Thank you for the review. I have the Classic Pit Barrel and love it. Something to keep in mind..I use my Pit Barrel regularly. Uses a lot less coals. I’ve cooked everything from 26lb Turkey to 8 Bone Prime Rib and have done 8 Tritips at one time. If your not planning on cooking for 40 people go with Classic Cooker. Feeds a lot.
With the PBX could you smoke a whole turkey on the normal grate position and have the lid fit in place? Curious about this as I have heard you cannot do this with the PBC. Thanks
@@djhip oh man they would be awesome! My son has been asking me to smoke a turkey for thanksgiving and I have been wanting to purchase a Pitt Barrel Cooker.
I was gifted a pbx when originally I was looking at the 18.5 PBC. I dont plan on doing large cooks on a regular basis. Maybe 3 racks of ribs at the most for the family. The person gifitng me me the PBX probably thought bigger = better. My question- Have you used the PBX for smaller cooks and find that it works just as well as the PBC for that purpose? Every video I've seen so far has a fully loaded barrel so it's hard to tell if the PBX works just as well as the PBC for small cooks.
@@ri067953 I have not used my 18.5 since I got the PBX. So yes, works the same. Done one chicken, one pork butt, 2 racks of ribs, one rack of ribs, and even a meatloaf. All of those were individual cooks. You will be fine for small cooks and ready when you need to entertain brother!
hey man -- thanks for the video. Big favor: Whats the diameter of the firebasket for the bigger drum? And if you wouldnt mind, the height of strip of metal that holds the charcoal in. Is the diameter 22 inches or so?.
Just got a pbx. Bolts on bottom of lid make contact with middle rod prevent the lid from closing all the way. I gotta mess with it to get it in the right place. Called PB and they didn't seem concerned . Pretty annoying to say the least. Been using the original for years.
What accessories do you have/recommend for the pit barrel cooker? Also do you think if you had a PBJ that you’d be inclined to use it more as it’s more economical?
@@djhip Thanks I’ll get the ash pan. Have you ever used the pit barrel chimney starter? I heard it wasn’t very good so was thinking of getting the Weber compact chimney starter instead? Only problem is it’s slightly smaller than PBC one.
@@djhip Thanks just bought myself a pit barrel cooker in sale for £199. Got both those accessories and also cover, turkey hanger and hinged grate as he gave me some money off. The accessories were like £130 but everything in UK is more expensive.
@@Anteater23Sweet man! It will become your favorite cooker! Have had MANY grills over the last 35 years and the PBC is by far the best I have ever used. Have a great weekend!
Do the bolt heads on your dolly/cart cause the barrel to sit uneven or damage the bottom of your barrel? I just happen to notice the bolt heads, since they stick up, would not allow the barrel to sit flush inside the dolly/cart, correct? Basically, the barrel is sitting on those bolt heads and not the actual dolly/cart?
I would just say bigger. Cooks the same as the PBC. I host a lot of BBQ (well, I used to. Stupid Covid). You can cook a lot of food on the PBC. But you can cook a shit ton of food on the PBX!
Usually I fill the basket and then chimney 20ish coals. After 20ish minutes I dump on top of the basket and smoke away. Lots of vids on diff methods on UA-cam. Snake method, fire starter direct in the basket, etc...

I use pizza pans from Wolly World for ash pans in my PBC. They are around $6 a pizza pan and last around 5 years before needing replaced.
badass comment
Point me to it please lol
What size?
16 inches
@@rototiller78 can I ask what the benefit is? I just bought the pbc today
Solid vid brother! My neighbor has the classic and I just ordered two PBX. Definitely wanted to see the difference
It rocks for sure! Highly recommend the ash pan.
@@djhip thinking about getting the pbx. I have the pbc. But I'm thinking if I do a rib feast I could fit alot of ribs all at once. At least 16-20
Thanks wanted to see how much bigger it was and now I know selling my og pit Barrel and getting the PBX 😁
Reading numbers didn't really help. Thank you for the side by side.. Do I need the PBC XL... Probably not, but now I want one 😀
Yeah, I did not really "need" it, but it is so much fun! :P
Great vid nice to see size comparison
Nice video. How do you like using the drum dolly for the original PBX?
Love it. It gets too hot in my back yard so I smoke in the driveway. Wheel it out when I need it.

Absolutely. 2 for sure, maybe 3! I will buy a turkey and post up. Wanted to do this anyway.

Thanks for this! What size drum trolley do you use for the PBX?
You bet!. 50 gallon. Search on Amazon, they will come up.

You can feed the whole neighborhood with that.

Is the ash catcher worth it or not necessary?
IMO totally worth it.

17.5 and 4" bro on the charcoal basket.

That is weird. Just checked and bolts protrude less than 1/4" and it is 1.5" from rebar to top of lid. No way for them to make contact on mine. (?)

Nope. Barrel sits flush on both carts. Bolts on the inside and they do not touch the bottom of the barrel.

$500 for that pbx? LOL!!!
A lot cheaper than a pellet grill. And better IMO. Although I just have the regular PBC.
I love the barrel smoker concept, but these barrels from PBC just look too cheap for my taste. There are so many options of better quality.
