It's built listening to operators in the field by experienced engineers who often think out of the box (read Strv103, BKAN, Viggen etc) and to produce the best vehicle for a limited amount of money & resources, and extremely modular; basically, what you want is available to get. Ive heard a lot of talk about Aviation being the future, Artillery being the future, Submarines being the future etc. They all forget that just because a single part of the armed forces does a good job, the rest of the industry does as well. I dont think drones will solve everything out there or deal with every single mission. I believe that drones Together with ifv's, lighter troops and mechanized solutions will be the way forward when you need hardware on site. Drones are woefully underused and underdeveloped compared to my vision for them, but this is a vision ive had for the past 15 years and were just now barely reaching the point of making them interesting. They are clearly a potent threat in a theatre with lacking areal defences. If we spent more on the integration between drones and troops/ifvs etc instead of treating them as their own branch, i think we could have a really strong asset in the future.
Hi Mat. I have to ask the question. Why did the UK go to all the trouble and expense not to mention all the delays with problems in the development of our own IVF. When we could have saved millions buying a proven reliable and powerful CV90 after all BEA is part British. It doesn't make sense, or does it! Great video right up my street 👍
well keep it small and agile for urban combat, make it modular as hell, use an automated turret without human maintenance and also quick swappable for specific mission, keep the crew alive.....connect it to fancy tactical system so the units can cooperate and focus on targets and use external help like drones or remote control other units from a master vehicle.... all futureproofing I came up with in a hurry are checked for this one.... they even add hybrid option so it can run in silent mode from batteries or lay low with electronics running from batteries with generator used only when needed...
11 th minute - why didnt you also mentioned our - Slovakian order of 154 +++ CV90s ? It was first tested by us and we ordered them, Czechs were invited to see the trials aswell, saw the results and made their order shortly ofter ours. Not to mention that we will cooperate like the old "Czechoslovakia" to produce them - 400+ pcs, while we Slovakia were allowed as first outside of Sweden, not only produce the turrets and other stuff, but also their HULLS ! and yes I hope, that we will be the first real customers for CV90120 aswell 😍
I do think that Puma, Lynx and CV90 has a high standard, what makes the biggest difference is that CV90 is combat proven and has the barracuda camouflage. CV90 has been developed since 2004 ( Liberia) and Afghanistan 2007. Germany has delivered the first Lynx to Ukraine and its going to be interesting to follow.
I think the DOD made a mistake choosing GD over BAE to move forward with Rheinmetall. Nothing wrong with GD's innovation persay but I think BAE has a better machine than that of the AJAX
For countries that purchased the CV90 in the 1990s or early 2000s, the CV90 was the only realistic option. There was simply no real competitor on the market. Systems such as Bradley, Warrior and Marder were no longer state-of-the-art. Armies that already use the CV90 are now of course expanding their stocks and upgrading thier existing fleets, as the security situation has changed dramatically. New customers are primarily relying on the CV90 because it is a modern vehicle to NATO standards, but cheaper than the new IFVs from the larger manufacturing nations. I am curious to see whether the ASCOD (like the Lithuanian Army will purchase) can be an alternative for more price-sensitive customers.
I guess adopting the system from Leoben Group is a great move for all. For me there wasn't really any competitor out there over decades, that's why it is so successful. Now with Lynx upcoming I think it will shift a little but not much, I believe CV90 will sill be the standard for most NATO members.
Simple: It's a reliable platform, tested and has room for innovation (The UK should have replaced the Warrior with this rather than relying on the wheeled Boxer to be the IFV).
Fpvs and Lancet type are the new meta. Everything burns. It is a nice piece though. It’s not really that old equipment is behind the times or bad, it’s the new age of recon. So far, Lancet seems to be the better option combining recon and a kill option.
The UK would have had the CV90 right up until BAe thought they could push the Govt into doing things their way ($$), such as not build the vehicle in the UK among other considerations. The UK called their bluff and went with Ajax and by the time BAe realised their mistake and suddenly found ways to meet all the program requirements, it was too late. A real shame.
