Hey, you remind me of me. After 40yrs of woodworking decided to stop. For me it was time i"m 74. Made many projects many I still have in my home. Now I like watching woodworking videos like yours. Will keep watching.
I’m laughing (although with joy), cuz you are about to be inundated with tons (literally) of baby, then toddler, then little kid ... middle schooler sports gear, more bikes and scooters, teenager gear, etc!!! Plan on getting another shed sooner than later. 😊 And a minivan! But it will all be worth it when she snuggles into you for a bedtime story or a feeding or that hug after you walk her down the aisle. (Now I made myself cry.) I’m so thrilled for your family. Sweet baby Bates has finally arrived. Congratulations to all of you. ❤️
It so awesome having a shop...Every man needs one...I wish I could stay up 24/7 and just do shit in there...Your shop is sweet and killer organized... I've been a remodeling contractor for over 30 years and I just can't work in the field like I used to... The shop gives you alternate. ...I love building custom solutions for projects...e.g. Narrow vanities, radiator covers, multi lite window frame repairs etc... Plus it's a great place to get away from the old lady...:)
Jay i just wanted to thank you for always putting out great content. I have learned so so much from your channel. You are always very insightful and i can tell how much passion word working gives you. One of best channels on UA-cam, hands down. Thanks for everything through the years my friend! Congrats on the baby, you guys are going to be great parents!!
It’s making my head spin, all the activities we can do. Great job on the shop updates and the storage shed. I have a small 1-car shop/storage space and I have been making everything mobile just to be able to move around.
Jay, I love your shop set up. I'm a beginning woodworker and also in a wheelchair (amputee). In the process of making my very 1st Work bench like yours. These casters would be perfect for me as well in making more room when needed. Been watching you since the beginning when you were in the apartments complex...love your content.
Hey Jay I am also in the middle of something similar for the layout of my shop. One of my projects I am working on to save on space is taking a already existing table and adding castors similar to what you did, but what I did was make it 1/8” lower then my table saw and use it as an out feed table. This way I can just roll my work bench away when I am done at the table saw. Works for me and saves on space. Good luck love the videos.
That shed addition is outstanding. It’s great that you had room for it on your property. I have the same wood racks but different brands. They are outstanding and, as you showed, very strong and easy to install. I’m like you, I’d rather make furniture instead of shop projects but right now, because I put off making the shop projects I’m having to make a work bench and some cabinets. I’m hoping to get back to making furniture soon. Looking forward to your new CNC.
I can’t believe how much space you were able to gain from rearranging. Looking forward to the business announcement. And most importantly how are the new Mom and Dad doing !!!! Congratulations buddy! So happy for you guys!!
If you're not going to run power out to your storage shed, you might consider a set or two of those inexpensive solar LED lights w/motion detectors that Harbor Freight sells. The 30 LED version is only $20. Instant lights and no wiring hassles. Can't wait to see what is coming to your shop with all the new space you've got! Blessings to your new family!
Like some of the other comments, I'm surprised there was no insulation on your shed. This change really has added more than just space to your business. Congrats on the baby. Hope you all are getting at least a little sleep.
As your style, methods, and products change, so will your workspace needs. I rearrange my shop a little from one project to the next. Gotta stay versatile.
Nice shed and the shop is looking very organized. Myself, I probably would put some supports under the wood racks. Like the 2x4s used for the spacing at 3:15 There's a lot of weight on those racks. 👍
By far I have enjoyed your furniture builds more than the shop stuff and have the impression that it is in building furniture that you realy shine. So looking forward to see what all these changes will bring. Thank you for inspiring and educating us
If you find you need to gain more wall space, you could store those pipes under the shed capping or taping the ends to keep rodents out. Congrats again on the new edition to the family!
Hello Jay, thank you for your illustrative videos, that a lot helps us for people who are starting in the woodwork or that as I am a fanatic or we have this beautiful hobby, regards from Veracruz, Mexico.
I was going to call it when the baby girl announcement came (congrats again Jay!) My words: everything is gonna get mobile! Why? Cause the minivan w/ the car seat needs more space in the garage! ...at least that's what happened to me... 😥
I can’t believe that osage orange moisture content isn’t down to ambient for your area. The pecan might need a little time yet. Thanks for the mention. Lots of respect for you. Always working and always thinking about better ways to work.
The casters are a great idea. I am setting up my workshop with the same casters. One thing you should consider, Rockler sells just the brackets for the casters allowing you to share casters easily among different workbenches, tables, etc. It will also save space. You can remove the casters and stick them in a drawer until needed. Believe it or not you will walk around your bench and kick that caster. Also by using the bracket it is less expensive.
I added vertical 2x4’s on the outside of my plywood rack which allows me to lean pieces out of the way when digging through the stack. Makes it much easier to get to the piece on the bottom of the stack (which always the piece you need).
Jay, I modified my miter saw station to make it quit easy to do mitered cuts without the boards. I had a project at a nuclear plant that required fire retardant fabric. Its looks basically like black tarp. I cut it to fit and left it loose in key areas. I can swing my saw in any direction now and still maintain the pull for dust collection.
