On comprend chaque syllabe. Ingeborg Mayodon
I agree 101%!!!! I have been listening to this "Lied" on-and-off for the past 50 years and I am always thrilled and moved when I have the possibility to listen this rendition (of course other artists, as well!). But I think Wunderlich does a fantastic job on it and he is one of the best!
Still as of January 09, 2018 Fritz singing has never been overtaken by any singer in the world. I will continue to love him and admire his way of singing with no excess nor deficiency in it. Wonderful !! Wonderful !!
"Adelaide" ist ein Gedicht von Friedrich von Matthisson. Der Dichter sagte Beethoven: Oft vertont - Aber Ihre Vertonung ist es! Recht hat der Dichter! Und Fritz Wunderlich bringt es. Dichter und Komponist wären stolz auf ihn.
Wenn ich adelaide höre dann muss ich an wunderlich denken, und der schmerz dieses tragischen verlustes eines der besten tenöre erfüllt mich mit grosser traurigkeit
Thank you for posting this, Joana! The German lyrics of this beautiful song were written by Friedrich von Matthisson (1761-1831). He was a contemporary of Beethoven (1770-1827). Lonely strolls your friend in the vernal garden, Softly flooded by lovely light of magic, That flits through swaying boughs in bloom, Adelaide! In the stream's reflection, the snows of the Alps, In the gold-billowing clouds of eventide, In the sphere of the stars, there shines your image, Adelaide! Eve’s gentle breeze rustles in tender leaves, Lilies of the valley whisper in the grass, Waves murmur, and nightingales sing and trill: Adelaide! Once, oh miracle! there springs from my grave A flower from the ashes of my heart; Clearly glistens on each purple little leaf: Adelaide! (Translation by Thomas K. Geydan. December 8, 2017)
Most beautiful lyric tenor in recorded history. Such a tragic loss. I wept when hearing of Jeff Buckley's death. I'm sure I would also have wept if I'd been old enough to have known Wunderlich's voice before his death.
this piece is rearded as the LIEDER to sing if one is a tenor. every REAL fan knows this piece along with the first song cycle ever by anyone by ludwig 'an die ferne geliebte'!!! now thats a song!! cheers
Imo, A very beautiful lyric voice which never reached it's full potential, as he died when he was 35 or 36 years old. There's so much evidence that he would achieved more greatness that was evidenced at such an early age.
Franco.
They are so great, ideals for this great Lied,l believe it's impossible to compare. , TWO GREAT TENORS and l repeat impossible to compare. TWO GREAT and POSSIBILY BEST TENORS..
Pianist was H Giesen. Also this piece is a song about an attainable woman. Since Beethoven had never been married. He must have put quite a bit of thoughts, efforts and soul in this. I think this is one of the greatest romantic piece performed by the greatest performers.
Certainly better that DFD - if you want a baritone, then Hermann Prey is the one to go for. Among tenors, Bjorling and Wunderlich take the palm, though Karl Erb is not to be overlooked.
l love both, Fritz and Nicolai but l prefer Fritz and Jussy, their voices bring my soul until the infinite with the great help of marvelous Beethoven. This piece is also a wonder for the pianist, l adore it
Of course Barry, They have been the greatest between the greatest, especially singing Beethoven. They are gone , well we shall go some day. Jonas Kaufmann in a different way also gives me a wonderful feeling, the voice is of another quality but l recognize that even if l have pretty good knowledge of the music he sings ,l always l find something new and rich in his interpretation. Of course we have to admit some new singers, they are not too many... Thanks Barbara for her comments.

I'm hoping someone has saved a lock of his hair somewhere, so that when cloning becomes legal we might bring this unbelievable voice back. All other tenor voices pale in comparison. I first heard his voice back in 1966, and have never heard another like it since. The great countertenor, John Ferrante, said Fritz had the best tenor voice of all time, nowhere is this more evident than in Lieder, where there is only a piano and a voice and nowhere to hide any flaws in your German, or voice, or phraseology, or interpretation.
Thanks. I posted some Wunderlich myself, and other great opera pieces- you might care to see them. Bjorling was great indeed, but I personally prefer Wunderlich :)
Good heavens! Such beauty, purity, genius. Poet, composer, singer, pianist: thank you. My heart melts.
In my opinion Wunderlich was the greatest tenor ever, taken from us oh so too early.
Bravo Fritz!
Fritz Wunderlich, what an ubelievable voice. What an absolute diamond throat. Majestic, beautiful angelic. I hope I can hear him live in heaven.

