Yes I always buy cheap HDMI leads from The Range or Poundland. Lighter so less strain on the sockets. It’s a digital signal, it’s either there or it isn’t.
Trouble is with most HDMI connections is the lack of physical - mind you, the same can be said with many types of USB connectors. Just relying on the solder to support the socket, and with modern surface mounts, coupled with a more brittle solder, the socket only needs to be tugged a few times for it to fail. Not so bad with a cheap flexible HDMI cable, but the thick expensive ones place all the stress on the socket. The same applies with usb, the stiffer the cable, the larger amount of stress transferred to the socket. Lack of mechanical support.
Allen, I am not surprised about HDMI cables, I was told never to buy cheap ones but I have loads that just don't/never have worked, there must be something fundamentally wrong with them, I know the old scart sockets were flakey sometimes but you could always get them to work...any ideas..cheers Steve
As I've said before, I'm a charity shop electrical tester and test dozens of TVs every month. I'm glad there's not a window in front of my testing bay or I'd've thrown a good few TVs out of it over the last year or so.
A lad I worked with many years ago attended a PAT testing course with me. A few months later, we were asked to PAT test everything at work. He started in the main offices and flash tested every computer in the design office ( about 7 or 8) Management were not pleased on the Monday morning. 😂😂
@matthewlawrenson3628 So what you are saying Mat, is that you are both, 👉 incompetent, and👉 impatient. Thats a crying shame man.😭 Maybe you could start a rock band 😎or something...
Don't forget the UK has a 6 year warranty, Scotland wanted to be special so its 5. Not sure how that helps, but hey ho. Argos should have swapped this FOC, but I guess we wouldn't have had a video out of it.
InTeReStiNg that the (3) suspect leads "seemed" to have affected the picture in a similar way? But I have no knowledge of HDMI systems so.. As my stepmom would say; "it's better to be quiet and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt" Thanks Mom! ㋛ Good video. ALWAYS ⒾⓃⓉⒺⓇⒺⓈⓉⒾⓃⒼ. Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd house on the left.
Bush, alba TV are from the same manufacturer and a bush TV remote can work on a alba tv and a alba remote can work on a bush tv which is owned by argos, Sainsbury's own brand
Hi there, in your opinion which is the best reliable make/brand out there when it comes to 55 inch options / at the moment I have a Samsung UE55NU8000 had it five years nothing has gone wrong touch wood please let me know
I have a UE48Jsomething, 8 years old and I've replaced the LEDs this year. It just gets dumber and dumber, the screen is fine and I think a Chromecast or fire stick or similar is the way to go. Samsung long term software support is terrible, I'd rather have something I can update.
I see something similar rebuilding older gaming pcs, the HDMI standard is not as compatible friendly friendly between Video Cards and Monitors / TVs / Projectors. Sometimes I get blacks screens. Ive had better compatibility using DisplayPort but the problem with that is not all devices have Displayport. So then your stuck with using Alternative video cards or Alternative Monitors. I usually like to keep around a cables from every type to test: hdmi, displayport, dvi, vga, video yellow jack
The first video that introduced me to this channel was a Sony tv repair, as I had an android loop on my Sony after 8 yrs of reliable service & didn't want to buy another TV as it still had a picture quality that blew modern tvs from other brands out of the water. I'm now an avid viewer here, & I'm thinking of having a go at repairing my Sony myself thanks to this channel 😊
What kind of HDMI cables do you suggest for 4k/hdr? We've got an annoying problem with a Samsung QN90A TV in so far as the first time you power it up for the day usually it wakes up, sky box turns on and it works. Usually if you turn it off though, it wont come on a second time. Just sits at a no signal screen. The 'fix' is to unplug and replug the HDMI cable, which is really annoying because its too fidly for other family members, or power the whole lot off at the wall, which is annoying becuase the sky box takes so long to boot. Is this some known issue? Sky and Samsung are blaming each other so I wonder if I just have a bad cable?
Any certified 4K or 8K HDMI cable should be fine. The 8K cables is what you want because they're 2.1 which I think your TV has 2.1 HDMI ports. It might be a CEC issue. Try switching the CEC control off on your Sky box. You'll just have to turn on the Sky box with the Sky remote.
Actual buttons on the TV unit itself seem to have gone out of fashion around 2012. I suspect the remote failing or being lost is the number 1 cause of TVs being binned now.
Nice one Allen, thanks for the useful tip with the board socket colours.

Bush TV's are absolute garbage. People are always returning them.

Sony or high end Panasonic.
Aa you say Allen changing over the board will be quicker and less expensive on labour for the customer.
Great repair,

My 43 ins LG is over 10 years old, with no problems.

Just wondering how would you rate sony tvs as i havent noticed you having to fix many of them. Thanks

The 99p ones with the sound of it

£1 land at least your not wastng much money if it goes wrong
Bush TV should have the buttons on the side of the TV for the different functions to select input volume etc etc
Actual buttons on the TV unit itself seem to have gone out of fashion around 2012. I suspect the remote failing or being lost is the number 1 cause of TVs being binned now.
Those were from a different OEM no longer used by Argos brands.
My bush TV went wrong it blew up so i will not a nother Bush
Nice work Allen as you say easier just to change the board 😊