Looks a great storage shed! Would just keep an eye on condensation issues, looks like a metal cladding! I would be inclined to put pipe lagging between the timber and metal supports to avoid water staining on the lower faces! More importantly... Enjoy being a Daddy! Best wishes.
So much room for activities! You need to say that with more excitement. Good video, I'm really interested in what you come up with on the folding out-feed table. I've been doing some adjustment in my shop as well and have just realized where I put my table saw my out-feed table is higher on the far side than the side attached to the table saw because of the garage floor. I was planning to replace the legs (or shorten them) and add adjustable feet, but the thought of a folding out-feed surface would provide some nice occasionally open space. I really look forward to baby furniture videos. Congratulations again.
Bringing the South I bet that shed is going to be extremely hot and humid. It’s too bad you couldn’t locate it adjacent to your garage. Easier to electrify, closer to wood supply and you could even add AC. Best of luck with remodel of your shop.
I love the addition of the shed for storage. But my question is whether you've found issues with thermal and humidity swings? I live in Michigan, so bare metal walls heating and cooling like that would create condensation issues during most seasons. Summer would create just an oven effect that would likely result in checking. Are you finding this problem and, if so, how are you addressing it?
What's the wet season like there? Seems like it might be a huge PITA to trudge out to the shed when the ground is completely sodden and the grass is growing 2" a day. I ask this because a couple of years ago I had a bunch of stuff stored in a caravan and we had two straight months of rain. I felt like I should have been putting swim fins on every time I went out to get something.
I’d definitely put the plywood rack on casters. This way you can wheel it to the front of the shed. Load it from the truck and wheel it back. Otherwise your walking an extra 25 ft 20 times. Which is a lot of wasted walking and time
I really like my SawStop folding out feed table, it only takes a half hour or so to install. I use large Velcro wire ties to hold the legs in the folded position. Then it takes just seconds to set it up. Since it’s attached to the saw it moves with it. I’m jealous of the portable building, it looks great.
So your wood is stored outside in probably one of the most humid regions in the US. I'm not very educated on just how much humidity can affect wood, do you have any further insight on the subject? How long does wood take to acclimate back to a usable level? Doe humidity only impose superficial changes or deep changes to the wood? Those are some of the questions I have.... Thanks for ALLLLLLLLL the videos! You are a great resource to the woodworking community!
Shed is and will continue to be a big plus. With the new addition to the family you might be surprised how much eventually ends up in there next to the bikes. Speaking as a Grandpa living with 4 of his 9 grandkids. Just sayin’.
I suspect your shop will be de-converted to a garage the first time mama has to mess with a car seat in the rain. Good trade off though. Looking forward to a Diresta-like shop build in your back yard.
Excellent video Jay. Congratulations to you family regarding your daughter! My daughter is about to have her first child, a daughter, and we are all excited! We have a grandson and granddaughter already from my son and daughter in law and they are the light of our lives. The newest addition should be here in 10 days or less..... I desperately need to clean out my garage and move some stuff into a shed and the one I have is tiny.... What brand shed did you buy and where can I get one? I also plan to move in the future and need something I can take with me. The rest of the clean out and changes, updates, etc, made a huge difference. It really tuned out well! Thanks for the video and some ideas. Ron
I keep quite a bit of open space in my workshop for the assembly and progression of larger projects. When you're not working on one the space looks silly, but when you need it you've never got enough. The trouble with UA-cam is that the format encourages small projects to fit in one small video. This is not how everyone works. Glad you've moved to making more fine furniture. Looking forward to the videos.
The workshop looks so different with the workbenches pushed to one side. I didn’t see that the storage shed had electricity run to it. Is that not a need or will it be a future project?
Hay hay your orginizional you did in your last video looks great.Jay so when will you be adding the ridgid brushless battery operated 23 gag nailer on your tools list on your list man.As I would love to have one now then.
I vote for a Pecan Poker table.... for that plywood rack I personally would have built in the ability for pallet forks to be used with say like a fold able pallet truck. when loaded. otherwise very Nice setup.
A question re plywood storage: do you find your plywood warping and bowing if you leave it stored, even against a flat surface, for long periods of time?
I was wondering if you had shared the size or cost of your shed? I'm new, to your channel, so maybe that's a separate video. I was just curious. I'm looking in to one for a similar reason, and would have to figure out some sort of foundation situation as well up here in NY.
That's my biggest problem is no room when I'm building anything I wish I had a place for wood storage I have 3 garages but 2 are on another property down the road but there full of stuff I don't want in my shop like a boat a bronco and a bunch of motorcycles lol I am thinking of building another shop double mine but then still I wish I had the room for one more for wood maybe someday I do plan on moving to the country someday
Jay I realize this video is a year old so I don't know if you will respond or not. However my question is, did you frame the inside of the storage shed or did it come that way? I really enjoy your channel 👍
Thank you for the video! What do you think about the idea of making the below shelf 4:22 more heavy duty? Maybe some support sticks under them connected to wall. Thanks again. Great job!
How and when will you make a ramp/stairs for getting into the shed? The step looks a bit high and it must be making your legs tired when having to come up and down a few times. Maybe a roling ramp, like the U-haul trucks have...

