      is the amount of attention to detail exhausting? is is something that is enjoyable?

      @@mersadirichardson4147 I don't feel like it's exhausting personally. Once you get used to the instruments, it's easy to know exactly what you're doing without a lot of extra brainpower. It is important to be organized and pay attention to detail, but it becomes second nature.

    No one talks about the temperature regulations. Schools teach it’s from 60 to 65°F in decontamination room, but the reality is 72°F with a 30% humidity level that feels more like working in 90°F> temperatures.

    I completely agree with you. I would add The temperature requirements since nobody talks about this. It gets extremely hot in decontamination room with all that PPE on. you all need to make sure you can handle heat

    In my opinion SPD Techs should be paid more, but with higher education and certification. It's a tough job, and a very important one I'm fact, without a SPD their wouldn't be any surgeries unless hospitals and or companies want to pay more for loaner sets and kits. Maybe a name change because SPD works alot with the O.R maybe O.R instruments Tech. Ontop they just don't only work with them they work with the whole hospital supplying clean I.V pumps, would VACs, supplying code and case carts (uro included) syringes, pumps, depuy sets, PPE, pace makers, etc. What's your opinion?

      Coast Off I worked in spd for an entire year full time and just passed my board exam hear in ny, but I have to say there is absolutely no reason to have more education for this job it’s not that hard just very busy and fast paced. Anyone can do it as long as their trained properly. But I agree we should get paid more especially since we deal with blood, skin, bone etc. at the hospital here the cooks get paid like 2 bucks more then we do it’s non sense. We are the heart of the hospital!!

      @@andylopez3522 SPTs are definitely underpaid but as someone who started in the workforce years ago as a food service associate in a hospital (and is now going into sterile processing), don't discount your food people! 😜 The way my hospital ran, I interacted with patients in their rooms and dealt with a lot of pressure and verbal thrashings over things out of my control, I was put into dangerous situations with violent patients more than once, and I witnessed a lot of things I shouldn't have. I also came into contact with blood, spit, urine, vomit, used needles, etc. daily while doing dishes. It can be a tough job and there is no (or very little) training involved.

      I agree pay needs to be higher. Amazon workers start at $15 and our job way more important than that. With economy prices going up , spd should have risen as well especially with all the stress and important details we deal with on a daily basis. Let me not start with turnover rates in this field. I think its important ppl in this field fight for more pay and not except any low wage that is offered. Once the surgeons pockets get affected then and hospital loses money then thats when they like to make changes. One day spd will get the desired and deserved pay we need and turnover rates may decline

      @@andylopez3522 their should be more education, we have hired techs here that don't know anything about steam sterilization, how it works, what bio we use, how the Bowie dick test works. Why sterrad is something we use. It's a mess. This isint a job for everyone, alot of science and math.

    • @Ashfurxx
      @Ashfurxx 4 роки тому +3

      @@imy939 yes I have seen that but we work with the O.R directly we have ridiculous turn over rates. We have instruments come down from the O.Rs dirty, they don't wet the instruments. We have to be ontop of everything. We deal with everything, from bone, blood, bodily fluids, syringes, needles (for needle holders) it's alot.

      the 2 different certifications have different requirements one requires 400 working hours the other requires a year if i remember right i just went to school for it and it took 4 months and the first hospital i interviewed at is a level 1 trauma center and supposedly ranked 1 of the best in georgia and only offered 11.66 a hour and thats with the certificate. They said thats entry level off the street it doesnt matter if i went to school for it or not
