So here's my question. I've been a driver, not a steering wheel holder, for almost 30 years and now a mechanic for almost 4. I was always taught that when checking the drag link that it should not rock unless you use a lot of force. I worked for CTI trucking for 1 week as a mechanic and i could rock one around with 1 finger. I was told I was wrong and this didn't need to be replaced. So now I am questioning my past training. The question is am i right or is CTI right?
Castle nut broke loose easy cuz Petes are like dodges they have self lubricaters for every thing under the motors everything gets coated in oil and diesel
I don't have access to compressed air where I park my tractor therefore I can't use an air hammer and I ain't paying three times as much for the proper puller tool to separate my drag link on my Freightliner Century. I boogered the threads when I hit mine with a hammer trying to separate it. Pickle forks, oxy-acetylene, and many minutes with a 4 lb Sledge to no avail. In fact, all my efforts loosened the pitman arm off the steering gearbox. If I can't get the boogered nut onto the boogered ball stud that I'm just going to torch the damn thing off and buy a new one for $155.00. The tool store down the street from me wants like $375.00 for some kind of puller. I don't think so. I'm pretty sure professional mechanics would use an air hammer with a pickle fork attachment.