Not that I follow the CV90 on a regular basis, but one of the strengths of the Bradley is the TOW missile system. I am not sure that the CV90 comes with such a system. I am sure that such a missile could be added to the platform. I like the vehicle as it goes into my future thinking of military vehicles of being modular/flexible, fairly high speed, it has a big enough automatic gun, has a gyroscopically stabilized gun to fire on the run, has good night/infrared vision system, and it carries infantry. A good flanking and hit/run vehicle. For some reason, I like 30mm or larger rapid fire guns or a recoiless gun like on the new USA Booker light tank. ( by General Dynamics & BAE systems) Wheels give a faster smoother ride with less maintenance & and expense, but I am not sure of their ability to navigate really difficult terrain. Can't Canada add these features onto a modular platformed LAV? Perhaps Canada could join the CV90 logistics platform and added a wheeled CV90 to the family? Either way, it looks like the LAV needs to step it up or bite the dust.
In BAE Hägglunds own videos they showcase built in AKERON ATGM missile system. Two sits under a cover in the turret and opens when time to fire. Video titles "CV90 firing MBDA’s 5th generation ATGM AKERON missile".
If the CV90 goes to Brazil, AC will be needed. Plus, heavy on the anti-corrosion. Yes, bite the heavy cost now and worry less during its projected life in service.
As an Ex-British Infantry vet 10 years and a 30 year civilian of Canada. I hope that Canada buys all of our upcoming military equipment from anywhere than America. We need to send them a message that there are other options, than them. I get why the Brits came up with their own APC version they need to keep some engineering/design in country. I am sure Ajax will be fine, Warrior had issues when we got it in our unit way back in 1992. Heck in Bosnia we would burn transmissions quite often, but in Bosnia we were driving the thing flat out on paved roads for hours on end. We would be doing track pad changes every month. I am not a big proponent of building up all of this armour and forces. Theres no way Russia is going to invade Europe, and since i visit China a lot. The people there are more worried about the economy and finding work having a family just like the rest of us. America is constantly trying to scare us into thinking we need a massive military, because they stand to benefit from all the military manufacturing.... Just my thoughts.
Americans really wish Europe would buy anything to defend themselves. Poland, Sweden, and Finland are the only countries that seem to have figured out there is a ground war in Europe.
British army should have accepted the BAE CV90 offering rather than AJAX. We would have had our own production line on Tyneside with secure domestic supply chains for everything! The factory would also be ready to build the various equivalent specialist vehicles of the AJAX ARES family. They could have been in service several years earlier. With a ready made option to build a tracked Warrior replacement.
P.s. i noticed the Swedish troops deployed to Livonia recently had a new Cv90 variant. Some Cv90's have been losing their turrets donating them to gun-less command and artillery spotter variants that had turrets but no gun. The hulls left over has been converted to a Pioneer and in this case a company repair vehicle that carries a crane and spare parts. This is a quite brilliant little vehicle. Also don't worry the company don't lose firepower it actually gains firepower as the command Cv90 and artillery spotter Cv90 both got guns in the company and they are closer to the front line than the repair vehicles anyway
How does this compare to K21 and the Puma? Looking online, it seems like they are both classified as the 2 best IFV in the world. Also, could you do a video on Project Grayburn?
i happen to know irl some pretty famous people. i worked for cher, and i was viva frei's +1 at some thing. get me a cv90 ;) i will drive it to alberta with a beer on the turret if its able to stabilize it the whole way. the first bunch of hundreds of kilometers wont be an issue :) its as flat as my mother was :P

*Just Trolling: Climate Change Activist won't be happy seeing those trees getting knocked down and more carbon dioxide emission. Back to reality: Drones are just part of the tech from attacking like the past when infantry anti-tank weapons were also said to end tank dominance. While on the other hand Defense technology had always been leveled to react against whatever offensive weapons are invented.
