    Incredible footage shows US fighter jets soaring majestically over the Welsh valleys as they train with F-15 pilots on anti-terror exercises.
    The F-22 Raptors are seen zooming around the Mach Loop, a set of picturesque Valleys in Wales used by the RAF for low level training exercises.
    Aircrew from the USAF 95th Fighter Squadron set off from RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk before putting on the display as they begin a short tactical training secondment in Britain.
    The F-22 is a single-seat stealth aircraft renowned for its superior air-combat capabilities and during the clip viewers are allowed a brief insight into its agility and grace.
    The Mach Loop is a vital training ground for the RAF as it allows aircrews to practice the art of low flying, a tactic helping pilots to avoid enemy detection during a combat situation.
    Pilots from the 95th, affectionately nicknamed 'the Boneheads', were brought to Britain to train against and alongside different pilots and aircraft - rather than their usual US colleagues.

    We see the effect of thrust vectoring in how the F-22 & F-15 dealt with the incoming mountain side there at the very end. The F-22 was able to keep flying head on & seemingly changed direction at the very last second. The F-15, meanwhile, had to make that wide turn from quite a distance to avoid slamming into the mountain.

      The F-15 would easily catch the F-22 as the Eagle has superior speed. That said, in a head to head fight, the Raptor wins every time. I'm not telling you anything you probably don't already know. I bet most of us out here watching these jets would love just one chance to take a ride in either plane.

      Well the Pratt & Whitney F-119 engines can hit super cruise without afterburner. The F-15 Eagle would have to be in full afterburner to even keep up. If the Raptor decided to hit full throttle.. BYE BYE Eagle! Also keep in mind the top speeds of the Raptor is Classified.

Like listening to Peter Griffen bitch about people using horse-drawn carriages instead of cars. There is a linear development that happens...and YES, it takes generations, but to come out and say "hey, the b-1 toasts the b-17". I will say that the F-15...dollar per dollar still drops the raptor.

    The F-22 is such a beautiful piece of engineering and the archetype of the modern stealth fighter and You can see it's DNA in the F-35. And you know Lockheed Martin did their homework because you can definitely see Russia and China Copying or coming to the same conclusions on geometry in the Su- 57 and J20 although, Looking at the J-20 which uses rivets instead of seamless welds and using Canards on a stealth craft is kind of mitigating it's stealth Everytime those flight surfaces manuver.

    wow ...what amazes me is how on the second pass he/she seems to side slip or vector the thrust almost sideways so as to get right in for the close turn then you watch the f-15 ( which i love) really working hard at the turn. fantastic piece of film that we would never have ever seen, the more and more i see the f-22 you realise how formidable of a weapon lockheed martin have created. your first flight as a pilot is your first solo....can't get my head around that lol

    • @rickmurray7123
      @rickmurray7123 6 років тому

      Your first solo in that plane is not your first solo, believe me. Lots of other jet experience and plenty of simulator time. I flew A7s and there were no 2 seaters early on. By the time you get to the advanced airplanes, you're a pretty good pilot or you wouldn't be there. It is still an interesting experience to fly a new airplane solo for the first time.

    • @rbrtck
      @rbrtck 5 років тому +1

      Actually, the thrust vectoring isn't used much, if at all, at fairly high subsonic speeds like this. The F-22 simply has greater control authority--it is a more nimble, agile fighter aerodynamically. Part of this is the negative static stability it has in all three axes--it "wants to" pitch, roll, and yaw all the time, and the digital flight control system keeps this under control, artificially stabilizing the aircraft. The result is that the F-22 responds more quickly (if this is commanded) than most every other fighter. Others also have "relaxed" stability or even negative stability in one or more axes, but I think currently only the F-22 is negatively stable in all three.
      If you look at the F-22 and watch its control surfaces closely (in other videos, as this one is not the best for this), you can see how this works on the F-22. Its forward fuselage is curved to provide a substantial amount of lift in level flight, which moves its center of lift forward of its center of mass, which means that the tail must generate lift to keep everything level and balanced, as opposed to a downward force like on a statically stable aircraft. When you want to pitch up to turn, the tail momentarily imparts a downward force (or generates less lift) that causes the F-22 to pitch upward very quickly, and then keeps the upward pitch under control by generating lift again. The result is a quicker, harder turn than most other fighters can make under the same conditions. It also helps that the F-22's control surfaces are so large, often assisted by vortices, and move so quickly (strong hydraulics). Thrust vectoring really only comes into play at slow speeds or supersonic speeds, when the aerodynamic controls lose much of their authority.

