    There's incorrect information on Capital One Venture X - each authorized user DOES NOT get their own TSA precheck/ global entry credit, only the primary card holder gets it. That would be way overpowered

    I have both the Venture X and CSR - I use the Venture X as a catch-all card with the 2x on non-bonused purchases and cell phone protection, and use the CSR for dining, travel, and partner benefits (Lyft, Doordash, Instacart). And FYI, my income is $80k, but I have no children, car, rent, mortgage, or other debt, so I can splurge when I go on vacation (including paying cash prices for long-haul business-class, especially when using that for a credit card SUB)!

      Another combo I wouldn’t have minded is the Venture and The Reserve, yes it’s more expensive and both approximate the price for one AMEX Platinum but the Venture gives you 2 visits to the C1 Lounges per calendar year. Since they’re taking that away, your idea is the best. Devastating indeed, would’ve been very nice to have access to both lounge networks over Centurion

    Awesome comparison Sebby! I'd be happy even if Chase had Hyatt as its only transfer partner. I've redeemed the Hyatt House Jersey City at 15k points/night, and as for the luxury side, I've redeemed the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome at 35k-40k points/night. The latter remains 1 of my proudest redemptions.

    I currently have the Venture X and I find it to be great for my needs. I am able to recoup the annual fee thru the credits alone from yearly travel vacation and the lounge access is quite nice for a relatively low AF for a premium card. As someone based in Denver, as well, and not finding much use in the Platinum's credits, it hard to find something that gives me lounge access without committing to an airline lounge like United. Just recently, the Capital One lounge in Denver just opened and it is quite nice and modern and I like it a lot and as someone who travels a decent amount for work, the lack of lounge options with the CSR was a little rough. That being said, I do think that the CSR is a good card when paired with any of the Freedom cards. If Denver opens a dedicated Priority Pass lounge or Sapphire Lounge, I could see myself jumping ship from the VX to the CSR. But until that happens, I'll probably get the CSP once I am out of 5/24

    • @diamondshard2
      @diamondshard2 4 місяці тому +8

      Bit of a add on, the Capital One travel portal price match guarantee was very easy to use. I paid about $1700 premium economy for my direct flight from JFK to Changi, Singapore, but noticed that Singapore Airlines themselves were offering $1300 for the same seat in premium economy. I just called C1 travel line and told them about the lower price, they checked it to make sure, and within 5 minutes I got a refund on the difference in price, while still keeping the 5X points on the 1700 in spend. Definitely easier than most people would think.

    Thinking about going back to Chase. Long time ago I was deep in the ecosystem. I actually currently have the Hyatt/Freedom Unlimited/Freedom OG/Amazon/United/Slate. Stay away from the Cap X Card slowly removing benefits and devaluing its ability to be worth the annual fee. Reserve is $550 but you know what you are getting and no strings attached no coupons necessary and no portal necessary. And get incentivized to use. Not to mention priority pass select options & restaurants. Ive been praising this card for the longest. By the end of the year Chase will revamp and gain the overall market once again🔥👍

      At the end of the day, Cap X still gets your $300 travel coupon and $100 worth in Miles. So whatever so called removal of benefits, the simple objective net worth of the Cap X is still higher than CSR.

      To each their own, Every CC benefits will eventually get nerfed, I switched from Chase to VX when they Chase nerfed pay yourself back on outside portal travel purchases couple of years back, that was a major selling point. After that, they started cycling monthly pay yourself back options depending on the timing of the months and specific categories. Not to mention, their travel portal was horrendous finding anything. There's a card for everyone, for me I don't door dash, I don't live in cities or travel plans needing cars for Lyft, and use instacart perks so therefore I'm overpaying for the annual fee of CSR.

    I have the VX, and had the CSR (for the SUB). I prefer the VX, as it fits my lifestyle more than the CSR. I don't really care about hotels, so I don't value Hyatt too much as a transfer partner. It's easier for me to get positive value out of the VX than the CSR, and to recoup the AF. Although I did appreciate the CSR 50% point bonus in the portal.
    I used to use the C1 duo quite a bit, but recently changed to the Chase Trifecta (with the CSP), due to the SUB of the CFU doubling your points for a year. But once that promotion is over, I think I'm going back to the C1 duo, and only using the CFF for rotating categories, and the CSP for the $50 hotel credit and to keep Chase's transfer partners.
    Although, if C1 keeps nerfing the VX, I have no qualms getting the CSR again and switching over to Chase. Whatever gets me the most value for the least trouble is the setup I'm going with.