I’m laughing (although with joy), cuz you are about to be inundated with tons (literally) of baby, then toddler, then little kid ... middle schooler sports gear, more bikes and scooters, teenager gear, etc!!! I’m so thrilled for your family. Sweet baby Bates has finally arrived. Congratulations to all of you. ❤️
Can't wait to see the baby furniture builds and more as she gets older over the years. Congrats on the new family member!!!
Shop organization videos are the new shop project videos. I enjoy how you're constantly thinking about streamlining and work flow.

It’s making my head spin, all the activities we can do.

Castors
@@Andy-in8ej ~ Caster or castor, both are acceptable according to dictionaries. Rockler spells it "caster".
Hey Jay I am also in the middle of something similar for the layout of my shop. Interesting. I had not considered that. Thank you.
Well now I know what I'm buying today. I've been looking for something like that too.
That's been on my list for a long time, but hasn't been a huge priority. Thanks for the reminder.
Like some of the other comments, I'm surprised there was no insulation on your shed. This change really has added more than just space to your business. Congrats on the baby. Hope you all are getting at least a little sleep.
Congratulations on the new baby and the organization good luck
All that extra space is going to be a game changer. Really excited to see what's in store for the future. Hope all is well.
As your style, methods, and products change, so will your workspace needs. I rearrange my shop a little from one project to the next. Gotta stay versatile.
Having my own shop and shed like that is my dream I'm so happy I found this video it us more inspiration for me
Thought of it and your very last words..... SO much more room for activities! Love it. Great job and amazing changes to make your life easier!

New baby girl in house and Jay starts cleaning. The nesting instinct hits dads too; I shoulda predicted it. So excited for what's coming...
I was going to call it when the baby girl announcement came (congrats again Jay!) My words: everything is gonna get mobile! Why? Cause the minivan w/ the car seat needs more space in the garage! ...at least that's what happened to me... 😥
Its a shame you dont currently enjoy shop projects. Yours are some of very best on youtube imo.
Awesome video. Was hoping to see some pics or video of that beautiful new baby of yours. Congrats again!!!
I can’t believe that osage orange moisture content isn’t down to ambient for your area. The pecan might need a little time yet. Thanks for the mention. Lots of respect for you. Always working and always thinking about better ways to work.
Well done with the addition to the family. I can see father / daughter in the shop videos on the way
Congrats on the shop improvements and the bigger family!