    What always stands out to me with stealth aircraft (f22, f117, b2) is how it can be hard to tell sometimes if they are coming or going, depending on the viewpoint. Their shapes are so well designed to deflect or absord radar that it can also confuse the nake eye a bit. Especially the F117 and B2, from same angles it can be really hard to tell which way they are actually pointed.

      The only F-16's that fight against US fighters like F-22's and F-35's that are always on the good guys Blue force side of Red Flag, while the Red force flys fighters like the F-16C and F-15C are the Red force fighters made up to look and perform as closely to Migs that is possible.
      All the Red force fighters are camo'd in crazy blues and browns, light blues and yellows like Russian fighters are, while the US pilots that make up the Red force pilots fly exact Russian tactics 100% of the time and even learn to speak Russian to make cross talk chatter sound real..
      The US has a few dozen of each Mig 21's, Mig 23's, Mig 27's and Mig 29's. The US also has 6 of Sadams Mig 25's and two new Mig 31's used by Iraq but never saw the air while US F-15's were flying.
      The US also owns many Sukhoi fighters like 6 SU 27's, 4 SU 25's and many SU 20's and SU 22's, SU 15's and SU 24's. With all these Russian aircraft I could not figure out why we didnt refurbish them with our engines and systems and use them as Red force fighters?
      I work for Pratt & Whitney here in Southern California at Edwards AFB. Most of us engineers wanted to know why we are not using US engines and systems to use in these aircraft as Red force fighters and attack aircraft.
      We were told by the DOD, with all the new aircraft, ships and ground vehicles being built and going into US service there are no funds to do it at this time.
      The DOD did tell us they at one time were going to bring in 12 Mig 29's with more powerful, none smoking GE enhanced F414 engines with 26,400lbs of Z5 after burner thrust that each have 4200lbs of thrust more than the Russian engines in the Mig 29's that smoke so bad, you can see them from 25 miles away.
      Lets see, so if your friend is a part of Red Flag at Nellis or up in Alaska, than he fought the Raptor as a Red force pilot using Russian tactics in an F-16C. Correct?

      1: Spent a minute or two to learn how thrust is produced.
      2: A generator producing the same amount of thrust weighs many times more that a gas turbine engine, even including fuel.
      3: If any pilot wants to kill you without you hearing him/her, they can by using high speed, low altitude, range, tactics, wind, ie the purpose of training and evolving tactics.
      4: A gas turbine is the most controllable, efficient, realistic and effective way of producing thrust in a aircraft/helicopter, especially a military one.
      5: Stealth, as in invisible, does not exist, the correct technical term is "LO", Low Observable.
      I can give your some quotes and ISBN numbers if you want it from testpilots, governments and those who shot them down.

    Raptor rules the skies. Which is why they are talking about reopening the program and build a couple hundred more. Maybe eventually get to about 500 total. With a couple thousand F-35s on they way, and over a thousand Eagles still in service an air force far and away second to none. And then theres drones.....

    • @mississippirebel1409
      @mississippirebel1409 5 років тому

      Actually the US only has 250 F-15C's (those are the air superiority versions) and around 250 F-15E strike eagles. The US has over 900 F-16's still in service. But it is EXTREMELY unlikely the US will ever produce another F-22 because of the cost of restarting the production line. I believe the US is planning on a total of around 2,700 F-35's.
      While the US only has around 190 F-22's, that is still more fighters than countries like the UK and Germany have in their air force. The UK only has something like 174 Typhoons.
