Mind you...I don't argue that Deere makes a great product...but it's WHICH Deere is the great one. I've worked on some pretty crappy ones over the years. The Thin stamped steel frames akin to MTD mainly. But...giving credit where credit is due, those stamped steel machines are just riding mowers after all right? I've been privy to working on many very nice Garden Tractor Deere's, and they're a far cry better than their little brothers. But, every manufacturer has their Yugo's right? hehe Cheers my Friend! Zip~
ZippoVarga now I can't argue with you there. They made some real junk. For five years everyday I worked on them. Yes there are crappy ones. Lol my favorite are the older ones. Their higher end line was always good. The cheaper ones they sell at lowes and Home Depot are not real great. My all time favorite is a small 38" cut mower model 185. Great little mower and pretty bullet proof. Their best push mower was a 14sb best push mower in my opinion still to this day. Kawasaki engine. But yes they have their turds as well
ZippoVarga its a four stroke Kawasaki FC150V-JS01. As far as deck I believe they are aluminum. Its a commercial grade mower. They also had another model called a JX75 with metal wheels. They were a beast as well. Four stroke. Toro had a push mower with a 2 stroke Suzuki engine on them. Commercial mower. They were good just finicky
My dad had one he bought back around 1978 and we really liked it but the engine was garbage, it had two major breakdowns and then he sold it. What are they worth now in good condition I really like to know.
I know of a 420 with three hydro levers, deck and power plow blade with just 720 hours on it. Check my other videos for a look at it. The owner might sell. Zip~
My 2013 Conquest is still using the factory battery. I do use Battery Tenders on my equipment, so I've had no problems. I am thinking of switching to an automotive battery when the time comes. Will it fit? What size should I look for?
Yes...put something in there if you know the engine has not been turned over for an extended period of time. I see you posted another vid on the bike....headed over to check it out! Cheers Brother! Zip~
John deere 400,, good body condition, engine with 3800 hrs! Yes, 3800. Everything works but the deck bogs down when its engaged, even in lawn that dont need to be mowed. $1500. Good deal?
One cylinder isn't firing. Sounds ok when there's no load, then when a load is put to the engine, it falls flat on its face. It can be any number of things, but most generally, you're looking at the dual outlet Coil. Which isn't cheap. $1500 is somewhat fair considering the issue it has. Best of luck with it! Zip~
I'd love to have that 400, I'm adding a 322 to my herd tomorrow but the 400 you have there would be a very welcome addition and that should be a 60" deck as opposed to 6' but a very nice tractor indeed. Thanks
hey zippo... im restoring a allis chalmers b10.. im currenty putting it back together but my shifter where it comes out of the center console is moving up and down and side to side... am i missing something to keep it still? thanks
Yep....There's a sleeve with a capture nut on a tab that goes under the dash tower (not the dash it self). The Shift rod slips into the sleeve and holds the front of the shift rod stable. Grease the rod and sleeve with lithium grease for years of service free shifting. Hope this helps. Zip~
these allis chalmers are nice tractors when they are restored but they are hard to work on... so compact and tight... i bought my allis chalmers b10 1967 model from my elderly neighbor... he is was the original owner and had the manual which is like new and the bill of sale... he paid 759 dollars... he blew up the trans and rebuild it... he repainted the whole tractor with house paint and a brush... he painted belts wires everything... then he put bicycle decals to spell allis chalmers
nice. i used to use wd40 for my dead tractors motors , now i use pb blaster, because itll burn clean. my 86gt 2 was full of rusty water, pb cleaned it right out. i drain the gas out of my stuff after every mowing, usually cause i rotate them an it would be a while before its next use.👍
very nice job, what is thew purpose of fogging the cylinders before you restart the engine that has been sitting for a long time? BTW the Wisconsin engine that I am reactivating was rebuilt before it was stored.
The fogging of the cylinder prevents rings from sticking, keeps valve train lubricated and helps prevent rust in the combustion chamber. Any oil will work. I also use PB Blaster's LMT (Lawn Mower Tune Up in a Can) Cheers Josh! Zip~
Nice job. Avoiding that old fuel till the end. This machine is made out of metal. Not like the cheap green ones. I get it. Power steering is nice eh!!! The seat isn't even cracked.
Over time, I've learned....worry about the gas tank last, because if there's engine issues....the gas tank won't matter much lol. That's one Deere I wouldn't mind mounting at all. It's a very nice machine. Cheers my Friend! Sean~
Greeting Mr. Zippo, Did you say Acid Glass Mat when describing AGM batteries? I have always heard Absorbed Glass Mat as in not free acid sloshing around or to spill. BTW, I mashed the like button.
I've heard both descriptions, but most often I hear Acid Glass Mat, so that's the one I went with. Absorbed Glass Mat is a more precise description in my opinion though. Good catch! Cheers! Zip~ And thanks for the Like!!
Thanks for your reply and your catalog of informative videos. The difference might be a regional thing too. Like soda in the west and pop back east. Of course if you are down south it's all Coke.
Yep...It's Pop here in Indiana. I was born and raised on the East coast, where it was Soda...When I relocated, I got a lot of strange looks for "the way I talked" lol Cheers! Zip~
That’s a nice machine.
Cool
That 400 is a great tractor. Excellent shape. I'm jealous. I am partial to Deer. They make a great product.

Was it a Kawasaki two cycle? I've got one of those here that's a parts donor...not a JD, but a magnesium deck and most of the engine components. Zip~

They only have a million grease zerks. And most are pretty well hidden ... lolol.
Good video Zippa, A thumbs up from Oklahoma ..... Bob.

This one, which had been painted with a paint brush sold for $1800.
That Kohler is a nice runner. Thanks Zip! It's always nice to have an easy one thrown in the mix one in a while.
For Sure!!!! I always welcome them, but they are very few and very far between unfortunately. lol Cheers Mr. A! Zip~
Would you sell it
It sold August of 2017 for $1800 at Auction Devin. Zip~
Do you have any more

What trump said Sir Doogals! Just get a higher CCA of the same dimensions. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Mower looks good to have set for so long. Great video Zip!
Thanks Sweetie! Zip~
Man that deere is sweet love to have it. But as you know just bought new mower.Have a great week.
You figure any oil in the cylinders is better than nothing? I've been using 50/50 kero and ATF.
Yes...put something in there if you know the engine has not been turned over for an extended period of time. I see you posted another vid on the bike....headed over to check it out! Cheers Brother! Zip~
Thanks! Whoever gets this tractor is lucky!
Great Job My Friend !!!!!!!!!
Thanks Barry my good man! Zip~

ZippoVarga much appreciated Zip!
Only bogs down in hi range apparently, while mowing. Im going tomorrow morning to have a look. :)
@@missionron in high range it goes 12 miles an hour which is normal as you will not mow your lawn that fast because it’s not good for the engine

Thanks for the clarification Fella. 60" makes more sense for sure. Cheers! Zip~
John Deere 400 SGT quite the beast for sure.
Thoughts on the bcs two wheel tractor?

thanks that was the problem
Glad it was solved! And glad I was able to help. Cheers! Zip~

Oh ok, thanks which one do you prefer?
Both work equally well Josh. I've used PB Blaster LMT longer than the Sta-Bil. Zip~
ok, would you recommend me do it to the Wisconsin engine?
Idol for that engine is 1100 rpm’s ,, it is set way to low.. just thought id pass that on per john deere...
Nice tractor and in great shape; that should bring you some nice $$$/cake..
Nice job. Avoiding that old fuel till the end. This machine is made out of metal. Not like the cheap green ones. I get it. Power steering is nice eh!!! The seat isn't even cracked.
