Kea: I think I've figured these 2-legged walkers out, every time I nick something they make this 'nonononononono' sound, very interesting creatures, let me mess with them some more.
I appreciate the man for a very appropriate attitude towards Kea. He was talking to her and he was trying to discourage her from dismantling the car but without any force !!!!
Was my frist thought: Just shut the goddamn car door, for lord's sake und I know Keas are under protection, so you may not be to rough with them, but I thing scaring it away would be legit, to prevent damage at your car. Also, when you know you will pass through an area where they are, just take s.t. for them to eat with you and provide it. They will be busy for a while and thank you. A mix of butter/fat, some nuts and a bit cereal is good (or at least okay) for them.
I'm glad you see them as they are... A very intelligent beautiful bird whom has a taste for being extremely cheeky n curious, yes they are destructive --> but it's not like the car was made with Kea's in mind or you would be driving a tank 😂😂😂
They're so curious!! Which is such an indicator of high intelligence. They're exploring unknown objects in their environment. They're also very, very playful & cheeky. Such special birds. I really hope we're able to reverse the damage we've done to the environment to save more animals like this. 💛
Kea: "I see this car has been momentarily abandoned, guess he doesn't need these door seals." And as a Kiwi, I would die to see fuel prices back down at $1.97 again, currently $2.30 a litre.
Well your wish came true! People around the world are dying from coronavirus and as a result the fuel prices have dropped significantly, congratulations!
Ya. Birds are smart. They have discovered that people will throw french fries, peanuts, bread etc. In order to "distract" them from the neoprene. This is a video of bird blackmail!
A lot of the fuel tax goes towards our roading . As you may have noticed with the lack of Vehicles on the road and the terrain these roads negotiate these funds are spread very thinly hence the extreme price of fuel .
watching some vids recently about these buggers - pretty clever. As that bird hopped onto the car and then looking in the door I was thinking 'wonder if he left the keys in there...?
@@kiwiingrid just because it's the illegal to own them doesn't mean that people don't try and raise up little ones and then release them if a mother gets killed by a car or cat or something like that or a dog I mean you're not going with the babies die. You can see it with the koalas over in Australia that there's koalas that they've been raised up by humans cuz the mothers were gone and they release them to the wall while they're the ones that come and ask for water in and get out on the patio speakers they remember there's thirsty there hot and they remember in the back of their mind as a Joey as an infant those places were safe people think animals don't have memories but they do. Now she could have also been somebody's pet when they weren't supposed to have her as a pet and then she got released. People do stuff they're not supposed to all the time also.
This one looks & behaves exactly how the wild ones do. Kea evolved with no natural predators & they're not afraid of humans. They're also incredibly, incredibly curious & playful. It's basically their whole personality. You're not allowed to keep them as pets in Aotearoa (NZ) & risk hefty fines. They're also not easy to keep as pets - they're super social & can stop eating & die of depression if isolated. They also require so much constant enrichment that you'd need a very, very, VERY large aviary to keep even one & if you kept one in your home you can look forward to having every single item in your house absolutely demolished the very first moment you look away. In fact, they will happily destroy everything even while looking directly at you. They can easily open cabinets, fridge doors, chest freezers, breaking windows, so they'll have a really great time tearing apart food packages & pushing breakables off counters for the sheer fun of it. Their hookbills & talons are amazingly strong & they will happily pull apart electronics & fabrics & gouge holes in solid timber. I can't think of a single household item a kea wouldn't make a game out of destroying. There are some kea in zoos/breeding programs (mostly to repopulate these guys as they're endangered) but also for conservation education. But like I said, you would have to be unbelievably stupid to try & keep one as a household pet PLUS it's likely that you wouldn't be able to hide it. & as kiwis love these guys so much, as soon as a neighbour knew you had one, they'd probably dob you into the authorities. We're happy to look the other way with a lot of stuff, but 99.99% of kiwis wouldn't tolerate someone messing with a kea. It's one of those local unspoken things. But even if you tried to - there's really no untraining their curious nature. They see destruction as play. If you had one in your house you'd spend a literal fortune on plumbers, electricians, new furniture, replacing food, everything, not to mention they are genius's at escape & will do it just for the challenge. Nothing's off limits. 🤪
A koala, even a kangaroo, heck - even a CROCODILE would make a much easier household guest than a kea. They're by & large predictable & semi-trainable. You can train a kea to do all kinds of amazing things, but you can't train them OUT OF their natural curiosity & appetite for destructive play. You need to kind of lean into that with kea. Which means you would need an environment with constant monitoring, & nearly unlimited resources & enrichment. Think of living with an anarchist, flying toddler on unlimited cocaine, armed with multiple Swiss army knives.
1:41 I can totally tell Kea got frustrated from being told “hey sh sh sh no” - from trying to push his finger back, lifting it’s neck and leaving to another side of the car 1:45 - 1:59 Kea is actively avoiding human so it can work in peace. 2:00 Gives a “Wtf do you want from me!??” look at human.