I was just gonna suggest those to Jay as well. One set of casters, 4 different bench/tools to mount them on. $30 vs. $80-100. Can't beat that!!
I added vertical 2x4’s on the outside of my plywood rack which allows me to lean pieces out of the way when digging through the stack. Makes it much easier to get to the piece on the bottom of the stack (which always the piece you need).
Wow the space you got now and thank you for your stickers I finally received them thank you
Good video Jay! I've seen people add a bar between those casters that make them up down even easier.
Sweet shed, bro! Nice reorganization of your shop space.
Congratulations on the baby! So very cool!
Jay, I modified my miter saw station to make it quit easy to do mitered cuts without the boards. I had a project at a nuclear plant that required fire retardant fabric. Great job on your organization
When we make more room in our shops it’s like Christmas!!
What a great addition to your shop!
You change shop layouts more than I change socks! Ha ha. Good video, Jay! Nothing can stop you now.
Love those Rockler casters, Jay
Looks a great storage shed! Would just keep an eye on condensation issues, looks like a metal cladding! I would be inclined to put pipe lagging between the timber and metal supports to avoid water staining on the lower faces! More importantly... Enjoy being a Daddy! Best wishes.
Maybe I missed something? Mississippi Lions & Redwings? Love the Redwings handles!
Very nice job, the out building is a valuable piece to have, I have one that's 20x24 sitting on concrete slab. Really enjoy your channel, thanks.
Excited to see whats to come Jay!
Jay you’ll do anything to reorganize that shop! Lol excited for what’s coming!
Nice casters. Nice shed. More organized space = more organized thoughts.

All this time I have been watching you, I never knew you were in Mississippi. I’m in Forest, MS.
I am a little jealous. that shed is like twice the size of my shop LOL
So much room for activities!
Looking forward to your take on the combo planner/jointer,hope to see it as your old tool review videos.
Watching this in 2021, Jay said “$50 per sheet” those were the days!!

Those casters look pretty damn nice
498,060. Almost to 500k, nice. I’m convinced that woodworkers can never have enough storage and organization.
Cool Caters, I am ordering some for my benches !
Excellent video Jay. Congratulations to you family regarding your daughter! My daughter is about to have her first child, a daughter, and we are all excited! I believe in mobility in the shop. What is your main workbench made of? Is that the hickory one?

A Red Wings and Lions fan in Mississippi. You must have relocated from Michigan.
Yup. Livonia.
Step brothers quoted at the end made me chuckle “so much room for activity’s”
Good Work Jay💯💯🎯
Like to see a good craftsman at work. have you a video on making a work bench.
The workshop looks so different with the workbenches pushed to one side. I didn’t see that the storage shed had electricity run to it. Is that not a need or will it be a future project?
great job sir but one thing missing..u had to paint that floor with some anti scratch or metallic paint..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😉
Jay, love the videos. Could you just take the top of the current out feed table and hinge it to your table saw rather than redesigning or buying in?
I bet that osage orange would also make a good bar top for a standalone bar.
Sold me on those casters. Just bought em. :)
Rockler needs to get into the uk!!
Are you concerned about heat or humidity variation in the shed? It seems like this metal building Could get very very hot.
Ok, so i'll be the one to ask. Any worries that the wood being direct inside the window?
Cardboard has solved that issue.
Adam M was going to say the same thing till I read your post, sun would bleach them in time for sure
A question re plywood storage: do you find your plywood warping and bowing if you leave it stored, even against a flat surface, for long periods of time?
Looks great. Time for me to get into my shop and have a very very very productive day. :-)
I was wondering if you had shared the size or cost of your shed? I'm new, to your channel, so maybe that's a separate video. I was just curious. I'm looking in to one for a similar reason, and would have to figure out some sort of foundation situation as well up here in NY.
Jay, thanks for great video. Is your shop a standard two car garage?
Possible epoxy floor in the future? Wood Floor? Many possibilities.
I'd epoxy it. Then you don't have to worry about maintaining a seal on the wood when you park a dripping car inside during a hurricane.
@@TheOneWhoMightBe How about a floor that looks like it's a wood floor, oooooooohhhh. Lol. That would take waaay too long
That's my biggest problem is no room when I'm building anything I wish I had a place for wood storage I have 3 garages but 2 are on another property down the road but there full of stuff I don't want in my shop like a boat a bronco and a bunch of motorcycles lol I am thinking of building another shop double mine but then still I wish I had the room for one more for wood maybe someday I do plan on moving to the country someday
Great info. Thank you.
Great job!
Never realized you were from Mississippi!!! I live in Natchez!
Is the weather heat cold wind humidity going to think the wood in the shed?
if you don't mind me asking what did that shed cost and who makes it ? I'm looking for something just that size and material for a feed shed
How and when will you make a ramp/stairs for getting into the shed? The step looks a bit high and it must be making your legs tired when having to come up and down a few times. Maybe a roling ramp, like the U-haul trucks have...
It seems to me that your out feed table will be up , more than down. Just sayin , thanks for all you do.