So, in comparison to the LAV, is having a tracked IFV the way to go? Personally, I would like to see the LAV be designated as a long range recce vehicle with the ability to launch AVs. Or on a flank position to push out while having CV90's on the front. But I was curious about the pros and cons of tracked vs. wheeled IFVs and whether the LAV is still a better option for us in 2025
Except the Ukrainian crews have said that their CV90s have taekn hits from drones multiple times and kept on rolling. One CV90 remained intact when hit by a T-90 tank shell with the crew surviving with injuries.
It is necessary to move in the direction of reducing the size. It should be a heavy infantry fighting vehicle, but smaller in size. 4-6 people landing or 2-3 in general. Weasel, but with bulletproof armor. Because one 30-50 mm gun is not enough to support an infantry platoon. We need 2 or 3. Also, the power plant must be hybrid: internal combustion engine + electric motors.
@SonsOfLorgar Two combat vehicles is better. The squad is not one, but two. Two guns. Double firepower, can act in pairs, cover each other. Two smaller heavy fighting vehicles.
Personally I would've wished we picked the KF41, but the CV90 is still a great pick for our army. I'm much more iffy about the potential CV90120 investment, mainly because the army (to my knowledge) does not have a concept of a "light tank", and using it as an MBT seems to be quite a bad idea since it's much lighter protected.
Advances in metalurgy, technology and such allow for much smaller sized weapons to still be effective against unarmored or even armored targets. Combine that with the abandonment of heavier armored vehicles for favor of mobility and staying power and you've got many less reasons to keep a bunch of MBT platoons.

Less than 10% vehicle losses and no crew losses over 2 years of active frontline service in Ukraine for the oldest retrofitred vehicles in the family is one hell of a sales argument for a "light" AFV...😊
What
It’s used sparingly there’s already dozens of videos of it getting blown up by $100 fpv drones. Including a couple captured being studied in Russia.
@@Dusubk-z5o ~50 CV9040C IFVs donated to Ukraine in late summer 2022, less than 5 vehicles lost with no crew casualties afaik.
@@rootin222 bullshit. There are lots of fake videos ftom many different angle on the same 1-3 vehicles and a single one that got captured after multiple non-penetrating hits when the crew bailed out... that's the one that got shown in Moskva.
@@SonsOfLorgar I find that unlikely. Media always say the vehicle was disabled but the crew survived. They did it with Challenger and Abrams as well. Crew die in war, I get it's bad optics but I find it unlikely that 50+ IFV's have been taken out with no crew deaths. CV90 is great but it's an IFV and armoured like an IFV not a tank so I doubt it's had no crew deaths.
If I could have any ifv it would be the cv90 1000% 🇸🇪 💪🏻
It's built listening to operators in the field by experienced engineers who often think out of the box (read Strv103, BKAN, Viggen etc) and to produce the best vehicle for a limited amount of money & resources, and extremely modular; basically, what you want is available to get. Add to that tech-sharing and co-op with other countries, which is attractive for the buyer.
I like the newness of that Swedish final assembly factory. They look like they could easily ramp up production if needed several times over.
Make Europe even more great.
Hey, Matt. I couldn't tell if you like the CV90, or REALLY like the CV90, Or Freaking LOVE the CV90. I love the CV90 too. And just about anything coming out of South Korea.🤭🤭🤭🤭🤗🤗🤗

CV90 is badass and so are you 😼
Ive heard a lot of talk about Aviation being the future, Artillery being the future, Submarines being the future etc.
Thanks for another great video. Have you made a video on the new Norwegian shorad which is based on the cv90 chassis?
Not yet!
@@_Matsimus_ I am looking forward to that one. It looks awesome 😊 NOMADS

@BrianCharlesThomas-dp9du because of red tape and money. Always money
well keep it small and agile for urban combat, make it modular as hell, use an automated turret without human maintenance and also quick swappable for specific mission, keep the crew alive.....connect it to fancy tactical system so the units can cooperate and focus on targets and use external help like drones or remote control other units from a master vehicle.... all futureproofing I came up with in a hurry are checked for this one.... they even add hybrid option so it can run in silent mode from batteries or lay low with electronics running from batteries with generator used only when needed...
