Came to say exactly this. I think it's nicer looking, and the power button fingerprint sensor placement is so great. It's also flat, so it doesn't shimmy off the table when you place it on its back. I also like the size in my hand better than the XZ2 Premium. As far as camera performance, they seem about equal to me. XZ2 Premium handles extreme low light better, but how often does anyone shoot in a dark room? I haven't really dived into video yet.

Today I just watched a 4K video on UA-cam with my XZ Premium, and god, the sharpness is incredible, even a non HDR video is superb! I was also looking for some comparison between these 2, just to see how the XZ2P looks next to the XZP, and it's not bad, both are good looking.

Switched to Sony from Apple last year . I've had the latest iPhone for years and I have to say the original Sony XZ Premium is the first phone I've ever had that I want to keep for a long time. It looks unique, smart and sexy , and I just don't don't see me needing a faster device anytime in the foreseeable future. And it's just the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. After a year it's like I'm falling in love with it again.
The XZ Premium still has a 3.5mm port which was the deciding factor for me LOL... Yeah sure XZ2 Premium has 6GB of RAM... But realistically doesnot really give a performance boost... Its more the 845 SOC thats an improvement, but the said the 835 SOC on the XZ Premium is noslouch either

When Sony of all people who sell tons of wired earphones, and even most of their wireless ones allow for wired use when the battery dies or is no good anymore, took away their headphone jack from their best and most premium phone, I said automatic no buy. They should be competeing with LG's Quad Dac/Amp set up. They could beat LG in Audio by allowing your music files to be processed by the dac and amp before they go over the Qualcomm APTX HD and Sony LDAC wireless bluetooth codecs, digital optical out, 2.5 balanced out, or a multitrack audio recorder studio app. 24bit-192stereo recording. I believe LG's great stereo recording is 24 bit 48khz with the ability to record very loud music without distortion. Things LG does not have. Not to be a total hater, I like the stereo speakers, different design, 4k is awesome, fast os upgrades, very light skin, some of sony's software, great camera, especially selfie camera. And all phones should go back to 16/9 flat square screens, instead of crazy 18/9+ resolutions with notches. thats what 99.9% of all content is so other than being a few millimeters narrower, and giving companies the ability to lie and say they have more screen area than they do because the notch takes away some of that resolution and screen area they advertise away.
Watching this from my XZP. I love the sharp edged design, my only complaint is the default swiftkey keyboard and the missing double tap to wake up feature
I have XZP. I love the look especially the perfect mirror back, but even the best clear case has issues... It sticks in the center and debris gets in through the smallest cracks. The point is the new XZ2 design has grown on me and I shouldnt worry too much about the back. (yes, I know it's still reflective but more like a fun house mirror lol). And I'll learn to deal with 3.5mm adapters. But the price is too much for a minor upgrade, I'll wait for black Friday sales!

Speed and battery tests are all well and good, but speed isn't a big difference these days, and you can compromise for any battery performance. Plus no one has really used a light meter to measure how bright their screens are :)

I don't need headphone jack, I have portable wf1000x and mdr1000x, why would need headphone jack, I had mdrxb75ap, even though I have a dongle, I had to gift it, I saw no use of it. I don't use car Aux, xz2 and xz2 premium is a battery power house, for my taste 2 hours for audio/video listening using Bluetooth is enough and battery still holds up. Too good I have note 8 and iPhone X, still prefer Sony's ergonomics
All good phones in their own right but the XZ premium still offers so much at a lower cost now , at least in UK. However the user experience is hampered by all the spam messages Sony send you from their own installed apps ( which cannot be deleted), Even turning off notifications does not stop the spam. Sony when I invest in a premium product I do not expect to get daily spam messages to buy more of your products / recommendations. Such a shame as it is putting me off getting another Sony again. Way too much bloatware that cannot be removed. For now I will enjoy the XZ premium.

I had the original z5 premium. It was a nice phone but a little disappointing. I broke the screen twice second time ultimately ending its use. The 4k screen was great but it was never supported by anything. Not even when all the updates to os and release of xz it was still unable to play on UA-cam. The fingerprint reader on power button was also useless if your finger got slight dirty it would never work. The xz2 premium is amazing in comparison, I paid £670. It's fingerprint reader works and although a little low I find most of the time my hand position automatically just hits it. 4k is supported 😁 and the camera on this thing is great.

Doesn't the normal XZ2 have 6GB RAM already? That's enough for me. I hope there's AOSP dev for it though, at least after the updates run out. Its XDA is pretty dead now.

I had the same question before 2 months. I was looking between the xz2(500euros) and the xz premium (400euros).I made a test in a shop between them and finally I choose the xz premium because I don't care so much about the camera but I prefere a lot more the 16:9 4k display. So I saved 100 euros and I bought something a lot better for me. I will hold my xz premium for a long time. I only hope that Sony will still produce xperias for a long time too. 🙏

I dont believe that they will not change the design again. They made it this year after a lot of years with omnibalance design. I can tell you that I can highly recommend it. + 3.5mm mini Jack

Agree, in my opinion all they needed to do, is to reduce that "chin" and "forehead", and to give it more modern design by making it bit slimer.

How you get that dynamic vibration on xz premium? I have updated my phone but I don't get that feature, help me please :(

Doesn't the normal XZ2 have 6GB RAM already? That's enough for me. I hope there's AOSP dev for it though, at least after the updates run out. Its XDA is pretty dead now.

I had the same question before 2 months. I was looking between the xz2(500euros) and the xz premium (400euros).I made a test in a shop between them and finally I choose the xz premium because I don't care so much about the camera but I prefere a lot more the 16:9 4k display. So I saved 100 euros and I bought something a lot better for me. I will hold my xz premium for a long time. I only hope that Sony will still produce xperias for a long time too. 🙏

I dont believe that they will not change the design again. They made it this year after a lot of years with omnibalance design. I can tell you that I can highly recommend it. + 3.5mm mini Jack

18:9 screens suck ass. I had an Xperia X and now an Honor 10, which has 0.84" larger screen, and still videos feel the same, or somewhat smaller