    Hyatt point value is 1.7 cents/point (really good value). World of Hyatt (Chase) has the 9x point multiplier. Chase also does IHG (0.8 cents/point) and 26 point/dollar spent at IHG hotels. Plus Marriott (variable on season at 0.7-0.8 cent/point) with 12-20 points/dollar at specific hotels. So double the value by CSR alone. You will find routing that is specific for each travel portal, though (UR, TY, TR), you won't find through Google Flights, (although I've never dug super far down the ITA matrix to try to match the routing). I use the C1 Travel portal regularly and find the value worth it at times. Much better than I did the UR portal. Also, be aware that UR portal ticketing may say a specific seating class, but *MAY NOT* be accurately reflected as issued by the airline (Delta Premium Economy through UR portal MAY NOT actually be Premium Economy but Economy +). I've not had that issue in the C1 portal.

    I am in Dallas where there is no chase lounge. There is a Capital One lounge though. I have a CSP from Chase (the $95 one). Does it make sense for me switch to VX because of the Capital One lounge in DFW airport? I also need the primary rental collision coverage which CSP has which I found that VX also has.

    • @ryanshannon6963
      @ryanshannon6963 4 місяці тому

      TL;DR: Keep the CSP, ADD the C1VX to your set-up. *CONSIDER* Citi Premier (or C1 Savor Rewards in the future).
      Deets:
      I like in OKC and had the CSR and currently have the C1VX. I downgraded the CSR to CSP and kept the VX. I usually try to book flights out of DFW (I'll just rent a car with VX's Hertz President's Circle, sadly going away at the EOY, one way drop off at DFW) since the redemptions are typically better/easier and cheaper if paying cash. I find the VX and Citi Premier being a good combination for everyday stuff (gas, groceries outside of walmart and target, restaurants) if you live in a not big coastal city. I make just over 140k annually and probably put about 42k to 45k in spend on the combination of those cards. Points accumulation is quite easy with those two cards without having to keep track of a plethora of BS statement credits, which is where the CSR is slowly starting to gravitate. The only thing that the CSP helps is door dash dashpass. Wife and I are starting to use that a bit more for carry-out orders and when we are too busy with grocery shopping. We have an infant and we both work full time so our time is limited/heavily scheduled.
      In terms of airline transfer partners, it seems like the airline transfer partners with C1 and Citi TY is much better than Chase UR. The primary advantage that UR has is with United being a transfer partner, but now that you can find Star Alliance award space *ONLINE* with TK Miles and Smiles, the redemption rates to Europe are basically unmatched sans transfer bonuses to Flying Blue. Hell, I just found ORD to KUL via NRT full J-Class on ANA's "The Room" availability on Miles and Smiles for 67.5k miles (which isn't bad at all for Central US to SE Asia). Assuming it's bookable through Virgin Atlantic it'll probably be around 50k to 55k miles, maybe 95k roundtrip, which is the premier sweet spot for Mainland US to Asia, next to ANA award directly transferring from Amex. With the VX and Premier, the airline transfer partners largely overlap, and the bonus categories really mutually exclude to provide a *wide range of spend coverage*, offering a minimum of 2x points to a maximum of 10x points depending upon spend. The C1 travel portal typically has better availability when paying cash than my experience with Chase UR portal, as well as being competitively priced with direct booking to hotel or airline, as well as most OTA's. The fact you get 5x to 10x makes any marginal (in my experience) premium worth it. With Chase, you're very sorely lacking good transfer partners to Star Alliance, but OneWorld is pretty well covered. However, with C1 and Citi, you have generally the best of both with excellent redemptions for Star Alliance (Europe/Asia), OneWorld (Iberia/British Airways for Europe and sometimes Asia and South America) as well as Flying Blue (ALWAYS EUROPE and maybe South America). C1/Citi is just less costly and more useful in my experience playing around in both Travel Programs.
      I'm about to get into my first business credit card and I've been looking through the ecosystems once more, and I *may lean* towards the Amex Plat Business, or the C1VX Business.

      No, you don't get a bonus for upgrading. If it's been more than 4 years since the CSP bonus, you can downgrade it to one of the Freedom cards and apply for the CSR to earn the bonus.

    TLDR: Pick which one makes more sense in your home and commonly visited airports.
    For me, coming from Boston and Providence, CSR is better because BOS has a chase lounge and no Capital One lounge, and PVD has no lounges but it does have a restaurant that gives priority pass credit for dining exclusively to Chase customers. So if I got the Capital One X instead, I would have no lounge access and no restaurant credit at either of my home airports.

    You can have the CSP and the Venture X and have the best of both world. CSP is 95 a year and Vulture X is 395. Those combined is less than the CSR.
    You get your points transfer with chase while still having lounge access. It far exceeds the CSR in my opinion.

    Hello Sebby! i have been trying to get the venture x for my wife. i just finished a written request for reconsideration. She was rejected because of " too many open lines of revolving credit ( 3 cards of her own and 2 as authorized user on my cards) in my letter i asked for a manual review as she has a score of 734 and said we need a travel card as we presently don't have one and have 3 trips planned this year. Any other suggestions?
