A 4 inch pipe can hold .65 gallons per foot of pipe. I have around 12 feet of first flush pipe. I am not sure if it will clean everything off the roof, however it has to be much cleaner than the prior. I also use gutter guard on part of the roof to help with debris as well as manually cleaning the gutters from time to time. So far I am happy with the water I am collecting.

      If it works for you, that means it's working great! I was thinking that it will eventually get that "swampy" smell and you will have to clean out your totes after a while. I noticed that LDS Prepper had that problem. Also, since you were using the nylons for debris filters in the first tank, that tells me the first flush system doesn't hold enough of the dirty water off the roof. I only have 2 55 gallon barrels, but am looking to add at least one if not two of those 300 gallon totes. I use the first barrel as my "first flush," which gives me very clean water in the second barrel. Depending on what I'm using the water for, I have a choice to use both barrels. There are many uses for water that doesn't require pristine clean drinking water quality.

      TheStavros1001 I have cleaned my tanks once since installing the system, Even with all my pre filtration I do still get a small amount of dirt that settles on the bottom go the tank. One of my reasons for the unions on the system, to be able to remove and clean a tank if need be.

    How long does it take to completely fill up all your tanks?

    • @TheKombuchaCompany
      @TheKombuchaCompany  6 років тому +1

      All depends on the amount of rain. But just a couple of inches will fill my tanks with my roof.

      Trenton Kaminski thanks for your reply. I just got my tank set up and we had a light rain last night. I need to figure out a gauge. I saw a video where someone was using “clear” plastic pipe that they kept under pipe insulation to protect from algae and UV so plastic would stay clear. Do you have any advice?

    Great system Trenton...unless caught in a drought situation. Here is another link for your first flush assembly...to replace the plastic bottle diverted. ua-cam.com/video/XJBJpnSrQEI/v-deo.html