Would be nice if you could roll up the barracks like that at the end of the day.
The British would have saved a lot of time and money if they had taken the CV90 instead of the Ajax.
Mat, what's the headroom like in the CV90 "passenger / infantry dismount'' compartment compared to the FV432 or Warrior? Lower? Higher? General space?
It’s great! I’d same the same as Warrior
I love to see the Irish army acquire some of these, especially for overseas work..
Loving the consistent uploads legitimately makes my day better please do the smerch mlrs
HUGE mistake selecting an inferior vehicle just for the gun system. Ridiculous.
Cv90 is the Swiss knife of armoured vehicles, enjoy your analysis of vehicles 👍🏻
the cv90 is the F-35 in europe or the rolex of watches
We need these in canada asap
I guess adopting the system from Leoben Group is a great move for all. For me there wasn't really any competitor out there over decades, that's why it is so successful. Now with Lynx upcoming I think it will shift a little but not much, I believe CV90 will sill be the standard for most NATO members.
Modularity is its strongest selling point.
Simple: It's a reliable platform, tested and has room for innovation (The UK should have replaced the Warrior with this rather than relying on the wheeled Boxer to be the IFV).
No the uk knows that the boxer is ALOT better!
@@HedgehogZoneit’s not, it’s different. The UK isn’t getting any IFV modules, so no it’s not better for that role.
A real shame.
i would love to see an updated to old Bradly hulls fitted with a CV-90 40mm gun
I'm not sure I see that happening, but it would be awesome!
@@_Matsimus_ the only way would be for a third party to do the work. but just think of the kit bashing.

@@Reskilober yep just about a decade late
The U.S. should use the CV-90🇺🇲
I think the new version has the Striker missile system?
It does and drone counter measures @@Hiznogood
The UK needs to get get the CV90 or KF41 to replace the Warrior.
Canada, to support our leapard 2s, could easily use 200 CV90s
seems we (the netherlands) wil also get some mortar version based on cv90
P.s. i noticed the Swedish troops deployed to Livonia recently had a new Cv90 variant.
Hi, Sweden-ball. Greetings from Poland-ball.☺

TO BAD HARPER CUT (CANCELLED PROGRAM) TO CUT MILITARY SPENDING. STUPID MOVE HARPER
Why it sells? because of MODULAIRITY.
There is 1 cv90 per squad
@SonsOfLorgar Two combat vehicles is better. The squad is not one, but two. Two guns. Double firepower, can act in pairs, cover each other. Two smaller heavy fighting vehicles.
Personally I would've wished we picked the KF41, but the CV90 is still a great pick for our army.
I'm much more iffy about the potential CV90120 investment, mainly because the army (to my knowledge) does not have a concept of a "light tank", and using it as an MBT seems to be quite a bad idea since it's much lighter protected.
Trump not like! LOL!
This is an extremely good and modern armored combat vehicle, but even it is not immune to FPV drones!
Advances in metalurgy, technology and such allow for much smaller sized weapons to still be effective against unarmored or even armored targets. Combine that with the abandonment of heavier armored vehicles for favor of mobility and staying power and you've got many less reasons to keep a bunch of MBT platoons.
If you are already so convinced about the product, btw the best foundation for a salesperson, why dont you ask them for some bling?
Haha well I’m not here for bling. I promote things I believe in on principle. Not for fame or gain.
I'm not saying the CV90 is bad, but I feel like if Matsimus loves that IFV so much he should just marry it. I'd like invitations to the wedding, but what on earth would the children look like?
Imagine a ww2 RAM Cangaroo but with a CV90 hull and turret cage and someone welded the wheel axles and the train legs of a C3 105mm howitzer onto the turret ring😂
I think the main reason is because germany reserves all boxer and lynx for the mainfighting force of europe.
