    It was nice of Hyundai to place the rear spring separate from the shock. Usually its inside and more difficult. This car is pretty easy to work on and much appreciated by the DIY crowd.

    You guys have saved me so much money! The shop time here (small mechanic shop) is 110.00 an hr. With a hoist you can replace rear shocks in 15 minutes. On the ground it takes a little longer. Still worth saving the 110.00. Like paying yourself.

    Do not use RED thread locker. If you ever need to disassemble those parts again, you will need torch to heat the part to at least 500 degrees F to get them apart again. Those bolts should not need any thread locker if they are torqued correctly, but if you still want to use some, use the BLUE thread locker.

      I agree, the only thing I put red on is the steering joint retaining bolt because they usually call for it.

    Great video. Helped me replace the rears in my 13 Elantra Limited at 70k miles. Not only did I have the wandering/bouncy/out of control rear in turns like you mention, but the OEM crappy shocks actually cupped my tires severely after only 15K miles from the poor damping. basket ball effect. I hope these shocks (and new tires tomorrow) solve the problem, because I'm not replacing tires every 15k miles. Why would they offer suck crappy shocks from the factory? I used the torque specs for the shock bolts and did not use loctite...kinda useless with all that WD40 over the bolts, and you shouldnt need loctite if you torque them to 87 ft./lb.

      Yeah and they pay some kid 15$ a hour to do it too so sick of shop rates and how they use a computer with loaded hours for charges but not actual time biggest rip off in the world it really doesn’t take that much equipment nor knowledge to do most auto repairs I maintain my elantra and my duramax classic with UA-cam and for the most part a socket set….I really don’t understand the rates these shops charge people sometimes it’s a 150-200$ job but of course they wanted 3 and that’s likely American more like 400 Canadian here haha

    Looked easy except could not remove top bolt. the rubber bushing would not let the bolt turn and spent almost three hours trying to get it out. Ended up having to take to shop to have it done. I just did it and it took 30-40 minutes tops. Very simple. As far as driving, the car is much more steady and stable on turns. I have been testing it by accelerating rapidly around the u-turns under overpasses near my house. It handles noticeably better. For the price of two shocks and 30-40 minutes, it is well worth it.

    • @3.0TMKreaZ
      @3.0TMKreaZ 2 роки тому

      @Jonathan A I know it is, Mr. UA-cam engineer. There are shims that you put behind the rear hubs that can change the toe. If you look up rear alignment for 2012 Elantra on Google, there are forums explaining how people have made their own shims or took it to alignment places that have shim kits. If you put enough shims and make the toe bear zero, the rear won't move. However the alignment graph will show red.