Beautiful voice. Gone too soon. Please everyone, be careful when you go down the stairs.
His interpretation of this song is definitive. It's beauty beyond measure.
Kraftvoll und wunderschön. Keiner kann es besser singen !!!

Petra Trenkle Sie haben es gesagt! Nur die Wahrheit.
God bless you, Fritz Wunderlish!
When perfection meets perfection.
Wunderlich has the perfect mix of qualities in his voice, warmth, resonance, he has it all. I say has because he lives in his music.
Must be the greatest love song ever.Composed by a genius and sung by a genius.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video and all the images of Mr. Wunderlich! Have enjoyed his voice for 30+ years.
Most beautful song with most beautiful voice!
one of the tenors ever exited.

Fritz interpretation is so tender and deep with emotional colors as is all his songs and arias
I feel in love with Beethoven by this song! Ah! (Sigh) Viele danke, Wunderlich, du bist wunderbar!
His voice is so romantic and crystal claer.
The most beautiful song, The most beautiful voice!
Still as of January 09, 2018 Fritz singing has never been overtaken by any singer in the world. I will continue to love him and admire his way of singing with no excess nor deficiency in it. Wonderful !! Wonderful !!
Beethoven's best song. Das beste Lied von Beethoven, ohne Zweifel...
Und dennoch mit Fritz Wunderbarlich.
This song never dies even if I listened when I was young and now am old enough to love again.
Zeitlose Schönheit

Wunderbar! Ganz hervorragend!
Best version for ever berecho

Extraordinary!
Aria sublime! Un saludo fraterno al mundo desde Bolivia!!!
Adelheid beautiful and wonderfull
Beautiful interpretation. None of the excess of so many modern singers.
Probely the best lovesong for ever!
It seems to counterbalance all the negative images men are getting in society these days. It shows the best they can be. Mary

Es ist unglaublich shoen ! Dieses Stueck verzaubert mich ....................
Wunderlich? Wunderbar!
So beautiful. I'm surprised that this piece of Beethoven's isn't a bit more well known
Bravo. The best!!!

Wow, heaven, purely!
The entire lied is pure romance, but specifically 2:00-2:32 is everlasting in my heart.
Simply wonderful, singer and pianist. Sencillamente maravillosos, cantante y pianista
Amazing singing, but amazing piano too. It's like a duet.
DIVINE!!!Viellen Danken!!!
Preciosa canción maravillosamente interpretada.
God bless you, Fritz Wunderlish
Precioso gracias.😊
Absolutely celestial. One of the best tenors ever.
Punkt.
Such a beauty Fritz Wunderlich shows how this lovely song should be sung but others are not Fritz.
IMPRESIONANTE
Magnificently sung.TY JB for this very special posting.
Best tenor in the world ! Gone Far too early ❤
@steakopera
Wunderlich is incredible. such beauty.
Only Jussie can match this way of singing. Unbelievable
I think there are a lot of similarities between these two, aren't there?
Er war von Gott gesegnet. Mühelos bewältigte er alle Schwierigkeiten des Gesangs.

What a sweet voice! What a performance! It's better than that of Fischer-Dieskau's, to me.
Not that I'm the biggest fan of the 'better than' game at the higher levels, but for what it's worth, reality agrees with you.
Thank you. I must add the accompaniment is superb. I wonder who the pianist would be. Gerald Moore? Can anyone help?

in that case I think you've yet to discover what makes Jussi so great. They were gods in each their own fields, so to speak.
Fritz sings Adelaide perfectly! Jussi is almost there!
What a shame he left us too soon.

Yes, so it was.....
More dreamy than Jussi who is more passionate--almost equal really.
Wunderlich would have made Beethoven to joy in delight and Bjorling would have moved Beethoven to shed tears.
Well said. Mary
