$1,200 for a pound of sweet pepper at the Savanna-la-Mar Market. The government needs to regulate the price of vegetable, fruits and ground provision both at the local markets and at the big supermarkets. The market vendors and supermarket owners are making all the money, while the farmers who put in all the hard work, get little or nothing. The farmers need to know how much mark up the market vendors are putting on the produce. It is ridiculous!
We need farmers' markets and other selling-directly-to-consumers programmes all across the island. The farmers should capture the largest share of the retail food dollar. In the United States, about 18 cents of the retail food dollar stay at the farm gate. Processors, retailers, wholesalers and distributors capture the lion's share of the retail food dollar. Organized, collective marketing initiatives by small farmers would make a difference.
The rule and Regulations Jamaica abides by and sign to does not allow government interference in the market. But they can provide information which is what they are doing. So for those who have the interest will make decisions when spending. I always try my utmost best to buy directly from farmers.

Food Retailer's Should Be Charged For Padding Prices.. IN The Market Place.. Such Actions Only Help.. IN Uplifting Inflationary Spiral 🐚 Damaging Our Jamaican Country's Economy.. Do You Agree 👍??
Minister of Agriculture should be fired, he is the reason why the food price is so high. Remember he was partying on rooftop with over 30 people during covid and told Jamaicans to have social distancing. There is so much vacant Agricultural land available and no food is on them, but you have Jamaicans going overseas to work on farms and we can't feed ourselves.
@paulsweetness6110 who is in charge of Agricultural in Jamaica? If a company is not making money, who are you going to blame management or the workers?
@@paulsweetness6110 they do, they just don’t care there was once a time when people used to go around in disguise and check the prices of foods and when they found anyone selling their foods more than what the government says it should be sold for the seller would get charged, or penalized ask your grandparents or some older folks who were around back then and they will definitely tell you, it’s true. The minister of Agriculture just too lazy to do his job.
Nobody in Jamaica YARD should be buying peppers cabbage callaloo or cucumbers U could literally grow this in a flower pot Ppl grow all of this on roof tops inna Farin Jamaica have abundant fertile lands goin waste 😡💢
Low the price for everything because our money is not worth any thing no one is not even using the one dollars again and to convert our money to is just as terrible

This is just another mouth piece taking he cannot do anything but just old talk about this and that that is all he is doing because they have to go by what the stake holders say about anything so don't be fooled people wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late

To show you how distant the government is from the people they quoting in kilograms. Yes supermarket use kilogram but most Jamaicans understand pound.
I was reading the comments to see if im the only one realise that this government is not for regular jamaicans.
I see 2 little cabbage in a supermarket for over $1000 it is so bad
2000$ for 1medium large cabbage in Pricesmart. Only a person who doesn't need to care about costs would buy.
200$ for same in UK
3x higher is price gouging. It's understandable if prices are little bit more during Christmas, but that much of a markup is madness
Plant unnu own vegetables in pots and pans.
Not supermarket alone every body. Best if the farmers come and sell their own products.
These higlers destroying the farmers.. reaping where they did not Sowe 😢.
